Chapter 381
*Cough* “Where was I? Ah yes! The first year will always have the slow-paced and bothersome beginner curriculum, but life waits for no one, so I will teach basic close quarter combat and basic Energy Flow control to those who can show me their tenacity to improve.” Biro explained how he was going to teach more than he should. He even looked at Vincent while saying the last part.
Similar to how Duke Biro Hawkins agreed to become a teacher, it appeared he was going to teach more because of Vincent.
“We can learn like the second and third years? Great!”
“It is a blessing Duke Biro Hawkins has become a teacher in our first year.”
One after the other, many students who had the warrior class became cheerful that they could learn instead of spending their first year exercising nonstop. Repeating the same training exercises for six months without learning anything new was the reason many hated their first year in the academy.
Many of the students with a mage class looked at Maira with a hopeful gaze, but she glared at them instead. It appeared Duke Biro Hawkins was going to be the only exception to the first-year curse, which was six months of boredom.
“Thank you, Duke, but I hope the students know only you are willing to teach more than it is required.” Maira looked at the students and continued, ” Follow me to your class.” *sigh* “This is bothersome.”
Maria paid no attention if she was heard or not. She ignored everyone and headed to the classroom. The students looked at each other with a frown and began following her one after another.
.....
Kazumi felt mixed feelings about Maira’s cold character. However, she was intrigued about how a woman with such an unsociable character became a teacher.
[Maria is like a tour leader that is working overtime without pay. Her coldness and grumpiness are surprising, considering the teens she is disrespecting come from a variety of authority levels.]
-I hope she can be a good teacher at least.-
[Yeah. We will probably have no problems with Biro’s class, but hers is giving me mixed feelings.]
Vincent turned his gaze and nodded at Biro and Ollie. He held his wife’s slightly nervously shaking hand and followed his classmates.
“So he is the one who brought you here, teacher Biro. ” Ton said while watching Vincent, Lilith, and Nick following at the rear of Class A.
“I am glad to meet you again, teach. Working here can be arduous sometimes.” Ton said. He looked at Ollie and continued, “I am glad to meet another one of the few people who call Duke Biro Hawkins their teacher. I hope your path to a Paladin is a smooth ride with the best teacher around.”
“Thank you, Count...”
“No, call me Ton. We are students of the same teacher on our road to Paladinship and beyond.” Ton patted Ollie’s arm and extended his hand. The two soon shook their hands, and later, the second class arrived.
*Class A Classroom*
After walking for some time, Maria stopped in front of a door. She entered inside and asked to be followed. The students entered one after the other.
Vincent and Lilith entered last. They looked around, and both became surprised by how large the classroom was. It was quite similar to being called an auditorium.
Maria saw that the last of the students had entered.
“Finally, the last of the pack entered.” *sigh* She looked at the students gathered in front of the teacher’s desk and continued, “I will leave and return one hour later. I will need all of you to have formed a team of five by then. Any remaining students without a team will have to form one together.”
Maria didn’t give a chance to listen to a question. She turned around and left the classroom.
“That’s all? I couldn’t ask a question...”
“So she is the annoying teacher many hate. Why did she have to be our homeroom teacher...”
“I guess our first year isn’t going to be that nice after all...”
Many of the students didn’t look too happy with Maria as their teacher. Ironically, the teacher was bothered by her students, and the students were bothered by their teacher. However, her cold chilling glare brought order in the class.
There were fifty students in the classroom in total. It meant ten teams needed to be formed. However, one of the students was receiving dozens upon dozens of hateful and disgusted glares. Nick was like the black sheep of the room because of his infamy.
Vincent didn’t need any powerful classmates in his team. He held Lilith’s hand and went to take a seat at the back of the class. However, Nick didn’t join them. He remained alone not to make his friend blacklisted by the class.
[Is Nick afraid to be with us? Does he want you and Lilith to find a good team, and he doesn’t want to ruin your chances?]
Vincent looked at Lilith and asked, “What kind of team do you want? I can go and look for people that fit your criteria if you’d like.”
“Whoever you and Kazumi choose will be the best choice. ” Lilith replied. She smiled and tried to relax her racing, anxious heart. It was going to take some time for Lilith to get used to a life surrounded by people she didn’t know, nor knew their intentions.
Vincent raised his hand. “Hey, Nikolai, come and sit near me.” He said what Nick feared the most.
Many glares were now pointed at Vincent. Some thought he made a mistake, while others couldn’t believe what they heard. Regardless of their thoughts, Nick went to sit beside Vincent after he called for him again.
“Why did you ask me to join you? ” Nick asked. He had a conflicted expression on his face. “I wanted to spare my friend and his wife from my infamy.”
“Aren’t you my friend? I need a good friend and not a group of people who abandon me when it becomes inconvenient for them. I know that feeling when I was at my lowest. One person had saved me at that time.” Vincent reassuringly responded.
Nick didn’t respond with words. He nodded, and his distressed expression relaxed. He was content someone didn’t mind the infamy his presence would cause.
[Besides Nick’s problem, we need him to be in our team. He knows about Lupa, and he can help us request the other two members not to say a word about not being a real familiar.]
-That means we should strive to have Melissa and Clair in our team?-
[Not a bad idea... but Melissa might make the next six months quite bothersome.]
-Speak of the devil...-
Melissa approached Vincent. The students started gossiping about her getting close to Nick. They feared she might join his team.
“Vincent, I will form a team far stronger than yours! Just you wait! Humph!” Melissa declared to make a better team than Vincent’s, to everyone’s surprise. Some began to wonder what their relationship was.
Melissa went near the teacher’s desk and asked who wanted to join her team. Surprisingly, many students rushed at the occasion as if they were waiting for her.
Melissa was the strongest mage in the class with her stats. Furthermore, she had the quickest chant and spell control out of all the mages that displayed their spell near the Inspection Gemstone.
Regardless of Melissa’s potential, her father was the academy’s headmaster. She was sought after not only because of her power but because of her family as well.
Students from families of both the royal and aristocrat factions side wanted to be in her team to benefit until their academic day’s end.
Vincent kept an eye on Clair as time passed. However, no matter who she tried to approach, she was ignored or declined rudely.
Vincent could see how Clair had given up because she couldn’t approach Melissa after declaring to form the best team. “How about I go and ask Clair to come here?” He asked.
“Okay. ” Nick asked immediately as if he was thinking about asking Vincent if he was fine to have Clair in their team.
[That was a quick confirmation. I bet Nick likes Clair, hehe.]
Kazumi confirmed her suspicion after she matched Nick blushing timings corresponded with his eyes catching the sight of Clair.
“Even though Clair was scared of Sakura, I didn’t see Clair as a bad person.” Lilith seemed to accept as well.
Vincent stood up and went over to Clair. “Hi, Clair. Are you looking for a team?” He asked.
Clair turned around and saw Vincent. She nervously nodded and replied, “Yes... no one wants me because of my class...” Her emotions could be felt from her voice. She was sad to be shooed by every classmate she asked.
“You can join me, Lilith and Nikolai then. Our team is looking for trustable people rather than a combat class.” Vincent offered.
Clair moved her gaze and saw Nick and Lilith sitting at the back of the classroom. “B-but I’m useless. No one wants me on their team.” She looked more nervous than before all of a sudden.
“My offer still stands, but I will hope you can join us.” Vincent decided Clair needed time to think. He took a step back and continued, “I bet your mother will feel reassured you will be in a team with the Lionheart and Graymoon family.”
