Chapter 276
“Don’t think you can get rid of me that easily. I already pledged my life to you, so I don’t plan on letting you go there alone” Sharyn said coldly.
She then turned her gaze to every other person and spoke.
“I will be going with him... I hope there is no problem with that?” Sharyn said with a deep bow.
Alex was about to refuse but his voice was suppressed by the voice of many.
“Nice!”
“I totally agree!”
“You should go!”
“HAHAHAHAHA! You have to go!”
.....
Everyone in the room agreed to this even before Alex could reject it. He was pulled out of the room by Sharyn and all the way out he had a blank expression on his face. Was this some sort of coup or planned attempt to hold him down?
Never in his life did he think these people would dare join hands and rise against him.
“Maybe I’m not as scary as I used to be,” Alex said with a bitter smile.
“Who wants to be scary when they have so many wonderful people around them?” Sharyn responded to his words absent-mindedly but unknown to her Alex took her words to heart and pondered on them in silence.
Thinking of it now, he realized how much of a fool he has been. After he came to this world he has been so fierce and violent, he silently pushed everyone close to him away. These people did not view him as a friend but as a leader. Only after today’s meeting did he feel that sense of familiarity again. Like a bond between friends rekindling.
a few minutes their things were neatly packed and they took a carrier ship but much smaller than that of the alliance with Damnation and a False seed.
False seeds were also mecha’s like real seeds but needed to be controlled manually making them less agile and effective than the normal seed. The False seeds lacked the ability to manifest the user’s power through itself, making it far inferior to a true seed but it was better than battleships.
While in the control room with their crew, Alex kept sneaking glances at Sharyn making her feel uncomfortable.
“What do you want to say?” Sharyn finally asked when she couldn’t remain silent anymore.
“Why did you choose to follow me?” Alex asked with a stern look on his face.
“You freed me from my service to those tyrants.... I would be more than happy to serve you all my life since I believe your goal is better” Sharyn said but Alex remained unmoved.
“Then what is your goal?” Alex asked with a raised eyebrow.
“I refuse to believe you have no goal” Alex added with a slight frown on his face.
“My goal died with someone decades ago with someone I loved... and even if I had one it is irrelevant now that I’m indebted to you” Sharyn said with frosty eyes that could dig a person’s soul out.
Hearing this Alex’s eyes shivered a bit and he didn’t pursue the matter anymore. He leaned back and shut his eyes for a few seconds in silence before Sharyn’s voice dragged him back to reality.
“That was not what you intended to ask,” Sharyn said as he finally made eye contact with Alex, looking deep into his eyes as if she wanted to see all the secrets hidden within his soul.
“You spoke about having friends and loved ones around... Since you know so much you should have some?” Alex asked calmly as he peered into her beautiful eyes as well. The face of all deity race members could be considered extremely beautiful and handsome.
That’s how they earned the name, deity!
“That’s the past, they are all gone... I would rather focus on the future” Sharyn said and Alex sighed.
While she tried to hide it, Alex could see the pain in her eyes. The pain of someone who lost everything and had nothing else to live for. Right now, she only lived to promote the goal of others since hers was dead already.
“It’s okay if you wish to stay by my side, but you should know it won’t be easy.... Unlike those you once served, I don’t move with an army, I am sometimes impulsive and act without thinking... just don’t expect much from me and you may end up dead” Alex said with a smile.
Hearing this, Sharyn’s eyes shook and she quickly looked away. This was Alex’s way of saying he accepts her after begging him to do so for so long. While she never showed it, she was extremely frustrated, and sometimes she was scared Alex would drop her at any time.
If she couldn’t stand by Alex’s side, where else could she go?
She had no family to go back to and with the death of Kyle and the rest in the carrier spacecraft, losing thousands of soldiers and battleships, she would be executed the moment she returned.
Alex was her only hope of survival and she desperately tried to hide this fact.
“You don’t have to be afraid... whoever Alex Briggs decides to protect, not even god can touch them... I will protect you from the alliance, the deity race, and this universe” Alex said in a low tone before walking away.
Sharyn could only gaze at his broad back with a reddened face and tears rolling down her cheeks. For the first time in months, she finally felt safe.
............
Blegh!
As soon as Alex returned to his room in the aircraft, he fell on his knees and spat out a mouthful of blood. This time he has been injured badly and even after months of using up countless resources belonging to an entire planet, he couldn’t completely heal himself.
“It seemed such a move should have killed me regardless. This internal injury is not something I can heal... I can only live with it from now on... Sad” Alex muttered as he cleaned the golden blood on his lips while smiling bitterly.
