Chapter 638: Ian to the rescue - Part 4
Although it was not the first time Maggie had sat inside a chopper, her actions were still sloppy for she was still in a daze. Ian was doing way more than she had expected and she had no idea what was happening with her. A few moments ago, she was still standing and staring at the gigantic beast that had descended on its designated spot and the next instant, she was sitting beside the pilot while Ian made sure she was securely trapped before he too joined her.Maggie felt like she was living a dream. After Ian shut the chopper door, the pilot spoke to them but none of the words registered in her mind.
"We will be taking off in three." Maggie heard the blades starting to rotate faster. "Two." The pilot glanced at the two people beside him. "One." And the chopper left the ground.
At first, Maggie felt her heart drop due to the sudden uplift. But soon she calmed down and looked at the sight in front of her. The chopper rose to the sky and flew like a magnificent bird. From where she was, she could see the entire city sparkling, the bright lights creating a sea of fireflies on the ground. The view was fully mesmerizing.
But Maggie was in no mood to enjoy it. All her mind and thoughts were filled with Ryder and her friends and until she made sure that they were fine and out of danger, she could not sit still.
Ian noticed her anxiousness. But this time, he did not speak a word, allowing the lady to drown in her thoughts.
The pilot was efficient. In just ten minutes, they had reached the outskirts of the city and barely had a few minutes passed when the man was looking for a spot to descend.
Ian frowned when he saw the scene below him. Even though they were quite a distance away from the port, from where he was, he could clearly see the condition of the place. Almost the entire port had been wrecked and he could still see the dust particles dancing in the air. Fortunately for them, the electricity in the port had not been cut off and they could still make out the situation.
Maggie felt her heart combust in worry on seeing the disastrous situation and she fidgeted in her seat. She did not stop until Ian held her hand to assure her.
"We are here, Maggie. We will take care of it." He spoke to her gently as though he was coaxing a kid and even though the lady was still nervous, she relaxed a little.
The pilot spoke a few words, which again bounced over Maggie's head before the chopper descended. The moment Maggie's feet touched the ground, she ran in the direction of the port, not caring about anything else, while Ian followed behind her as he carried the medical kit he had brought with him.
The situation was a mess. They did not know from where to start the moment they reached the port.
"Doctor Davis, can you hear me?" Ian heard his man speak on the earpiece and he looked at the situation in front of him.
"Have you reached?" Ian queried, his frown deepening. The condition was grave, more terrifying than he had thought. He had to start quickly if he wished to save as many people as possible.
"Yes, Doctor. We have." The man spoke, waiting for Ian to give him his next orders.
"Prepare for emergency. We have a lot of casualties here. Divide into two groups. All the people who are skilled in medicine form two groups. One group will administer the first aid send them to the second group." He barked out a few orders and once he was done, he pulled out his gloves.
It was now time to take care of the problem here. He had no idea how many people were there. So, he had prepared abundantly. Now, all that remained was for him to save them, if not all but at least the people from the Intelligence.
"Maggie." Ian turned serious, now donning on his work mode. "I need you to stay with me. Our men are here and they will help us with the evacuation." He mumbled and Maggie nodded at him absent-mindedly. Her eyes were searching for her friends, especially Ryder. But the port was a mess and she could not find the man she was looking for.
"Let us start, Maggie. We will find them sooner or later." Ian did not allow Maggie to lose to her worry and pulled her with him inside the port.
However, before he could go any further, the woman beside him shouted in anguish, startling him completely.
"Ryder," Maggie screamed and pulled out her hand from Ian's clutches before she ran towards the man, who seemed to be leaning against the wall. She ran as fast her legs could and almost crashed into him when she squatted beside him.
"Ryder." She cried and patted the man's cheeks lightly. He seemed to be sleeping. But the moment, he heard the familiar voice that had been etched in his heart and mind, Ryder's eyes fluttered open.
Maggie was sitting in front of him as she stared back at him in worry. Ryder smiled at her, thinking it to be a dream and he raised his hand to touch. "Maggie, am I dreaming about you again?" He mumbled but it was loud enough for Maggie to hear and she did not know if she should laugh or cry.
"Ryder, I am here. I am right here." She held his hand and leaned closer to the man who still seemed to be in a trance. "You are not dreaming."
Ryder kept smiling. But the moment his hand touched her cheek, he jolted awake at the feel of her soft skin under his rough palm.
"Are you really here?" Ryder queried, too stunned to speak anything more and Maggie nodded at him.
"Yes, I am here. Ian brought me here. Are you hurt anywhere. Tell me." Maggie looked at the man carefully in worry. "Ian is here. He will take care of you."
As if on cue, the man Maggie was speaking about came to them and he squatted behind Maggie.
"Ryder, are you hurt anywhere?"
Ryder was still in a daze. But he still pointed at his leg and Ian got to work immediately while Maggie scooted away to make place for Ian.
Ian pushed the man's trousers up and the moment Maggie saw the condition Ryder's right leg was in, she let out a cry. His entire right leg was wounded and blood was dripping down. It was a ghastly sight to see. His leg looked utterly broken and Maggie felt her heart-wrenching in anguish thinking how painful it was. Unknowingly, her tears ran down again and Ryder just smiled at her, not knowing how else to console her.
Even Ian was shocked to see how severe the man's wounds were. He did not even have to check for he could already make out that Ryder had fractured his leg and considering how severe the condition was, he had an inkling that they had to amputate his leg.
