Chapter 184 - The Rough Sea

When Drannor and America woke up, Zaos was already on the deck with his books and notes in his hands. It seems he was finally back to his research mode. While that was a bit disappointing, they couldn\'t help but wonder how he could study in such a place with so much wind and while the waves were moving the boat from side to side.

"Good morning," Zaos said. "It seems the ship isn\'t doing you any good, you two look like someone who slept under a rock."

"Well, I am already used to that kind of feeling thanks to our time in the North," Drannor said.

Ameria didn\'t look as messy as Drannor, but she looked like that because her maids helped her to fix her bed hair and everything else. Still, she looked pretty grumpy since she wasn\'t a morning person and the ship\'s motion only made things worse.

"How can you be fine in a ship like this?" Ameria asked.

"The captain said it is a matter of constitution," Zaos said. "Luck also plays an important factor in boats, if one will get sea sick or not. Anyway, he says that even some sailors had a hard time when they were young, you just have to get used to it."

While he replied while he was writing something, Zaos wasn\'t that grumpy as before. His mood improved, and thanks to that, Drannor and Ameria felt a little better as well. Since they didn\'t have anything better to do, and looking at the ocean while the ship was moving would only make them feel sick faster, they decided to learn the spells themselves and meditate. That should help them a little… they tried, but they will have a long way ahead of them.

Since his mind was more relaxed, Zaos managed to do quite a lot of work in just a few days. He even managed to learn a new spell called Light in the Dark. That spell enchanted his eyes and made him able to see more clearly in the dark… It was a support spell that fit in some sense the healing section, but it wasn\'t what he wanted.

On the third day of the trip, they finally reached the storm that delayed the ship\'s arrival. While she was mostly fine, even captain Distri couldn\'t help but frown while looking at it. It seemed that the storm was heading toward Vezar, so they will have to endure it for longer than before.

"Brace yourselves, the waves are going to be quite a pain in the ass for a while," Distri said.

"Just my luck," Zaos said and then sighed.

"We shouldn\'t get on the way of the captain and his crew," Ameria said. "Let\'s head to the cabins and kill time there."

"I am not sure that it is a good idea to put so many men and women in the same room in a situation like this," Erean said. "Besides, there is no telling for how long we will have to endure this storm. Not to mention, we don\'t want to cause trouble."

"Yeah, it would be a real pain if you guys were to puke on us," Zaos said.

Erean would be lying if he said he hadn\'t considered that, but he decided to keep that aside for argument\'s sake. Regardless, Ameria insisted, but at least she realized that it would be a good idea to separate men from women. But there was a problem. There were two times more men and they took even more space since all the twelve were muscle heads who felt the need to have their armor equipped at every single time.

While the ship was moving from one side to another and apparently almost turned upside down sometimes, Zaos continued his research. Still, it was pretty hard to concentrate when the armors were touching each other and that never-ending clang sound of metal colliding was too annoying.

Zaos tried to keep his cool at all times, but even he couldn\'t help but worry when he didn\'t see the sun and the blue sky for five whole days. He looked at Erean, wondering if that kind of situation was normal in the ocean, but the veteran soldier only shrugged at him. Although he was also trying to look composed in front of his men, Zaos could see him gulping now and then, every time the ship looked like it was about to sink.

"The Vezar sailors more than deserve my respect… how can they move in a ship during a storm like this and not fall to the ocean?" Drannor asked.

"Well, even they are careful in situations like this," Erean said. "They tie themselves to some parts of the ships if they have to work outside, in order not to fall. A man can fight against nature as much as he wants, but in the end, we can never win a battle of endurance that lasts for several days."

On the sixth day, the ship began to move less than usual, and then on the afternoon of that same day, Zaos noticed that the sound of the rain finally disappeared. Everyone went to see how things were on the deck, and while the waves were a bit higher, they could see the storm getting behind them. It was kind of scary to see so many lightning bolts in the distance.

"Sorry for the difficult trip, lads and gals," Distri said. "We had to head straight to the storm, otherwise, we wouldn\'t arrive at the party on time."

"We are still on course and we still will arrive on time?" Erean asked. "You must be a very famous captain."

"Hahaha, my best days as a captain are long gone," Distri laughed while holding his stomach. "The rest of the trip should be more comfortable, and I assume that we will be able to show you the best weather that our lands could have."

Zaos didn\'t know many Vezarrnians, but if they were at least half of how good-humored Distri was, he could tell why Sairus kingdom and Vezar never had problems with each other in the last decades. While they belong to different places, they still were human beings, and they could be allies, if not friends.
