Chapter 820 - Bizarre But Beautiful
Now that she was seeing the cute little creature laying in the arms of the young boy who was walking towards them, her eyes were glued to it.
The faint aura coming from the etcher had been too low for her to sense right away but when Taylor had opened the carriage doors a second time, she had finally recognized what her elder brother had hinted at yesterday during their trip home.
Taylor's feet came to a halt right before Yvonne and the beast in his arms yawned before raising its head to look at her.
The little girl was face-to-face with the grey cat whose eyes were golden, a bizarre but beautiful combination.
"Vonny, meet Celestial." She heard his introduction but did not raise her head, continuing to gaze into those sharp eyes that were looking back at her.
By now, Fryght and Demon had also arrived at the entrance after they had sensed the newcomer and the etcher he had brought along.
The wolfhound growled at the little cat as it was within his very nature to be averse to the feline that had invaded his territory.
However, one glance from Rutherford was enough to silence Fryght who took his seat next to the horse whose eyes were aimed at his master.
Unlike the pup, this horse was glaring daggers at the kitten who dared to stare down his master.
Unmindful of the jealous and protective thoughts in Demon's mind, Yvonne was busy assessing and admiring the little feline who had come here today.
"Hello, Celestial." She greeted the cat in Brother Taylor's arms but widened her eyes when she saw the cat baring its fangs towards her.
Just like when the etcher had displayed hostility towards Duchess Tanner upon first meeting her, the same had taken place now as well.
Witnessing the cat hiss at the little girl while flashing its sharp and scary teeth caused the rest to gasp and fret that she might get hurt.
Thankfully, Taylor was the first to react and he pulled Celestial away and even chided the beast before it could cause any harm.
"A wildcat," Yvonne muttered while listening to the young boy reprimanding the cat who now lowered its head as though it was asking for forgiveness from him.
Taylor stopped upon hearing her voice and nodded with a smile as she had guessed it right.
Celestial looked like a grey house kitten but he was a ferocious wildcat that was just fooling everyone with its adorable appearance.
While the beast had a history of expressing hostility at first, Taylor had seen it growing friendly soon after.
Therefore, he was sure that his little sister would also fall in love with the etcher once she spent some time with him.
Yvonne, on the other hand, had not minded the wildcat's behavior as even Demon was the same in the beginning.
All etchers were territorial, some more than the other, so she understood this beast's attitude and did not pay too much attention to it.
Instead of focusing on Celestial's scary teeth, her mind had just been comparing his aura with the one she had sensed on Iris, Princess Felicia's pet, the halfling.
The two were cats but the aura they let out was vastly different and the little girl had two possible explanations for this disparity.
The first was that Celestial was a wildcat which was different from Iris who appeared to be a house cat of the highest pedigree.
The other reason she could think of was that Taylor was holding an etcher in his arms which could possess and wield aura while Iris, a halfling, could not do the latter.
No matter which was the right answer, Yvonne was sure that Celestial was not easy to get closer to.
'Unless I want some teeth marks on my arms.' She shook her head and decided to keep her hands to herself.
Once again, she lamented her fate as all the cute etchers she had met until now wouldn't allow her to get closer to them.
'Not that my Demon is any less cute.' She harrumphed while praising her beloved beast even when he could hear none of what was going on through her mind.
While Yvonne had been lost in these thoughts, Taylor had long ended his lecture rebuking his beast and was now greeting the Earl and Countess, introducing them to this new member of his family.
Since he had arrived just after breakfast, the St. Claire couple asked him to come inside and the Countess instructed her maids to bring something that the cat would enjoy.
Yvonne smiled at Demon who had been witnessing everything in silence then turned to accompany the rest inside.
As the adults walked ahead, the three children with Jax were taking their time to follow them.
"So how did Brother Taylor find Celestial?" She questioned as this was the part she was most curious about.
However, before she could even gain any response, she felt a hand resting on her head, and soon the hairstyle Roselie had worked hard on this morning was ruined in no time.
"Big Brother!" Yvonne growled while leaning away from his hand but Howard only chuckled in satisfaction now that he had finally reclaimed the right to pat her once again.
Yesterday, she had left him alone and ignored him after stating that he could pat her once the interesting thing took place.
Therefore, as soon as he heard her curious query, he knew for sure that she found what had taken place earlier, interesting.
Not wasting another second, Howard, who had been walking right next to her, grasped this opportunity and patted her to his heart's content.
Though right now, that cheerful feeling had diminished and was continuing to dissipate as he noticed her glaring at him.
It looked like he had been a little too enthusiastic, causing her hair to now resemble a bird's nest, messy and tangle-up.
Taylor too glared at his best friend but his reason for doing so was not at all on the page as Yvonne's.
To him, she looked cute even when her hair was a mess but his anger was for a whole different reason.
'How dare he try to mess up Vonny's hair!? Without me!' He leered at the other boy while grumbling that he could not do the same.
After all, his etcher was still in his arms and he could not let Celestial down in this new environment.
Well, he could have handed the cat over to someone else and have joined Howard in making Yvonne's hair look even messier which would have caused her to look cuter than she was right now.
However, for that, the only other person here would have to obtain some deep tissue scars after being attacked by his little cat.
Since this was not possible right at this moment, all he could do was suffer in silence.
'For now!' He corrected his thoughts and had already made up his mind to find an opportunity to pat Yvonne's head just like Howard had done earlier.
Jax, the butler who was following them, felt a sudden chill run down his spine a few seconds ago but disappeared without a trace, leaving him confused at what could have caused it.
Amidst all the thoughts running through their minds, the little girl who stood in silence while staring at her elder brother who had gone overboard finally made a move.
"Big Brother is very enthusiastic, isn't he?" She smiled while tilting her head that led her tangled up hair to rustle and move along with her.
At that moment, Howard and Taylor as well as Jax felt a sense of danger looming over them as the smile was nowhere close to the genuine one they had seen numerous times in the past.
Howard gulped at this sight while the other boy, for once, was glad that he had exercised restraint and had not rushed ahead to pat her head as well.
'Though Vonny looks cute even when she's scary.' Taylor was soon busy appreciating this sinister smile that Yvonne had displayed.
This was enough to prove that her sworn brother could be dubbed a fanatic in the true sense.
