Chapter 122 - 122 Ch. 122 Quinn’s Threat
“Xia Xia, teach me the secret codes that Lori learned.”
“Which code?”
“I wanted to tell her not to give the impression that I am her dad and that she will not call you mom while we are at my cousin’s house.”
Anxia was astonished by her husband’s request, but she did as he asked. Anxia taught her husband hand movements that Lori understood so that later when they met, Lori would not show Quinn that Richard and Anxia were her parents.
No wonder Anxia didn’t mind being looked down on as long as her daughter was safe. That was all that mattered to her right now.
After waiting a few minutes, Richard appeared with Lori in his arms.
Like any good child, Lori wrapped her arms around Richard’s neck and pressed her cheek against Richard’s.
“Lori, let’s see who’s here?” Quinn deliberately asked little Lori while aiming at Anxia.
.....
Lori glanced at Anxia while blinking a few times. Then she tilted her head cutely as if she was confused about why the lady wanted her to meet a stranger.
“I brought her to pick you up. Aren’t you happy?”
Instead of answering, Lori hid her face in Richard’s neck as if she didn’t want to see Anxia.
Her unexpected reaction caused a shock to Quinn’s heart. She did disbelieve that this little girl was Anxia’s daughter. But the fact that Richard brought the maid made Quinn suspect that the little one had a connection with the maid.
“Do you want to meet your mom?” Lori nodded at Richard’s question. “Then let’s go.”
“Wait!” called Quinn a little bit late, for she still digested the situation.
Richard didn’t stop his steps and continued walking towards the outside, but Quinn’s following sentence managed to make him stop in place. “If you walk away now, it will be too late to save your beloved baby.”
Richard groaned at the threat. If only he weren’t careless, he would never let anyone take his little angel, let alone harm her. Not to mention, Quinn had already discovered that Lori was his daughter. It didn’t matter how significantly Quinn adored Lori. As long as the girl was Richard’s baby with another woman, the lady would have the heart to hurt Lori.
Richard couldn’t help but sneak a glance at his wife without Quinn noticing. Anxia’s expression was flat and unchanged, but he knew Anxia was furious to the point she could kill anyone close to her.
“What are you talking about? I have no daughter.” Richard sighed helplessly. He found no injury to his baby girl, but he couldn’t underestimate the lady’s threat. When Quinn wanted something, she would resort to anything to get what she wanted.
“You think I’m a fool? When I came to Hallstatt last week, I secretly took Lori’s hair to match your DNA. Richie, I know she is your biological child.”
Richard’s jaw tightened at this. He turned around to look at Quinn’s eyes while patting Lori’s back gently. Now the lady knew their relationship; there was no point hiding further.
“So?” as if her threat didn’t affect him, Richard asked in a flat tone.
“At first, I thought this lowly maid was her mother, which I know that would be the craziest thing in the world. I know your type is not this uninviting girl. Her beauty is below standard, and not to mention, she doesn’t look like an educated girl.”
Anxia raised an eyebrow, hearing several mocking statements toward her. Did the lady not see her? Anxia felt she was invisible at this moment but gave no care and kept quiet.
“Fortunately, I was wrong. Well, I should have guessed that. This maid is so unappealing that there’s no way a child as beautiful as Lori would come out of her womb.”
Unappealing? What’s that? Lori couldn’t help but wonder about the word’s meaning. She was curious, but she found the word was unpleasing to her ear.
“Don’t you agree with me, Lori?”
Hearing the lady call her name, Lori raised her head to meet Quinn’s eyes. “What?”
“This maid is ugly looking, right?”
“Quinn!! That’s enough!” hissed Richard as he couldn’t bare to make his daughter bad-mouth the mother. He knew Lori wouldn’t do it, but it would arouse Quinn’s suspicion.
“What did I do? It’s not like she is her mother.”
Richard’s jaw hardened, and Lori hid her head again as she felt her eyes moisten.
A maid? Ugly looking? Lori was sure Quinn was talking about her mother, and she didn’t like it. Now she was sure the beautiful lady didn’t like her mother, even mocking Anxia. From now on, Lori will cross out Quinn’s name from the list of names of her favorite people. She no longer fancied this lady.
When Richard picked her up in the room, he told her not to talk too much and to act as if Lori didn’t know Anxia through hand gestures. So Lori decided to sink her face into the crook of his neck because she knew she wasn’t as good at putting on a fake expression as her mother. Furthermore, she silently cried as someone she adored taunted her beloved mother, and she didn’t want to show her tears to that lady.
Nevertheless, Richard could feel something wet on his neck and collar. His heart panged, realizing his daughter cried, and tried her best not to show it. Just like Lori, he had also screamed in his heart and said that Qiao Anxia was the most beautiful among the beauties he had ever seen. But he controlled his emotions much better.
On the other hand, when her husband and daughter were furious, Anxia was not offended by the insult. She had never heard the word beautiful come from a man’s mouth or her co-workers.
Having a profession as an assassin, Anxia was required to disguise herself as a weak and ugly girl so that she never heard a word of praise. So she used to be insulted by people and found it strange when someone praised her beauty.
Richard took a deep breath before saying, “Never mind that. What do you mean by your threat?”
Quinn grinned from ear to ear, but strangely she still looked beautiful and elegant when she showed her evil smile. Quinn was one hundred percent sure this time the man would grant her wish to save his daughter.
She had been looking for a flaw or softest spot in this man for a long time, so she could use it to threaten him. Who would have thought this man’s greatest weakness was his biological child?
After knowing Lori was Richard’s child, Quinn was no longer interested in Lori. Nonetheless, thanks to Lori’s existence, Quinn could get what she desired.
“Lori, can you tell me what you’ve been drinking today?” Quinn’s simple question earned a horror look in Richard’s eyes.
For a moment, Lori didn’t want to answer. “Milk,” mumbled Lori in a whisper voice, but Richard could still hear it, and he felt his heart stop at that moment.
“YOU!! How could you do that to a child?”
“Don’t worry. My tonic will only activate after twenty-four runs. Then Lori will sleep for a long time, weakening her heart before she will finally leaves the world for good. You have less than fifty hours to get the antidote from me.”
Richard’s expression darkened hearing this while Anxia’s hands clenched at each side of her body.
How dare that woman give a child poison??
Is this karma? Because she once poisoned Michelle when they were young, and now her baby had to endure the punishment.
Anxia looked at Quinn with anger and hatred.
Whether this was her karma or not, Anxia would never let the cunning, ruthless lady who had hurt her daughter off the hook.
Anxia’s expression was utterly showed on her face, and Quinn could see her expression. However, Quinn had decided that Lori was not Anxia’s biological child, so she no longer cared about Anxia’s changing expressions.
Right now, her eyes were only focused on Richard, and her heart was cheering triumphantly at the man’s depressed expression and looking at her with rage.
“Are you still willing to leave this place? Have you changed your mind?” Quinn walked towards the sofa and sat down, crossing one leg over the other in an elegant manner that exuded an arrogant and overbearing aura.
“What do you want?” Richard hissed, trying to hold back his anger because he didn’t want to scare the girl in his arms.
“You know very well what I want. Besides, what’s wrong with you granting my wish? We don’t have to do it, and you only need to give it to me directly.”
Anxia glanced at Richard and noticed that the man’s expression looked so unsightly as if he were another person. She couldn’t help but wonder what kind of thing Quinn wanted to make Richard reluctant to give it.
It was for Lori’s safety, for heave sake! What did he doubt for?
