Chapter 92
Those were the exact words that Vera had said to Blake before holing herself in her basement.
And it made Blake realize something bad must have happened and Vera wanted to prepare herself for something.
He then stared at the new bracelet that Vera just gave her this morning before she came back into seclusion.
“Put nether into this bracelet when you found another humanoid demon, and wait for me to come. Don’t engage them in anything, be it a talk or a fight. You understand?”
Blake just nodded his head in understanding and wore the bracelet on his wrist when Vera told him those words and gave him the bracelet.
But deep down Blake really wanted to ask Vera what made her very worried that she even decided to skip meals even though she clearly loved to eat.
Blake had the urge to tell Vera that he would try his best to help her any way he could, be it grabbing the ingredients she needed for her test, or even just her telling him about her worries.
But Blake had thought long about it.
.....
Just remembering how Vera told him that her matters were related to the deeper demon realm where there were demons that could conquer a whole world, Blake just felt the powerlessness in his very being that the words that wanted to come out of his mouth came back down to his stomach and stayed there.
He was very familiar with that feeling, the feeling of weakness.
And from his experience, he knew that no matter what mindset you have or how strong the determination you have in you, if you were weak, then that’s that.
No matter how strong your will was, if you didn’t have real power, then someone with real strength could just bend you however they like using their absolute power.
That’s what he had learned back when he was just a child that couldn’t use mana and that’s what he currently had in his mind.
No matter how much he wanted to help Vera, her problem was currently too big for him to handle.
And him wanting to help her wouldn’t do anything that could actually help her as he was just a powerless demon that hasn’t even evolved once.
In the end, Blake could only grit his teeth and grip his fist tightly.
He didn’t like being reminded of the feeling that he had started to forget. A feeling that had started being thrown out of his system.
But cases like this where he knew his help would be useless were a huge reminder for himself about the reality of his situation.
Despite being able to kill as many demonic beasts as he wanted, and also defeating a group of humanoid demons while being outnumbered, it didn’t really matter much to Blake when he realized that he was powerless to help someone that he cared about.
‘I need to get stronger...’ Blake thought to himself.
‘I need to level up and evolve...’
It was already a clear fact that he needed to gather souls and eat souls to level up and evolve before descending to the next demon realm.
And Blake hunting demonic beasts in the forest and even eating tasteless souls despite having grown quite tired of them was because of that goal that he needed to reach.
But in some cases, like what he was currently about to do, was also a way for him to get himself stronger.
‘This spell was basically done, I only need to test it out on real creatures later.’
Blake then walked over to a relatively empty ground that he had used over and over again to write runes to figure out the correct rune combinations.
‘For now, I can learn about the brownish demon’s and the greenish demon’s spells.’
Grabbing a stick near him, Blake then began to write the set of runes that the brownish demon and the greenish demon used to cast their spells onto the ground.
Blake might have already memorized their runes. And Blake had also used the brownish demon’s spell to trap itself inside the circular wall.
But while he was sure that the greenish demon had another element that he didn’t have access to, just writing the runes on the ground and understanding it better would only benefit him as he could then recognize the types of runes that the certain element that the greenish demon used.
If he ever found those runes again when fighting another demon mage, then Blake would know to expect roots or maybe plant-type stuff to come after him rather than just guessing blindly like the first time he saw the greenish demon.
With his perfect memory, Blake then began writing the two sets of runes on the ground perfectly, even to the minuscule bends and lines that the runes had.
Then going with the set of runes that he was familiar with, Blake started analyzing the circular earth wall spell that belonged to the brownish demon.
Without a clear catalog of which runes did what, Blake could only play a guessing game of what each rune does.
He recognized the same runes that were used in the basic earth wall spell.
And he also saw some runes that he didn’t see in the basic earth wall spell.
For now, Blake decided to just keep those things in mind and when he found another earth spell, Blake would try to figure out more about those earth runes and their uses so that he would be able to create his own original spell using the earth element.
Blake then moved on to the greenish demon’s spell.
Truthfully, Blake thought that he didn’t have anything much to do with the greenish demon’s runes since he assumed that he wouldn’t recognize anything from the runes that the greenish demon used and he also couldn’t use them either.
However, after taking a very good look at it, Blake realized something that he didn’t notice before.
It was still true that he had never seen most of the runes that the greenish demon used before, but actually, Blake recognized a few runes in the set of runes.
But when Blake saw it, Blake was quite baffled as he realized that the runes that he recognized belonged to the darkness element runes.
The greenish demon had actually used darkness element runes in her spell.
