Chapter 111
No, no, no! I could distinguish the difference of rejecting the call and disconnecting by itself.
What had just happened was not because the call was too long to answer, but because it was rejected!
No!
Anxiously I tried to call the number again, but after three rings, it was rejected again!
I tapped open the message box and typed a short message for Uncle Ben.
‘Uncle, it’s me. Please, pick up the phone.’ Then, I pressed ‘Send’.
After sending the message, I waited for several seconds before I resumed calling him. But, my call was rejected again. I was starting to think that my uncle had changed his phone number and my call went to another person. My hope was crushed just like that, but a message came.
‘Who are you?’
.....
I widened my eyes. Didn’t I already say that it’s me? How could he ask me again?
I read my previous message three to four times until I finally realized the mistake I made.
“You’re stupid, Tom.” I mumbled to myself as I composed another message for him.
‘It’s Tom, your nephew. I need your help.’
This time, I didn’t have to wait long as a call came in. Only, it used an unfamiliar string of number. I thought that it was for Dr. Gwen, but because I was still waiting for Uncle Ben’s call, I decided to pick it up and inform Dr. Gwen later. Of course, I would apologize to the person on the other end of the call since it was not appropriate for me to pick any phone calls other than mine.
But, I was glad I picked it up. As soon as I heard the familiar voice calling out for my name came from the other end, I was near to tear up.
You’re a man, damn it!
But, I was not the only one who was on verge of tears. Even though he concealed it, I knew he was crying.
“Are you okay? Where are you?” He asked as soon as my call got through.
“Uncle, I’m fine now. I’m in a hospital in P City.” I told him briefly what had happened to me and to my surprise, Uncle Ben had already been in England for several days.
“I’m coming! Just wait for me!” He said. Before I could tell him that I needed money to pay for my treatment fees during my stay here in this hospital, Uncle Ben had hung up.
I stared at the phone, feeling speechless.
Whatever, I could just ask him directly.
After that, I practically had nothing to do. Staring at the ceiling, I was wondering what Jane was doing. I wonder if that jerk had been making some move on her.
Only the thought of it made me frowned in displeasure. How can I contact her to inform her that I am okay?
As I drowned myself in thought, I noticed some uninvited entities had come into my sight. One of them was a soldier in his uniform, blood seeped from the invisible wound in his head, creating a small red river on his face but he seemed oblivious to it. The other was a kid around nine years old, with red hair in two pig tails, her eyes were the most noticeable in her. She had different eye colors, the left one was in warm hazel and the right one was blue. She had two noticeable dimples in her cheeks as she was smiling so brightly when she saw me looking at her. The last one was an old man in casual clothes. His wrinkled face showed no emotion but his eyes was penetrating through me. I didn’t know what he was seeing in me.
There was no visible wounds on both the old man and the girl. I wonder what caused their death?
“I know you can see us, boy.” The old man said. There was no malicious intent from the way he spoke, so I assumed he didn’t mean harm. He also didn’t show any emotion.
“Yes.” I nodded. “Do you need anything?”
“No.” They shook their heads. “We were attracted to your aura, that’s why we came to see you.” The old man continued.
“What’s wrong with my aura? Is there something special about it?”
“You have an aura of people who have sixth sense, but somehow yours is thicker and also a bit different.”
“Usually, it is easy for us to possess the person with your aura, but I can’t even see where I should begin to. The usual entrance people in your kind possess are not there. I don’t know where to start sneaking into your body.” The soldier frowned as he moved to inspect my body.
“Bloody old man, don’t disturb him! Move away! You’re hindering my sight!” The little girl shouted cheekily.
“Little Girl, don’t be so rude.” The soldier looked at her in displeasure.
The little girl harrumphed slightly and floated towards me. Her eyes sparked with interest as she inspected my body eager than the soldier.
Watching them looking at me like I was some specimen, I couldn’t help but feel speechless and dumbfounded.
Why do I think that these three came here for different purpose?
“Don’t bother about their antics. Unless you can move, I doubt you can get away from these two.” The old man appeared suddenly beside my bed with his hands behind him. “But, I’m a bit curious about you, too, actually.”
“...”
The little girl was still arguing with the soldier, leaving me with the old man in a conversation. But, why did I feel like I was close to being their experiment?
Then, I heard the little girl said “Say, what is this chain in your legs?”
