Chapter 177
“Who are you?” The old man was eyeing me warily. Even though he was still angry and had already got ready to attack me again, but he wasn’t fool to attack me blindly.
“Well, I want to ask you the same. Who are you? Since your minions attacked me, I am curious about you. Really.”
Was my expression convincing enough? I hope so.
The old man frowned as he heard my question. He might have not realized that his minions had attacked someone. Poor old man with poor memory.
“Do you recognize these?” I waved my hands and the ones I captured before appeared in front of me, being tied up and burned while wailing in pain.
The old man’s eyes widened. Of course he recognized them. He might have remembered what task he had given to these poor shadows that he shot menacing glare at me. His lips curled up in a sinister smile.
“It’s been years, I thought I would not have any chance to meet with him or his descendants. Since he is so sure in sending his own daughter to the forest, he must have some faith in you.” The old man sneered. I held the urge to roll my eyes hearing his gibberish. Wasn’t the fact I could find him a good enough proof that I wasn’t an average daughter?
“But, what can a kid like you do? Even if you are as talented as your father, I doubt you can defeat me. You’re too young for that.”
.....
This time, I didn’t hold back and openly rolled my eyes. This old man really had issues with his memories. Any sane man would be wary of me since I appeared out of nowhere in his supposedly private room. What’s more, I openly showed him that I had the ability to burn his minions, what talent did he want to see from me?
“Old man, are you sick?” I asked in a fake worry. “Or is it that your eyes can’t see clearly?”
“Impudent! How dare you talk to me like that?” He shouted in rage.
“Easy. There’s no need to shout. I am just asking.” I flinched in annoyance since his shout was really too loud. “How do you want me to talk to you? Soft and polite? I think I’m polite enough considering I don’t hit you or whatever.” I said casually.
“Kid, I’ll make you regret in coming here. Your lousy skill won’t be able to beat me.”
I nodded. Why did this old man talk too much? Was he stalling for time?
I looked at him carefully, trying to see any additional moves he made. And I was right. His left hand was holding a small statue. Not only that, I saw something was dripping from his hand. Since there was blood in the room already, I couldn’t tell whether there was additional blood in the room or not. But, I was one hundred percent sure that it was blood.
My guess was he purposely cut himself, only enough to draw blood and to soak the small statue with his blood. It might be the way he used to summon his ultimate shadow, to tell him that he was in danger.
I chuckled. He might not know that the one he was waiting for had been subdued by us.
“Old man, are you waiting for someone? It’s better for you to stop your bleeding, lest you’ll get sick from losing too much blood later. Should I help you summoning him here?” I asked with a smile on my face.
The color on his face drained as he heard what I said. His already old body trembled slightly, but I didn’t feel even an ounce of pity. He was this old already but he still chose to play with shadows. I didn’t even know how many humans had fallen victims in his hands. Why should I pity him?
I waved my hand again. A thin white smoke appeared and when it dissipated, I could see two figures inside. One was tied up in chains and cut a sorry figure, while the other one was standing upright, his white robe fluttered with the soft wind that carried them here. His expression was solemn but from his sharp eyes, I could see that he was doing great even though he had vomited his breakfast.
That was great! I had not had the chance to properly tend those two men since I needed to deal with this man as soon as possible, but seeing his well-beings brought relieved to me.
“You...” The old man looked shocked as he recognized the one in Tom’s hand. His body trembled even more that I was almost sure that he would have a heart attack.
If he really did have a heart attack, I would say ‘pathetic’. A sinner like him who had taken probably countless lives of people and then died because of heart attack, what a simple way of dying!
“He is the one you’re waiting for, right?” I smiled. “Now that you’ve met each other, any last words?”
“You... Who are you?” The old man’s voice was like a whisper as he stared at me in horror.
“Me? I thought you already knew it.” I walked towards him with a smile on my face. “I’m the one and only daughter of Farid Harris. You set up all those shadows for him, didn’t you? Or for anyone who had any blood relation with Farid Harris. Too bad, I’m not as weak as you think. So what if I’m just a kid? Can a kid do this?”
I snapped my fingers and the fire got even bigger and burned those shadows in a flash. His house, however, even though it was made from woods, didn’t show any trace of fire.
Even as the fire burned those wailing shadows, I kept my eyes on him, watched his expression closely. The fear started to cloud his eyes and his terrified expression was a sight to behold. I wish I could let his victims see his expression right now, that this heartless man could feel fear, too.
“As for that one...” I pointed at the man beside Tom. “I’ll let my General decide.”
