Chapter 104

The sword, Wu Jiang, was indeed in his hands now, and maybe the sword was indeed powerful, but he was the one who was powerless here.

It reminded him of a movie he watched in his previous life. The main character in the movie was a civilian, but when he was in danger, he was forced to use the most advanced weapons provided by the army to protect himself.

The main character, of course, had the privilege of being the main character, and he could still save himself even if he didn’t even know how to use a gun. The so-called privileges could only be obtained in the movie, and only the main character could have such privileges.

In this world, Bai Chen didn’t even know if he was the main character or only had a supporting role. Therefore, he wasn’t even sure if he could properly use the sword to save the disciples of the Sacred Leaf Sect. Let alone saving others, Bai Chen wasn’t even sure if he could save himself.

“You... you can use this sword again to save those people! I will return this sword to you so you can use it to save them!” Extending his sword-wielding hand towards Wu Jinhai, Bai Chen’s hand even trembled as he felt extremely frightened right now.

Even if Wu Jinhai had told him that the giant spider was just a low-level beast, he couldn’t easily gain the confidence to use the sword to save the people trapped inside the cocoons now.

The sword was already in front of him, but Wu Jinhai did not move as he calmly replied, “You have called the sword’s name, and the sword has recognized you as its master. You cannot return it to me anymore because the sword is yours now.”

Bai Chen felt like screaming in front of Wu Jinhai if he didn’t remember their current position. They were not far from the giant spider, and their voices might attract the spider’s attention. As such, he had to swallow his screams, but he still glared at the taller man.

.....

“Why can’t I just give it back to you? It’s just a sword! Why can’t you take it back?” Bai Chen voiced his protest once again.

“It’s not just a sword,” Wu Jinhai argued. “The sword has a soul, and once the sword recognizes the new master, it will not want to return to the old master. It won’t listen to my words either.”

Bai Chen gaped as he thought that the sword was no different from a girl who didn’t want to get back together with her ex-boyfriend at all costs.

In his previous life, he had heard how his classmates couldn’t stop complaining about how their ex-girlfriends didn’t want to return to their arms even if they had pleaded with the girls, and in Bai Chen’s eyes, the sword was the same.

“Is this sword a girl?” Bai Chen muttered as he brought the sword to his eyes and questioned the sword, but then he suddenly felt the weight on the sword once again, causing him to gasp in surprise. The next thing he heard was Wu Jinhai laughing in amusement.

“That sword was my son, and he would hate it if you mistake him for a girl,” Wu Jinhai explained after seeing Bai Chen’s funny reaction when the sword was upset.

Bai Chen once again glared at Wu Jinhai because the man didn’t tell him about it beforehand. He had to apologize to the sword before he could comfortably hold the sword again.

In his heart, Bai Chen thought that the sword was indeed like a girl in her period. It was very sensitive and would get angry easily, and Bai Chen sighed as he realized it.

“I saw those disciples from the Sacred Leaf Sect drop their swords when the spider started trapping them in the cocoons. Why don’t you just use their swords to save them, Your Highness?” Bai Chen was still trying to bid even though it was clear Wu Jinhai didn’t want to waste his energy on the giant spider.

“I told you before, didn’t I?” Wu Jinhai asked back, and from the tone of his voice alone, Bai Chen could tell that the masked man was annoyed right now. “Ordinary swords wouldn’t be able to break the cocoons easily. You could also see how their swords didn’t manage to injure the giant spider, right? That’s because their swords weren’t good enough. Wu Jiang is the best sword for fighting the spider”

Bai Chen knew nothing about the beast, and he also knew nothing about swords in this world. At a glance, all swords looked similar in Bai Chen’s eyes, so he couldn’t tell which swords were good and which were not.

“You don’t have much time left,” Wu Jinhai spoke again while crossing his arms in front of his chest, and Bai Chen frowned upon hearing those words. “It’s been almost ten minutes since the spider trapped those disciples into cocoons, so if you don’t save them soon, they will surely die.”

Bai Chen gasped once again. He debated with Wu Jinhai for almost ten minutes, and now he realized that he did have to save the disciples soon.

“Will you help me? I mean, I’ll help the disciples to get out of the cocoons, but you can help me distract the spider, right? I don’t think I’ll be able to get close to the cocoons without you helping me to distract the spider,” despite knowing that he didn’t have much time left, Bai Chen voiced another bargain with the man in red.

“You won’t need my help,” Wu Jinhai argued once again. “That spider is very weak, and you can kill it with just one slash with your sword. That way, you’ll be able to get close to the cocoons and save the disciples. Just give it a try, and you’ll see what happens.”

Bai Chen hesitated as he continued to stare at the taller man. Feng Qingshan did teach him how to swing a sword to attack his opponent, but Bai Chen wasn’t sure if he could apply that theory when he faced the giant spider.

He could feel his palms starting to sweat as he felt nervous, but when he looked at Wu Jinhai, he could see that the man’s posture remained relaxed as if he had no worries in his heart.

And Bai Chen finally sighed as he made up his mind. “Alright, I’ll help the disciples break free from the cocoons,” he decided.

Bai Chen couldn’t see it, but the lips that were hiding behind the golden mask formed a beautiful curve after their owner heard the decision.

Bai Chen indeed couldn’t see that the other man looked amused after hearing his decision, but he also wouldn’t care about it as he prepared himself to face the beast head-on.

The beast’s height was probably around 20 feet, and Bai Chen felt small when he compared himself to it. However, he took another deep breath before bringing his feet out of his hiding place. He gripped the sword tightly as he slowly approached the beast, trying not to attract the beast’s attention.

But he suddenly stepped on a dry tree branch, and it must have made a sound before he even reached the cobweb. The sound caused the spider to turn towards him, and the pair of red eyes instantly challenged the pair of blue eyes.

Bai Chen gulped nervously as the spider slowly descended from the cobweb. Wu Jinhai told him that the spider wouldn’t attack first if not provoked, but perhaps the beast was still angry that its previous home was destroyed by the disciples of the Sacred Leaf Sect, and it seemed that the beast was more alert now.

Bai Chen didn’t expect the spider to make a sound, but as he stood near the giant beast, he could hear the beast growl dangerously as if it was angry with him. He didn’t even do anything to the beast, but the beast looked like it wanted to take his life.

And perhaps the beast did want to finish off Bai Chen as soon as possible because it suddenly brought its eight legs towards Bai Chen, and Bai Chen could only freeze in place as both hands gripped the sword tightly.

Wu Jinhai said that he only needed to swing the sword once to kill the spider, but he couldn’t even move his hand to make the slightest swing.

The spider was already close to him and was even hovering above his head as Bai Chen craned his neck to look at the gigantic beast. Bai Chen’s pair of blue eyes could also see how the beast had begun to open its mouth as it prepared to launch an attack on him, and Bai Chen could only close his eyes tightly.

‘Am I going to be the next human cocoon?’ He thought as he waited for the beast’s attack.
