Chapter 342
Sweat was pouring down Rundert’s forehead and his breath was somewhat chaotic, under normal circumstances, Rundert would have been able to effortlessly fight the giant gorilla but that bastard had chosen to appear after the commander used his ult thus encountering an exhausted Rundert.
But if that wasn’t enough, completely opposite to its aggressive and stupid appearance, the gorilla was quite smart in choosing to harass Rundert to exhaustion by forcing the latter to use his powers to protect his minions.
Now dancing mockingly, the giant gorilla seemed pleased with Rundert’s anger, but perhaps its provocation went too far.
With his eyes blinded by rage, Rundert preferred to hurt himself rather than let that stupid gorilla get away with it. Clasping both hands on his chest, Rundert summoned a terrifying amount of gravitational force that soon began to form a compact and weakened version from a black hole where the light was beginning to be distorted by powerful gravitational forces.
Sensing danger, the flaming-haired gorilla stood alert and stopped dancing provocatively to prepare to receive or dodge Rundert’s attack.
Spitting up blood, Rundert extended his right hand forward holding the sphere of compressed gravitational energy, and as the gorilla prepared to dodge the projectile; Rundert crushed the energy sphere with his hand.
For a second it seemed that Rundert had canceled his ability but the gorilla didn’t think that way, for some reason the gorilla felt that it was in serious danger but before it could do anything about it, a gravitational pull of unprecedented magnitude took control of the thousand-ton gorilla and launched it hundreds of meters into the air.
At first, the gorilla seemed confused without understanding what had happened, but when it had the opportunity to look down and see that the ground was already almost half a kilometer away; screams of terror came rushing out from the once arrogant creature.
.....
But before the flaming gorilla even began to fall, it was Rundert who fell unconscious from overexertion, having used one of his ultimates for the second time after going through a battle of attrition that started with his exhausted state take a toll on him, leaving the commander out of action.
Still, no one dared to despise the commander, he alone had completely changed the course of the battle, having slaughtered thousands of mutated beasts in a single move and finished off one of the four mutated beasts that seemed to be leading the attack.
It was clear that Rundert had a well-earned reputation, now it just needed the remaining human forces to hold the fort against the other three mutated beasts.
The giant two-tailed scorpion seemed to be cautious by nature and stayed as far away from the battlefield as possible where artillery warheads were still occasionally falling, so only occasional purple bolts hit the defensive wall causing some damage; At the moment the scorpion didn’t seem like an imminent threat but it couldn’t be left like this forever since sooner or later it would end up destroying the defensive wall.
Surprisingly, the giant sandworm was not in a much better situation than the flaming gorilla, as dozens of deep wounds filled its body without even blood to be spilled as all of these wounds had been completely charred.
A few tens of meters from the giant sandworm, a beautiful girl with vermilion hair moved gracefully causing the two giant fire whips coming out of her wrists to dance whipping the giant sandworm keeping it too busy trying to survive to lose its time to destroy the city.
Dangerously beautiful was the image Sasha gave to viewers at the time as her adorable and slightly sultry appearance was no match for the girl’s capabilities when it came to the destruction department at all as even Desmond couldn’t compete with her in terms of sheer destructive power.
It was due to her lineage that Sasha possessed an unparalleled affinity for fire mana which allowed her to exhibit preposterous combat prowess when she used her race’s inherent special fire.
“I hate worms” her silky smooth voice added several points to her charm but no one would dare to have funny thoughts after seeing what Sasha did next.
Retracting both hands in a spiral motion, the vermilion fire whips began to entwine on themselves quickly forming a pair of fire drills that rotated at a terrifying speed.
With a jolt Sasha severed the bond that bound her body to the fire drills, sending them projectile-like in the direction of the giant sandworm.
Perhaps only the expression: “Like hot drills drilling through butter” was adequate to describe the effect of the attack on Sasha who now looked slightly exhausted.
Now with two holes several meters in diameter with flames burning from within, the sandworm went into a fear-inspired frenzy as it desperately tried to go back the way it came only to be suppressed again by Sasha who had re-formed her fire whips.
With the sandworm already on its deathbed, the gorilla falling to its doom, and the giant scorpion trying to play it safe, it was the last remaining beast that looked on with amusement.
The werewolf didn’t seem the least bit concerned about the loss of its companions, perhaps it didn’t even consider them companions at first but whatever the case the werewolf’s strong confidence in its victory gave a strong oppressive feeling to anyone who saw him.
This strong oppression was not only a psychological effect given by the circumstances but true repression exerted on the weak by standing before the strong, only the electric mana that the werewolf emanated was enough to fry an ordinary human which already says enough about the werewolf strength.
That was why the werewolf found it quite interesting that a human dared to come out to challenge him, the werewolf would have understood if it was Rundert who appeared and would even have feared the presence of such a power had he encountered it when Rundert was at the peak of his strength but it was clear that the person who had come down from the north wall to confront him only had the rank of lieutenant.
“Grrrr To think there would be a human stupid enough to take me on.” From the werewolf’s dangerous jaws human words were uttered, these being a clear insult to the man in front of him.
“Well, now the dogs talk; anything is possible” With his characteristic smirk Desmond couldn’t help but make a sarcastic comment when he heard the werewolf’s insult.
GRRRRR*
A growl of disgust echoed briefly before the werewolf regained his composure and replied, “Human, consider yourself lucky to have the chance to die under the clutches of the great Keneth; It’s more than an inferior race like yours deserves.”
The sneer disappeared from Desmond’s face giving way to a smile that reeked of blood and murderous intent as a short reply came from Desmond: “Dog, consider yourself lucky if I end up wearing your fur as a cloak.”
Having been successfully provoked by Desmond calling him a dog for the second time, Keneth’s fur began to emit intense electrical flashes followed by an energetic burst after which Keneth disappeared.
This not being Desmond’s first time facing someone with such terrifying instantaneous speed, Desmond reflexively went into and used for just a fraction of a second to heighten his senses.
Sensing the static disturbance just to the left of him, Desmond deactivated and responded with a metallic mana-reinforced fist surrounded by a ring of condensed wind.
BOOM*
A shockwave spread out from the point of impact causing the ground to fragment and the surrounding snow to be pushed out, once the small chaos calmed down the image of a human and a beast facing each other appeared.
With his right fist firmly under the grip of Keneth’s claw, Desmond was forced to retreat a couple of steps to disperse the remaining impact force leaving deep tracks in the ground as he reinforced the metallic mana in his hand to prevent Keneth from tearing it apart.
This was only the first exchange between them, but it was clear that Keneth had the upper hand in terms of strength, even depending on Desmond’s physical strength simply wasn’t enough to go toe to toe with the werewolf.
Then Desmond saw Keneth’s smile turn wild and a bad feeling filled his heart, without a second thought, Desmond pushed a relentless surge of aquatic mana through his body just in time to block the electrical currents sent by Keneth.
Managing to use the water mana to channel and redirect most of the electrical current, lightning extended from where Desmond and Keneth’s fists met; Like snakes hungry for destruction, these lightning bolts destroyed everything for several meters around.
“I’m surprised you are not dead,” Keneth commented nonchalantly as his iron grip on Desmond’s hand tightened.
Not interested in losing his arm, Desmond created several rings of wind around his arm and guided these to be detonated within Keneth’s clenched fist, forcing the latter to release it with the shock wave.
Close, Desmond had been too close to death, he knew, had he reacted just a fraction of a second later, Keneth’s electrical currents would have shattered his arm completely before eating away at his heart and turning it into a piece of Coal. Keneth was strong, overwhelmingly strong, and yet for some reason, Desmond’s grin had only grown wilder and more aggressive.
