Chapter 37

When he had just transmigrated into this world, he appeared in Jing Pavilion, and just like how a chick would recognize the first figure it saw as its mother, Bai Chen also thought that the pavilion was his safe nest.

Even the male servant almost got a kick on the butt when he insisted on following his master. Thankfully, Bai Chen still remembered that being violent would danger his points.

The stingy system kept playing with his points today. Giving some points, and then taking them back mercilessly, Bai Chen thought that he looked like a toy owned by the system. And just like a kid who would probably feel bored playing with their toy, Bai Chen wondered when would the system get tired of him.

Huffing in annoyance, the owner of the pavilion dropped his buttock onto the bed before crossing his arms in front of his chest and furrowing his brows as if he wanted to kill the army of ants that walking innocently on the floor in front of him.

“I can’t even shapeshift into my wolf form when I participate in the Beast Hunting Event? So, it’s no use to become a werewolf at this point because I’m not allowed to shapeshift into my wolf form?” Bai Chen grumbled.

After hearing the information from Ma Qiao, Bai Chen felt like his heart had been broken into two. It wasn’t like he was experiencing a broken heart or something, but he just couldn’t believe what he had heard from the male servant.

He did accept the mission from the system, but that was partly because he had plans to transform into his wolf form during the event. Thinking that he might become like Wolverine or something after he transformed into his other form, he was disappointed that he wouldn’t be allowed to change into another form during the event.

Of course, he still remembered Zhu Ge’s words that the werewolves were not allowed to shapeshift into their wolf forms if it was not urgent, but he didn’t know that it would also apply to the Beast Hunting Event.

.....

“Beast Hunting Event is a dangerous event, and that’s kind of urgent matter, right?” He kept grumbling, but then he unfolded his arms as he remembered something. Glancing around the room, he then whispered. “Are you here, Bai Lang? I want to talk to you about some matters.”

Bai Chen didn’t even know how he was supposed to summon the white wolf, but he still tried his luck as he wished to see the little wolf right now.

However, nothing appeared in front of him even after he whispered to call the little wolf, and he frowned in confusion. “I couldn’t just call him like that to summon him? Then, how am I supposed to summon him?” He wondered, and he thought that he might need to find a nickname for the little wolf like how he gave a pet name to the system.

The system did hate how he kept calling it ‘sys,’ but the system still responded to him every time he called it that. Thus, Bai Chen assumed that he would probably need a pet name for Bai Lang so that the little wolf would immediately appear before him when he needed help.

Bai Chen had no clue as he kept sitting on the bed, but then he suddenly felt a cold sensation enveloping the back of his neck before a voice whispered into his ear, “You’re supposed to call me your ancestor, Bai Chen.”

“AAAAHH!!!”

A scream immediately resounded within Jing Pavilion, and the loud noise caused Ma Qiao, who was standing in front of the pavilion, to flinch before he ran for the door.

“What happened, Your Highness? Are you all right?” The servant asked a question in panic, but he didn’t dare to open the door because he was afraid that the Prince would kick his precious ass for real.

Bai Chen could hear the servant’s voice as well as the frantic banging on the door, and he was still trying to control his raging breath before he shifted his gaze to the side. He then found the white wolf calmly hugging his neck from behind.

The little wolf looked like a koala hanging from a tree, and even though it looked adorable, Bai Chen still felt irritated at the wolf’s sudden appearance.

Bai Chen didn’t know whether to cry or laugh when he saw the little wolf’s cute expression, but he knew that he still needed to answer Ma Qiao’s question before the servant destroyed the door for real, “Nothing happened! Leave this pavilion if you don’t want to see my footprint on your butt!”

The little wolf had appeared, and Bai Chen wanted to use this opportunity even if he was furious because of what the wolf had just done to him.

Hearing how Ma Qiao replied to his words, Bai Chen breathed a sigh of relief that the male servant had finally left his pavilion. Now, he could have a peaceful conversation with the white wolf.

“You are indeed a ghost, right? Your body feels as cold as a corpse when you touch me, and I almost dropped my heart to the floor!” Bai Chen commented, and without replying to the comment, Bai Lang suddenly floated up before sitting on the chair in front of Bai Chen.

Crossing its short legs with difficulty and also folding the chubby arms in front of its chest, Bai Lang arrogantly looked at the young man while asking, “You were planning on giving me a pet name, weren’t you? What kind of pet name are you going to give me?”

It wasn’t the first time Bai Lang had managed to read his mind, and Bai Chen tried not to be surprised by it. However, he was still surprised that the little wolf was curious about his plans regarding the pet’s name. ‘But maybe it’s my chance to give this little ghost a pet name,’ he thought, but then he winced when the white wolf suddenly glared at him. He forgot that the wolf could read his mind.

The brunette gulped nervously, but then he racked his brain to come up with a suitable nickname for the wolf. “How about I call you Langlang? Sounds cute, right?” He finally voiced his opinion.

“You’ve been calling me cute since the first time we met, and I have to repeat myself that I’m not cute at all,” Bai Lang immediately disagreed. “But I’m in a good mood today, so you can call me by that silly name. I don’t mind.”

Bai Chen tried hard not to question the white wolf. He actually wondered why the wolf could even have a good mood when the creature was no different from a ghost, but he just nodded his head while smiling at the wolf in response.

Seeing the obedient response, Bai Lang sighed before continuing, “You just attended the court meeting, right? I know you have a lot of things troubling your mind right now, but you just can ask me three questions for now. Take the chance before I change my mind.”

Bai Chen did have a lot of things on his mind, but Bai Lang only gave him three slots for questions. The questions in his head were more than three, but he chose to be grateful that he didn’t protest.

Carefully, he tried to sort out the questions in his head before choosing the most important questions. “First, I want to know why my palace is outside the Rongyao Imperial Palace. Second, I want to know why my father and brother have white hair when I have brown hair. Third, I want to know more about the Beast Hunting Event.”

Bai Chen wished he didn’t miss any important questions as he managed to break his curiosity down to three questions, and now he was patiently waiting for Bai Lang to answer them. Sitting on the bed like a good boy, Bai Chen didn’t even urge the white wolf to answer his question.

“Let me ask you a question before I can answer your question, Bai Chen,” Bai Lang finally answered, and the voice that came out of the wolf’s mouth sounded so serious. “Are you having trouble reading books?”

The white wolf’s question had nothing to do with his questions, but Bai Chen still answered, “No. I can read any book well.”

“You can also read the writings of this world, right?” Bai Lang asked again.

“Yes,” Bai Chen replied curtly.

Bai Lang nodded after the short Q&A session, and he suddenly floated again towards Bai Chen and stopped in front of the young man. The wolf raised its right hand before using the cute paw to hit Bai Chen’s forehead.

The young man gasped, but Bai Lang carelessly said, “Don’t be lazy and go to Wenxue Pavilion to read some books if you can read. You’ll find the answers to your questions there.”
