Chapter 165 - 165: 165: If he hadn’t done it, Rong Yan wouldn ‘t have been exposed
Old Madam Jiang was speaking. Her complexion now darkened as she said, “That wasn’t impulsiveness, it’s just that she doesn’t consider you her sister or this place her home! With Mrs. Li as her powerful backer, she probably doesn’t even remember her own surname!”
The last time she had painstakingly found an opportunity to meet Mrs. Li, the moment she uttered a few critical words of Rong Yan, Mrs. Li’s demeanor immediately grew cold, dismissing her shortly thereafter. It left her, Rong Yan’s own mother, looking like the villain. It must have been that Rong Yan said something to Mrs. Li to influence her view; otherwise, she could not fathom why Mrs. Li with her status wouldn’t give her face.
Recalling her humiliating experience, Jiang Meiqi’s face became increasingly unpleasant. Casting an unsatisfied glance at the man who had remained noncommittal throughout, she said, “Just look at what she’s doing now, how she doesn’t pay any regard to the family. She does whatever she wants without sparing a thought for the family’s reputation!”
Ronc Nanfeng felt a headache coming on with their incessant arguing. He
glared at Jiang Meiqi irritably and said bluntly, “Enough, every time something happens you all try to pin it on Rong Yan. Could we have ended up here if you all hadn’t been partial?”
“How have I been partial?” Jiang Meiqi retorted displeasedly, “You see what kind of person Weiwei is and what she’s like — can’t you see the difference? I would love to treat her well, but she regards me as a fierce beast. How can I do good by her? It’s clearly her issue, yet in the end, you lay the blame on me!”
Rong Nanfeng had no desire to argue and simply said coldly, “Rong Yan did go too far this time, but it’s not entirely her fault. After all, that video is real, and if Mufeng hadn’t done those things, Rong Yan wouldn’t have any way to deal with him.”
“If Mufeng hadn’t done those things, Rong Yan wouldn’t have any way to deal with him…” His offhand remark left Weiwei’s face next to him turning blue!
Jiang Meiqi noticed the change in Rong Weiwei’s complexion and was just about to stand up for her.
Suddenly, they heard the sound of a car horn outside.
Rong Nanfeng glanced over the three of them and stood up first, cautioning, “Today I asked Rong Yan to come back because I want to have a serious talk with her. You all had better not stir up any more trouble, otherwise, I won’t deal with the mess you cause!”
Anger twisted Jiang Meiqi’s nose, and thinking of the favor she had finally managed to ask of Rong Nanfeng, she clenched her teeth and kept a sullen face, remaining silent.
When Rong Yan entered, the atmosphere in the villa was unexpectedly ‘harmonious’. The servants busied themselves setting up the dinner, attended by Old Madame Jiang and Rong Weiwei. Old Madam snorted coldly at the sight of her and turned her face away. Rong Weiwei, a bit more sociable, managed a faint smile toward her as if nothing had happened despite having been outmaneuvered.
As for Jiang Meiqi…
Just like when Rong Yan was a child, she was indifferent, treating her as though she were a disposable member of the family. Poised elegantly in her own seat, she neither welcomed her daughter nor shooed her away upon her arrival.
Rong Nanfeng had not seen his daughter in five years, and his gaze softened slightly at the sight of Rong Yan. He patted her shoulder and said, “You’re back? Come, sit. I asked Nanny Wang to cook a few dishes you love, sit down and have dinner first.
Rong Yan eyed the people seated around the dining table and felt no appetite at all.
Rong Nanfeng had already pulled out a chair for her, beckoning with an apparently warm gesture, “Come over here, sit beside Dad..”
