Chapter 71
And out of the five humanoid demons in front of him, the two humanoid demons at the back, the ones that were currently drawing demonic runes were the ones that Blake was more worried about since the possibility of him being defeated by an unknown spell was higher compared to being defeated by the three other demons that Blake assumes used their unique physique feature as their main method of attacking.
And when Blake observed the two demons closely, Blake realized something. And it made him both happy and slightly confused.
It was the fact that the two demons drew the demonic runes in a very slow manner compared to him and Vera.
‘Are my eyes seeing this in slow motion or are they really that slow?’ Blake thought when he first realized this.
Blake planned to see first what demonic runes the two demons were drawn to see whether he could recognize the spell that they were trying to cast.
However, due to their lack of speed in drawing those runes, Blake had to adjust his plan a little bit and move his body to another place as three different attacks were already on their way toward him.
.....
Simply jumping back wouldn’t give Blake much distance, so the moment his feet kicked against the ground and his body flew backward, his right hand already completed the single darkness tendril spell.
The darkness tendril spell was aimed towards a tree branch about 15 meters away from his current location.
And just before Blake lost the momentum from his earlier jump, the darkness tendril latched itself onto the tree branch and Blake’s body started being pulled toward the three branch’s direction.
But of course, Blake didn’t just run away to only gain a safe distance between himself and the three demons.
Blake saw a small gap that he could use to sneak in a little preparation spell.
While his right hand was drawing the darkness tendril rune, his left hand was also busy drawing another rune which he was already too familiar with.
In just a split second, Blake completed his original marking spell and aimed it towards the demon with the skeletal bone that was almost practically beside him a second ago.
With the distance between him and the skeletal wing demon only being a few steps apart, there was no way for the demon to dodge Blake’s marking spell that was shot at point blank range.
The ball of darkness traveled that short distance in a blink of an eye and landed on the demon’s chest which was reddish in color with no fur covering them.
The skeletal wing demon had a visible shock on its face as the lump of darkness element suddenly appeared and flew straight to its chest.
But when finding out that it didn’t feel even a prick after the ball of darkness hit its chest, the skeletal wing demon quickly erased the worry in its mind as it started scanning its surroundings to spot where Blake had gone to.
And after making a quick scan and failing to find Blake in its eyesight, the skeletal wing demon started moving around left and right to search from different angles before it finally found Blake.
Seeing that Blake had already run off quite a distance away from the location, the skeletal wing demon released an incomprehensible shout to the sky before spreading its skeletal wings again and making its way towards Blake’s location.
Blake saw his marking spell had attached itself to the skeletal wing demon and also saw how the demon had a relatively normal, slower than the average beasts’ speed without spreading its wings and nodded in understanding.
‘As long as it’s not spreading its wings and increasing its speed, the darkness tendrils should be able to catch it easily.’
Blake also noticed the two other physical demons that were still making their way towards him, albeit they were currently more or less negligible with their moving speed as Blake could just make sure that he kept on moving away so they couldn’t catch up to him.
And although it looked as if Blake was moving all over the place, in reality, Blake was only circling the area as he still wanted to observe the two demons that stayed back and cast spells.
They took longer than expected to cast a single spell, about 4 whole seconds to complete a single set of runes.
And although Blake wanted to get a full view of the runes that they drew, he wasn’t able to see them due to him constantly moving and only being able to see a glimpse of a part of the demonic runes.
From that quick look, Blake was sure that he didn’t know any runes that the greenish demons drew.
But on the other hand, he recognizes some runes that the brownish demon had drawn.
And those runes belonged to the earth element’s runes.
Which means that there’s a very high possibility that Blake would have to watch his steps in case earth spikes would start protruding from the ground beneath his feet or earth walls appear to block his way.
And with the skeletal wing demon hot in his tail, Blake didn’t have an option to sit still and prepare properly as he wasn’t sure about risking taking an attack from the skeletal demon that had an arm as huge as a bear’s limb.
So he had to keep moving in circles as he noticed that the skeletal wing demon didn’t have the ability to suddenly appear beside him again other than the first time that it was moving in a straight line.
And with the three demons that were directly running at him being kept in check, Blake returned his focus back to the two demons that were casting spells.
When Blake saw that the two demons had finished drawing their runes and prepared himself for what was about to come, Blake noticed something strange.
The set of runes that the two demons had finished drawing stayed glowing in the air.
They didn’t break like when Vera tried to cast a second realm spell nor did they disappear like any other spells when it had been successfully cast.
The two sets of runes just float in front of the two demon’s hands, while the two demons’ eyes start darting everywhere, looking for the location of their target.
