Chapter 356
The sudden interruption caused a chain reaction in the kitchen where Estela’s entire body began to emit a mineral glow filled with mana, next to her Claire’s telekinetic powers began to manifest as Desmond took a side step to get a better vantage point to see the intruder.
Being Desmond who had the best response time, he reacted quickly after recognizing the unexpected guest by getting in the way of Claire and Estela to stop them.
In the heat of the moment, Desmond completely forgot one unstable variable in all of this and his expression instantly worsened as he saw a shadow materialize with daggers in both hands behind the guest.
The sun-like eyes of the guest showed a hint of recognition and pride just before a simple sentence left the lips of its owner: “Stand still.”
The echoes of female voices reverberated with charm and dominance, paralyzing Revna on the spot. She panicked as she felt her entire body refuse to follow her command.
Not wanting to offend his unexpected guest, Desmond immediately stepped forward speaking respectfully while casting occasional worried glances at Revna: “Katya forgive the girl, she only reacted this way because she must protect me, she had no intention of offending you.” ”
Katya’s two burning suns continued to stare intently at Desmond as Revna regained her movement with no other problem, even with the lack of words; It seemed that Katya had no intention of harming the girl... Perhaps Katya had never considered her a threat in the first place so she was not offended.
Sensing a meaningful look from Desmond, Revna slowly withdrew from Katya, and only when she was away from Katya, did she revert to her shadow form before plunging into Desmond’s shadow.
.....
“Quite an interesting girl, her faith is intense though impure, her mind an unusual mess but it seems you have become the object of her adoration and loyalty; you don’t waste your time hunter ” Surprisingly Katya made a couple of comments about Revna’s existence without pointing or resentful for being attacked and although her comment was somewhat direct; Katya seemed to be congratulating Desmond.
“That’s quite a compliment coming from an archangel,” Desmond replied with a bit of discomfort.
“Save the insincere comments” Katya replied with sharp words, it seemed that the archangel had her own experience with hypocritical people so she was not nice to Desmond about it.
For her part, Claire could barely keep up with everything that was happening, the first being the sudden appearance of an entity that seemed to have come from legends, a beautiful female angel with six wings followed by the appearance of a beautiful looking nordic woman who now seemed to be hiding within Desmond’s shadow; no matter how strong-minded Claire was, this entire scenario was too much for her.
Noticing the stunned expression on Claire’s face and being rather uncomfortable himself, Desmond took a deep breath and made a suggestion he never thought he would make to a Celestial even when he found out about them: “I don’t think you’ve I came here just to scare us so why don’t you sit down at the table with us for tea and tell me your reasons for being here.”
If Desmond had, to be honest, he didn’t think at all that Katya would say yes to his proposal, and in his place what he hoped was that the archangel would refuse before quickly explaining her intentions and leaving; so while Estela began to prepare the tea under Desmond’s command, the latter was actually just waiting for Katya’s refusal.
The two endless supernovae decorating Katya’s eyes only glared at Desmond for a brief moment as if these could penetrate Desmond’s mind, tearing away the veil of his lies and intentions before she replied, “Truly a disingenuous man. but I rarely get the chance to taste tea made by natura so I will accept your offer”
The piercing gaze accompanied by Katya’s direct comments was enough to make Desmond feel pressured, he did not have a very deep knowledge of the archangels and their information was not available in the association so Desmond did not know much about their abilities and nature, so it was difficult for him to predict Katya’s actions and that bothered him; especially when Katya seemed to be able to read his mind with ease.
And while Estela showed an exalted mastery in the art of tea, Desmond and Claire sat at one end of the table looking with some discomfort at Katya who was waiting seated with overflowing elegance on the other side.
Her almost ethereal presence encompassed and overwhelmed the entire room without seeming like she was really making an effort about it, Katya just calmly observed her surroundings with just a well-hidden tinge of curiosity in her gaze.
Desmond from his side was having a headache right now not really knowing what to do with the archangel who didn’t seem to really appreciate him as a person even though the latter had saved his life in the past.
In Claire’s case, she just watched Katya completely absorbed by the curiosity and amazement that she felt for the presence of an archangel in the room as well as for the appearance of divine beauty that Katya possessed.
Perhaps triggered by Claire’s intense gaze, Katya’s attention seemed to focus entirely on Claire for an instant causing the latter to have the feeling that only she and Katya existed in the world with everything around her turning pale and insipid.
Instantly that surreal feeling vanished from Claire’s mind when she heard the archangel comment on her always harmonious voice: “Funny, two souls so beautiful coexisting with two souls so damaged but full of potential... you mortals are full of wonders”
Claire’s sixth sense told her that Katya’s comment was more than just a way of expressing herself because before she felt as if her essence was invaded by Katya’s almost divine presence but having long ago felt the enormous caution that Desmond showed towards Katya; Claire chose not to comment on it and instead focused on another part of what the archangel said: “Do you interact much with mortals?”
Interestingly unlike her attitude towards Desmond, Katya was not indifferent to Claire’s question and replied with an incredibly faint smile on her divinely beautiful face, “I have seen many mortals, I have saved the lives of countless mortals, and I have been worshiped by a lot of mortals... but I don’t normally interact with them.”
Obviously, the point of view of a being who was even seen as a deity by many was different from the perspective of a young human girl who wasn’t even quite used to her new powers so Claire couldn’t read much of Katya’s mood but she was still able to read between the lines.
“You say normally, that means you’ve done it; It is not?” Too curious to back away now, Claire asked.
An awkward silence filled the room as Katya just stared at Claire, the seconds felt like hours under the gaze of an archangel but before Desmond tried to intervene believing that Claire had made the celestial being angry; Katya finally answered.
“I have, many years ago during one of the many holy wars I have been in, I took in a mortal girl with a special bloodline, she was the last survivor of a world that was devoured by the race of chaos leaving nothing more what death and pain in its wake”
Surprisingly, an existence as beautiful and perfect as Katya had quite a dark past to speak of, perhaps it was due to her nature as an archangel that she was destined to exist or appear in places of conflict and suffering, but even that was just a guess made by Claire and Desmond.
The curious nature of a woman made Claire want to know more about the story told by Katya who, noticing the questioning look she was receiving, continued with her story:
“After the war, her world was reduced to ashes, the girl named Soi Fong stayed under my care for some time, I did not know much about how to care for and raise a mortal but it was not difficult to ask other mortals during my travels; when she grew up enough and I was ready to go back to the battlefield I left Soi Fong in the care of the association where she soon got her hunter′s book... I haven’t seen much of her since then”
Surprisingly Katya seemed to become momentarily vulnerable as she told her story opening a small crack in her armor but as soon as that gap appeared Katya’s expression returned to the calm lake before completely repairing the armor surrounding her person.
A slight discomfort surrounded the atmosphere but it was Revna who emerged from Desmond’s shadow standing behind him and while she looked with persistent fear at the archangel she commented with empathy: “That girl must miss you a lot, you took her out of the abyss and took care of her when she most needed it; I can’t imagine what it was like for her to separate from you”
It was as if her comment had struck a chord or a taboo subject but Katya’s expression turned a bit uncertain as she replied, “I had to leave her behind, I couldn’t give up my duties and my place is on the battlefield protecting the equilibrium; I could not give up my nature... the very essence of my existence for her”
“But she still misses you, right?” Revna interrupted.
The previously sealed gap in Katya’s armor was completely torn revealing an incredibly vulnerable and defenseless side of the archangel: “I’ve seen her on occasion, she still hates the race of chaos so it’s not uncommon to see her on the battlefield sometimes... I hated it, I hated seeing that little girl I found on a dying planet in danger but she always looks at me with a smile saying words I don’t understand about emotions I don’t understand”
It was as if a giant bell had been rattled within Desmond’s mind as he recalled the strange questions the archangel had asked the last time they met, the sudden realization accompanied by the inexplicable feeling or premonition that knowing so much about life Katya’s personal would bring him a lot of trouble.
