Chapter 637: Ian to the rescue - Part 3
"Ian, where are we going?" Maggie inquired as they took the elevator, instead of leaving the mansion. She could not comprehend what was happening and why they were taking the elevator. Where would the elevator even take them to?Maggie had been staying in Noah's mansion for quite some time. However, never had she explored the place completely. Firstly, it was not her place to explore and moreover, she was not interested in scouring the place when she had other matters to attend to. Although she had walked by the elevator many times, never had she used it nor had she seen any use the elevator. So, she was shocked when Ian led her to the elevator.
"You will find out Maggie. Let me handle this call first." Ian pointed at his phone that had started ringing all of a sudden and Maggie stopped questioning him. She was yet to find out what his plan was and what he was trying to do.
"Yes. Get the men ready. I need medicines and gauze and bandages. Get everything in the list I have sent you." Ian muttered a series of orders while Maggie just looked on, touched by the man's efforts to help her.
Ian was not obligated to help her or anyone from her team. The officers from the Intelligence were capable of handling the matter themselves with assistance from the backup they had called for. But the problem was the port was far away from the city and it would take a lot of time for help to arrive. Maggie could not convey her gratitude for all that Ian was doing to her. They had only known each other for a few days and had become friends, or at least that was what she thought them to be, recently. Yet, he was doing more than anyone had ever done to her in her life.
"We will reach the port in twenty minutes. Don't worry." Ian assured a tensed Maggie. Even though he was on the phone, he could still sense her trembling in anxiousness. He could more or less understand her concerns for he too had gone through the same when his friends had been in danger.
To Ian, his friends mattered the most for they were all he had. And considering how neither Maggie nor Joshua had brought up about her family, he understood that she too did not have any family. Her concerns for her friends were justified and even more so when he discerned who she cared about the most in the group.
Ian had not missed how Maggie's expression had changed when she had met Ryder at the Intelligence office earlier in the day. Her eyes had sparked and even though it was not noticeable, her lips had arched up ever so slightly.
Ian was smart and even though he was yet to experience the feeling of falling in love, he had seen how the people around him behaved the moment they fell in love. He was surrounded by couples and he could not avoid them even if they wanted to. So, he more or less knew what was happening between Ryder and Maggie.
Maggie just nodded at him absent-mindedly. Unless she saw her friends safe and sound, no words of assurance worked on her. And Ian too did not speak anymore, giving her some time and space to sort out her thoughts.
The elevator yawned and Maggie came out of her daze when she felt Ian nudging her softly.
"Let's go, Maggie." With a nod, the man walked in the front while Maggie followed just a step behind him. She had never been on this floor before. So, she had no idea what to expect here. At first, it looked like a normal room. But before she could take a good look, they reached the only door in the room and Ian opened it deftly. And what Maggie saw made her jaw drop in surprise.
'Heck, why did I not know that there was a helipad here?' She thought and looked around her in amazement. They were now at the top of the mansion and considering how wide the open space was, at least three choppers would be fit in easily at one time.
Cold wind smacked her face every now and then and she pulled onto her jacket, thanking Ian for reminding her to carry a jacket with her. It was too damn cold at the top.
Ian did not even have to explain what was happening. Maggie understood at once what the man had planned and once again, she was touched by his help. Ian was doing all he could to help her and her friends and just this thought alone made her tear up.
"Our chopper will be here in two minutes. Be prepared." Barely had Ian finished speaking when they heard the sound of a chopper. It roared in the silent night, the huge blades tearing through the night sky and Maggie's eyes shot to the sky at once. She was now utterly surprised to find the chopper here this quickly.
'How long has it been since I got a call from Ryder?' She wondered. In just fifteen minutes or so, Ian had prepared for their departure with ease. Not only had he got ready to leave with her, he had even prepared for a chopper to escort them to the place of disaster. But what shocked her the most was that the chopper had arrived here quickly, in just ten minutes after getting orders from Ian.
'Where was the chopper all this time? Was it here in the mansion?' She wondered but did not dare ask her question out loud.
"You guessed it right. You have not explored Noah's mansion completely. So, you do not know a lot of things." Ian replied to her vaguely and Maggie just nodded at him blankly, her eyes not moving away from the magnificent beast that was slowly descending onto the helipad. Her ponytail swayed vigorously the moment the chopper reached its designated spot and she even had to squint her eyes for a moment.
Ian waited until the chopper had landed successfully before he nodded at Maggie. "Let's go, Maggie. Let's go save your friends."
