Chapter 330 - We Need To Talk
Chapter 330 - We Need To Talk
Under the heavy pressure of their burning gazes, it did not take long before the Butler folded.
They were noble ladies and the intensity of their gazes was enough to make the servants break out into a sweat.
The two maids were cowering under their Madam's stern eyes and the Butler straightened his back after coming to a conclusion on what needed to be done.
"Please forgive me." He muttered in a low voice following which he began walking away in a certain direction.
It took Raylene and Yvonne a moment to understand that he had apologized for disobeying them and was now leading the way to where the Earl was at present.
The mother and child glanced at each other and nodded before they began following him.
The two maids did not know what to do so they too walked behind the two ladies.
'Isn't that the…?' Yvonne's eyes widened in shock when she noticed the direction that Limo was leading them in.
Soon, the party of five came to a halt before a large door made of black wood.
'Ruthy is in the office?' Raylene wondered as she had been inside this room once before.
The sacredness of this room, she knew all too well therefore now she discerned why the Butler had asked them to return to their rooms.
On the other hand, Yvonne had been inside this room more times than her mother so she felt even more repulsed that her father had chosen this room to commit his dirty deed.
However, Raylene's mind had not gone in the same direction as her daughter's.
'He must be busy with his work.' She sighed that she had almost disturbed her hardworking husband when he was busy fulfilling his duties as the Fief Lord.
"We shall return for now." She whispered her new plan and turned around without hesitation.
Yvonne St. Claire, the five-year-old girl who was straining her ears to make out the sounds of soft moans or grunts coming from the inside of this room had to pause when she heard her mother's words.
Strengthening the grip she had on her mother's hand, she gestured that she was against this idea.
"I want to meet him…" She muttered and this time she changed her way of addressing him as she felt odd to call him 'Papa' again.
Butler Limo shook his head in silent disagreement, trying hard to indicate that this was a bad idea.
However, the little girl who had discerned his actions chose to ignore them and was now hell-bent on meeting her father right this instant.
Raylene did not know why her daughter was being stubborn and while she was thinking of how she could explain that her father was busy with work right now, her child did something unexpected.
Her movements were so quick that the Countess and the servants' eyes widened as they could only watch the child's actions taking place right before them.
*Knock knock*
The little girl's tiny fist had rapped on the door of her father's office in a hasty manner.
This impolite action of hers garnered a glare from her mother yet she was unaffected by it.
'I need to know for sure!' Yvonne declared as she stood facing the door.
It only took a few seconds before they could hear the reply coming from within.
"Did I not ask you to leave me alone!?" The Earl's bellowing roar echoed in the silent hallway, surprising everyone present there.
Yvonne flinched when his angry voice emanated through the door as she withdrew her hand.
She had never witnessed him raising his voice to this level which made her both perplexed and curious as to why he was this vexed.
There was anger and frustration clear in his tone, making her want to analyze and get to the bottom of the situation.
'I do not hear the sound of any woman inside…' She inferred after her earlier inspection.
Therefore, she was sure that whatever happened had already come to an end.
So now the question that arises was why did he not come out to greet them?
Why was he so agitated when someone knocked on his door?
'Is he guilty and ashamed?' She speculated the various causes for him to behave in this manner.
"Ruthy, is everything alright?" Raylene spoke up when she finally came back to her senses.
Her husband was one who lacked patience and his temper sometimes raged but she had never seen him lash out in such a way, especially when he was at home.
The sound of a chair being dragged was heard following which were the heavy footsteps that could only belong to the tall muscular Earl of this household.
Yvonne looked up when the door was opened from the inside and took a step behind.
'He looks…' She gulped and hid her tiny body behind her mother's gown.
The Butler along with the maids bowed their heads and took a step away from the intense pressure that they were hit with.
'He looks mad.' The little girl clenched the cloth of her mother's gown and buried her face in it.
She had faced Captain Desmo in numerous sparring matches but she had never felt this pressure from him.
The scary aura that the man who had appeared was emitting was something that made her tremble.
However, she began to regain her composure when she felt her mother's calming touch on her head.
Having mustered her courage she glanced up at the face of the man who appeared to be in an awful mood.
With her head raised, she could make out the icy look on her father's face with his eyes fixed on the Butler.
He had not even glanced at the mother and daughter pair for a single second which was bringing up doubts in the little girl's mind as she stole secret glimpses at him.
The Yvonne St. Claire, who had stood tall even when her scary Grandpa Leo would glower and glare at her, was now seeking refuge behind her mother's dress.
This was shocking for her and she realized that her father was truly mad but she could not decipher who was at the receiving end of this wrath.
"Ruthy, stop scaring Vonny!"
In the deathly silence that pervaded the hallway, the Countess's reprimanding words were the only sounds heard.
The ominous aura surrounding the Earl diminished by a small percentage but it persisted, resulting in another bout of silence following those words.
The surprise on the child's face was noticeable as she stopped trying to watch her father's expressions and had now turned her sights towards her mother.
There was awe and bewilderment in Yvonne's eyes as she observed the calm face of her mother who did not appear to be affected by the Earl's scary presence.
'When did she become this brave?' She was baffled at this unexpected development.
The Earl who had been silent ever since he had opened the doors of his office, finally turned his gaze towards his wife.
"We need to talk." He uttered in a stern and stoic tone causing the child to flinch.
Raylene nodded her head, once again displaying her calm demeanor as she glanced down at the little girl who held her dress tighter than before.
'What does he want to talk about?' Yvonne's eyes exhibited her apprehension with this situation.
The first sentence that her father had spoken held words that were used to initiate a break up back in her previous world.
This made her further worried about the events that might have taken place to bring this topic up between her parents.
"Stay here, Vonny. Mama and Papa will be right back." Raylene, who was unaware of the troubling thoughts in her child's head, smiled as she extricated herself from the little girl's grip.
Yvonne could only watch with her wide eyes blinking in confusion as the two entered the room before the door was once again shut.
With her parents disappearing into the room, the pressure that had enveloped the others present outside had finally been lifted.
The maids almost collapsed if it wasn't that they were supporting each other's weights.
The Butler patted his chest that he wasn't punished right away for leading the Madam and Young Miss here when he was given strict orders not to do so.
However, he had taken a sigh of relief too soon as there was someone else who was now glaring at him.
"Tell me what happened!" A mellow voice spat out those words with hostility and urgency laced in it.
The Young Miss' childish face was now seething with anger as she fixed her narrowed eyes at the Butler of the Mansion, waiting to hear his explanation for what had taken place during the day.
