Chapter 130
Some things could not be explained logically. I assumed, since I had become the Guardian of Death Volcano, it would be embarrassing to have a weak and thin guardian, right? So, it must have done something to my body.
My question was... would it be permanent or for a while? Would it have a side effect?
Then, another thought invaded my mind, made me forget about the side effects and everything.
I could meet Jane now!
A smile lit my face instantly at that thought. Without thinking any further, I ran into the hospital straight to my room and fetched up the phone that my uncle left to me. My excitement surged up as I dialed on my uncle’s number. I gripped the phone hard and... crack!
What the!!
I was stunned and my grip loosened a bit unconsciously. I stared at the cracks on the phone in my hand.
Did I do that? Am I that strong?
.....
I gripped my phone even harder and the loud cracking sound traveled to my ears. Along with that, the phone in my hand was ... I couldn’t describe the damage I did.
My eyes widened to the point it instantly felt uncomfortable. I blinked to reduce the discomfort and stared at my hand again.
The phone was really broken!
How do I call Uncle Ben now? At that time, I cursed myself repeatedly for my stupidity. Somehow, in my mind, I could see Jane laughing at me for my foolishness.
As one of the brightest in campus, it hurt my pride for doing something so impulsive. Just because I was curious with how the phone got broken, and exerted too much force until I couldn’t use the phone for real. If only I had used my brain, I would have waited until I finished calling my uncle before I tried my new power.
Of course, I realized it was a side effect, or rather the bonus I got, after being the guardian of Death Volcano. But, how stupid I was to break the phone before I could even use it?
I wish I could smash myself so hard!
Just as I was still lamenting about it, the door was pushed open by Lily and Dr. Gwen who looked anxious and relief at the same time.
“You’re back! Where have you been?” Lilly was the first one to rush towards me while Dr. Gwen was standing in front of the door and heaving a breath of relief. From the look of it, they found out that I was not here and had been looking for me. But, I came here at dawn, right? How could they check on me so early in the morning? It’s not like they still needed to check on my drips at night. They didn’t check on me at night again after I had started my therapy, except when I pressed the button.
So, why were they here so early in the morning? How did they know I was not here?
“Emm, what’s wrong? Were you two looking for me?” I forgot about the broken phone for a while as I saw their faces.
“Of course! Where did you go? I was so scared when I couldn’t find you in your bed even after I checked on you three times!” Lilly was practically scolding me. She even lightly slapped my arm to express her agitation.
How would I know you would check on me?!
“Ah, I was in the toilet.” That excuse came out from my mouth even before I could think about it.
“I’ve checked the toilet twice and you’re not there.” Lily threw me a sharp gaze, as if she wanted to see how far I would lie to them.
“Wait!” I was about to reason out when Dr. Gwen stopped us. The old woman scrutinized me from top to toe while frowning. She stepped closer and grabbed my arms.
I was a bit startled, yes, but I did nothing and let the doctor to feel my muscles. She was groping me, feeling me here and there and I could feel my face heated up a bit.
“Doc -Doctor Gwen?” I called out to her.
The woman stopped groping me and straightened her back to look at me in my eyes. Her eyes were sharp, like she wanted to penetrate into my soul to find the answer she was looking for. I blinked my eyes repeatedly, not knowing what she was looking for even though I knew what she had in mind.
Since I didn’t know how to explain it to her, I would pretend like I knew nothing.
Dr. Gwen sighed after seconds of staring contest had passed. “Lie down. I need to check on your condition.” She said as she prepared her stethoscope.
I obediently laid down on my bed and let her do the check up. Confusion was still clear in Lily’s eyes for a second, but after she watched me carefully being examined, her eyes widened in shock.
“You! Where are the muscles coming from?!” She nearly shouted, but Dr. Gwen sharp gaze made her clammed her mouth up.
Again, since I didn’t know how to explain, I chose to be silent. I practically ignored what she asked. Thankfully, because Dr. Gwen was present in the room, Lily couldn’t ask anymore and only stared at me in curiosity while assisting Dr. Gwen.
After Dr. Gwen finished checking up on me, she smiled. “You can call your uncle. Your current condition is perfect for you to return. There will be no problem at all.”
Ah, right. I was about to call Uncle Ben. I took a glance at the broken phone near the bed and sighed. Sensing something was wrong, both women followed my gaze line and almost shocked when they saw the broken phone.
“Never mind. I’ll call your uncle for you. Lily, prepare the documents for his discharge.” Dr. Gwen turned around while fishing out her phone from her pocket. Lily was following behind her back obediently while still throwing me confused looks from time to time.
I had a hunch that Dr. Gwen knew something. She was not an ordinary doctor who only believed in science. She must know something about the other world. If not, how could I explain her easy acceptance of the weird things happened to me?
But, since she was not going to ask, I was not going to question her, too. For now, I needed to pack up and get ready to return home.
Feeling excited, I jumped from my bed and packed up my few clothes that Uncle Ben brought to me. The image of meeting Jane after not seeing her for months overflowed my mind and I couldn’t hide the stupid grin in my face.
Jane, I’m coming!
