Chapter 185 - 185 Ch. 185 Andrew’s Real Feelings
Richard and Raymond joined them while their wives would catch up after putting their two children to bed. On the other hand, Quinn and Andrew did not come on the grounds that Quinn was too tired, so she decided to rest for a while, while Andrew used the excuse of work.
Alas, three Calvin siblings wished to talk with Andrew for different reasons. The twins felt comfortable and wanted to discuss many things with Andrew, while Harmonie… had missed him for a long time and wanted to spend as much time as possible with her childhood sweetheart before they had to split again.
Since Andrew wasn’t coming to the lounge, Harmonie decided to withdraw and walked to the balcony of the second floor . The house had three sizable balconies―the first and second were on the second floor―one was in the east wing, the other was in the north, and the last was on the third floor facing the courtyard behind.
Harmonie deliberately chose the balcony on the east wing because this balcony was right next to Andrew’s room. Even though she wouldn’t be able to meet that man, she at least wanted to be next to him. She never expected the person she yearned for to be standing at the end of the balcony while looking at the glittering stars.
Harmonie recalled Andrew had something to work on, but why was that man standing on the balcony―doing nothing? Is he purposely lying to avoid her?
Harmonie was used to being rejected, and she was so used to listening to Andrew telling her to fall in love with someone else. Thus, she no longer worried that she would be chased away so many times and walked over to the man.
“I thought you were busy. My brothers were looking for you earlier, but who would have thought you were here instead.” Harmonie said it in a cheerful tone as if nothing had happened between them.
Even though Andrew couldn’t see her as anything more than a little sister, Harmonie would rather him act the way he always does than avoid her.
.....
“If I were to join them, I wouldn’t be able to see you like this.”
Harmonie didn’t expect that kind of answer. “Rather than to see me, it seems you have something on your mind.”
Andrew chuckled in amusement at the accurate guess. “Something like that. Why did you break up?”
“I already answered it.”
“Moni,”
“Andrew, I know what you want to say. Don’t worry. I’m not Quinn, who forces her way to get the man she wants. I never forced you, nor did I want to pressure you. If you want me to be your sister, I will be. But… don’t kick me out. I can only see you like this when my family comes to stay here.”
“…”
“Never mind that. How about you? Aren’t you getting married? If you were already married to someone else, I could get rid of my feelings more easily.”
Andrew smiled wryly at that. “I decided not to marry.”
“Why?”
“Because I have to take care of Quinn. Seeing her ill temperament, I doubt any man would be willing to marry her.”
Harmonie’s brow furrowed at that. “You dote on her too much. Uncle Leo also spoiled his wife too much.”
“What’s wrong with my father loving my mother? I also really love my mother and sister. Likewise, your father towards your mother.”
“I know. But…” Harmonie didn’t continue her words when an unexpected idea occurred in her head. “If I were willing to help you look after Quinn and Aunt Maddie, would you accept me?”
Andrew looked surprised to hear that. He knew Harmonie didn’t like his mother and sister―Maddeline always compared Harmonie to Quinn, making Quinn prouder and arrogant. Furthermore, Quinn snatches toys, dolls, and Harmonie’s beloved brothers. Even if Andrew reciprocated Harmonie’s feelings, he didn’t wish the girl who would become his wife to suffer from the unfair treatment of his mother and sister.
Not only Harmonie but any girl who would become his wife would not be able to live in peace if Madie and Quinn constantly taunted his wife at every opportunity.
On the contrary, Harmonie believed that Andrew rejected her because she didn’t like the man’s mother and sister. Andrew might let her win over his heart if she opened up and tried to value Maddie and Quinn.
“What do you think, Andrew?”
Andrew shook his head without dissipating his soft smile. “Moni. You are a good girl and deserve a man who loves you sincerely. That person is not me, and I can never be that person. I love you very much, but my affection is only… limited to a brother who loves his sister. I can’t accept your feelings.”
“I know. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have told me to accept my fiancé.” Harmonie straightened her body again, facing the yard while her eyes looked up at the sky.
She walked forward with intertwined hands on her back―only her slender torso was visible to Andrew. Harmonie was a mischievous, cheerful girl whose ideas had always been filled with pranks since childhood. She never felt lonely and always looked cheerful wherever she was.
The girl laughed out loud when the people around her were happy and unhappy when the people she loved experienced misfortune.
But now… the girl’s back looked lonely, as if she didn’t have anyone on her side.
Is it my fault? Andrew kept pondering over the same question. He couldn’t help but recall the warning note from a man.
‘Do not come closer to Harmonie and never show your feelings for her if you don’t want me to destroy your family stock.’
If Andrew hadn’t received the threat, he wouldn’t have rejected Harmonie a long time ago. He didn’t have to dodge and pretend he didn’t know how the girl felt for him.
If not for that threat, Andrew would have told the whole world that the girl he wanted the most was Harmonie Calvin.
