Chapter 142 - Blaming Each Other
The atmosphere outside the infirmary room was so tense that it was almost suffocating. It was getting difficult to breathe as with each passing second there was still no news from inside.
Once Aria saw Zhenyi's condition she dialed her missing brother and as usual, he didn't pick up when Sam refused to take her calls, she had no other option than to call her parents. They needed to be here for Uncle Chen.
Although her parents were angry and upset with her if she didn't inform them of Zhenyi's condition right this second then she did not doubt that this time her mother would obviously disown her.
Her mother, Ming Jia was the sworn sister and best friend of Zhenyi's mother and also happened to be Zhenyi and Ryuu's godmother. She was the only motherly figure in Zhenyi's life while growing up.
Ming Jia arrived first, streaking forward to sit on the chair with Aria who started crying seeing her mom, she wrapped Aria in her arms. She clutched her for dear life, knowing she needed to pull herself together because she definitely didn't have the right to freak out any more than Zhenyi's father and husband had. But she couldn't seem to help herself. She was barely holding it together and after embracing her mother she lost control of her emotions.
She had grown up surrounded by violence but still, she was not used to it. Though she loved everyone in Xin family fiercely, she didn't approve of their way of lifestyle. It was bloody and chaotic.
Only a minute later, Alex Qin showed up, he patted Xin Yichen and then Long Jie and then gave a smile to his daughter. His eyes fell on Cao Feng, Zhenyi's assistant who looked weak and sick and raised his brows.
Feeling Alex Qin's eyes on him, Cao Feng bowed weakly. "Mr. Qin."
"How are you, Mr. Cao?" Alex Qin asked, suppressing the doubts inside his heart.
"Well, I'm good. How are you, Sir?" Cao Feng asked while giving him a pained smile.
"I'm certainly in good health but you don't appear to be the same," said Alex Qin, inquisitiveness shining in his aged eyes.
"I've been in an accident but I'm fine now," answered Cao Feng, and just like this he knew Alex Qin got the information that he wanted to.
Alex nodded.
"Did you met Sam?" He asked in a low voice as he saw his wife sitting beside Xin Yichen now.
"He is fine now," came the answer and Alex sighed in relief.
He was aware that his son was up to no good especially when Zhenyi and Sam were together. The boy dared not to step a foot in China before and since Zhenyi came here, he had not left the country. But what worse was that he had not come to show his face to his parents since he went missing at his best friend's wedding which was undigestable to him.
"How is Zhenyi?" asked Ming Jia as she looked at Xin Yichen.
Xin Yichen closed his eyes, took a deep breath and l then look at Long Jie who was leaning against the wall and his gaze still on the closed door, before replying to Ming Jia's question. The scene inside where he clutched Zhenyi to his chest was still fresh in his mind.
"The doctors won't tell anything for now. Earlier, she almost lost the pulse but in the end moment, they were able to detect it back. She has lost too much blood."
"She will be fine," Ming Jia whispered to him.
"She has to be. Otherwise, I don't know how to survive. I already lost my wife and I don't think I'll be able to lose my daughter again," said Xin Yichen in a grave voice.
"You won't lose her, Brother Yichen. Our Zhenyi is strong. Stronger than you think. She always wins. You got her back before when you never thought you could ever get her. Don't forget that last time you lost all the hopes of finding your daughter ever again but in the end, you did. She is too stubborn to leave you alone. And now that she has got a husband, she has more than one reason to come back to us."
"And if she did, I'd always be thankful for him," Xin Yichen answered honestly.
"I had never thought I'd say this but this man is really good for our Zhenyi. He definitely inherited the best Long genes. "
Xin Yichen chuckled bitterly understanding the hidden meaning in Ming Jia's voice. " That I've no doubt of."
"Of course, my sister has a good eye," Ming Jia joked trying to lighten the tensed environment but only if it was so easy.
If his wife was alive, she would have set the world on fire for hurting her daughter by now. Zhenyi might have taken her father's looks but she was her mother's daughter thorough and thorough.
"Who was behind the attack?" The question was asked by Alex Qin. He had heard that Zhenyi had a beef with a businessman and things between them had been heated up these days but was he was mighty enough to plan a bomb attack against Zhenyi? She was not only Xin Yichen's daughter but also Long Jie's wife.
Hearing Alex Qin's question, Long Jie along with others turned to him. Since Zhenyi had been inside no one thought about the one behind the attack. Though Long Jie's blood was boiling, all he could think was to tear apart the man who hurt his wife but at the same time, he didn't want to leave her alone. What if she needed him again and he was not here?
"The investigation is going on. We will have answers by the end of the day," the answer came from Cao Feng who despite the fact that he was unhealthy was working with Ryuu's and Long Jie's team to get the evidence. No one messes with Xins and Longs and returned unscathed.
They could be blinded by the grief for a moment, but Ryuu never forgot the ones who dared to lay their evil eyes on his family. Moreover, hurt his sister? No way, he would collect the due payments and that too soon and certainly in his own way.
Alex pointed his fingers at Long Jie and said," You were aware that Zhenyi was dealing with that businessman alone yet you let her. As a husband wasn't it your duty to watch out for your wife? Don't you think you failed her as a husband? This accident could have been prevented if you have supported and assisted your wife."
Alex Qin had no prejudice against Long Jie but he couldn't ignore the fact that she was battling inside for her life and her husband had not done anything for her. Zhenyi meant to him as much as Aria did.
"Alex--" Ming Jia tried to speak but was cut off by her husband. Usually, he was the cool one between the two but today he was beyond furious and was not even listening to his wife.
"No, Jia. You know what I'm talking about is absolutely right. This accident could have been prevented."
Long Jie didn't say anything. It had indeed been his fault. If he had taken her with him, the accident would have been avoided. Thought the bomb blast could not be stopped but at least she would have been alright and with him. They were right to blame him as her husband, it was indeed his responsibility to protect her from every danger and he clearly failed. He was a failure as a husband. And no matter how much he apologized, it would not lessen his mistake.
"Stop blaming one another. You are talking about Zhenyi here and do you think he can change her mind once she set it on something? She is too stubborn for that and she has always been reckless with her life," said Xin Yichen.
Then Xin Yichen came towards him and gripped his shoulders and said, "Don't listen to them. You are not at fault and you should know it. And stop being hard on yourself."
Long Jie blinked at him, sure he had misheard him because if anyone would agree that he was to blame for all this, it would be Xin Yichen.
After all, he had almost killed his daughter.
Long Jie couldn't help but said," It was my fault too."
Xin Yichen sighed. Was he the same arrogant man who he met a month ago? If he had been the same Long Jie from before he would never have admitted it. Now here he was, blaming himself for something he had no part in.
Sigh. Love changes everyone. It wrecks your heart, brain, lungs kidneys, etc...
