Chapter 48 (XLVIII) Berserk
"Surrender!!!" Viktoria yelled as she rushed forward, swinging her rapier through the air as she slashed at Jackson, who deflected the attack with his left sword; then he kicked off the ground, jumping into the air, and swung his right blade, slashing the air and creating a shockwave that pushed her back.
"Viktoria!! It\'s over!!! Surrender!" Jackson shouted, lightning dancing around his body as he dashed around her, brief afterimages appearing continuously circling her wild swings.
"Shut up!!!" Viktoria screamed as she slashed her rapier in the opposite direction, but Jackson pulled his left sword back and slashed the air, creating another shockwave that sent her reeling. Electricity crackled around his arms and legs as he vanished, blitzing her from every direction.
"Surrender!!!" Jackson shouted angrily, a trio of his afterimages rushing toward her and vanishing as she swung her rapier horizontally.
Viktoria thrust her rapier around her, unable to land an attack as Jackson slashed the air repeatedly, creating shockwaves that smashed into her causing her to stumble with each hit.
She quickly turned around and slashed her rapier toward him, but his afterimage attempted to deflect it but vanished as he appeared behind her, cutting the air with his left sword, sending a shockwave that knocked her to her knees.
"GRRRAAAAHHHH!!!!" She screamed in frustration, clouds quickly swirling above the arena as it started to snow violently in the coliseum. The ice encasing her left arm shattered as she dropped her rapier and buckler, screaming in anger once more, sending a shockwave that pushed Jackson and the dozen Burning Dawn Climbers who had leaped into the arena away, slamming into the coliseum walls, cracks spiderwebbing around their bodies.
A cyclone formed with Viktoria in the eye, the snow pelting her body and freezing as her body became encased in a massive frozen dragon with her body sleeping in the dragon\'s chest.
The dragon slowly rose into the air, its wings flapping as it circled the arena, and the wind howled as it flew over the audience.
"Shit!" Ramus shouted as he braced against the powerful winds, "Quick!!! Get the audience out of here!! Get all available Climbers here NOW!! He shouted as two men ran down the stairs to complete his orders.
He pulled off the decorative robes he was wearing over his armor and grabbed his massive greatsword, leaping through the air, swinging the sword vertically, slamming against the back of the dragon, knocking it to the ground with a powerful strike.
The dragon roared, and the ground beneath Viktoria rumbled, and she opened her mouth as a subzero beam of ice shot from her mouth toward Ramus.
Ramus\' eyes widened, and he blocked with his sword, his eyes glowing red as his blade burst into flames. The beam struck his greatsword, and the fire began freezing and falling to the ground as he roared loudly, the flames burning hotter and began pushing the freezing beam back.
He spun during his descent, destroying the beam of ice and launching a gigantic shockwave of flames toward the dragon, hitting her in the head and causing a massive explosion, covering the entire coliseum in an enormous smokescreen.
"What the hell was that?!" Jackson shouted as he landed on his feet, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the area.
"Stay back!! She went berserk!" Ramus landed on his feet, his sword still ablaze, and he placed it on his shoulder, staring toward the colossal cloud of smoke; flashes of red brightly illuminated from within, rapidly appearing and disappearing as the black smoke billowed away.
The dragon roared as the ice began shattering and falling to the ground, the wings, arms, and legs crushing under the weight of the ice, breaking the body as Viktoria fell to the ground, her limbs encased in ice as it slowly started growing along her body once more.
Ramus dashed toward her, slashing his sword across one of her frozen arms, breaking the ice and grabbing her arm, slamming his blade down into the ground next to both of them as the flames engulfed them both, melting the ice away as she slumped in his arms.
Jackson watched the unconscious Viktoria from afar; his eyes narrowed as he focused on her face, thinking, \'So that was going berserk, huh..?\'
Losing oneself under the weight of their powers is not something most standard Climbers have to worry about as they are not utilizing Heirloom Abilities passed down through a family and honed through hundreds of generations.
When a Climber goes berserk, the powers gained from their unique familial skillbooks overwhelm their senses and will take on a form commonly known with that family. Jackson recalled the words in his father\'s journal and shuddered, hoping never to experience it firsthand.
"Holy shit! I don\'t know how Zaxocid is going to bounce back... Vayne... He... He lost it during a sparring match, and out of nowhere, he turned into this massive black hydra and destroyed half of Edgetown!! After he woke up, he told me he went berserk because of his skills!
What a great way to join Tetraktys!!! The Climber\'s Associated banned us from the entire eastern continent!! We can\'t even operate there anymore!! He says he will handle everything, but I need to find out... I may have to talk to some of the other council members and get this corrected before something worse happens.
No one ever told me this! We lost half of the guild overnight, half of our income, and I had to call in favors from everyone!! You must be careful at all times, Jax!! Never give into our family\'s arts... I fear there might be no coming back if we were to ever give into their powers."
Moments later, Viktoria\'s eyes shot open, and she quickly looked around, broke herself free, and raised her rapier toward Ramus; a look of confusion spread across her face, "W- Wh- What..? What happened???"
"I\'m sorry, Viktoria... You went berserk, and we had to intervene... You lost the exhibition match." Ramus explained, giving her a sympathetic look.
