Chapter 866 T.D.O.N.B: Clash Of Two Spirits
I have no idea why, but for some reason, he decided it was good timing to make his move. He rushed forward, then striker normally with his spear, but it got blocked. Leonel started moving forward to get into a close enough distance to strike with his sword, but Aaden only began his complicated attack.
He was slightly retreating but trusting and slashing with the spearhead. His speed was only increasing, and soon all we could see was a blur producing constant bright orange sparkles, while the rumble created by banging two pieces of metal against one another was only getting louder.
Is awfully started to would like shooting with a machine gun.
- That's not good - I said because I noticed something which a few seconds later became clear to everybody.
The spread of range his speed had access to, increased. It started to bend itself around the shield, and slowly, but surely it was about to reach Leonel. He noticed, and his reaction was to retreat slowly, but this only encouraged Aaden to follow him and strike harder.
- Do something! - John said, clearly directing those words to my son.
Leonel wasn't stupid, and he knew that much. The problem was that his speed was nowhere near close to his opponent's. He had strength and stamina, so he could pack a punch, but lacked the dexterity to switch his grip around the word handle, to create combos.
For me it was obvious what he should, do, and we even practiced it, but the actual combat is much different than training.
Then I noticed my son's footwork changing. he dug deep with his feet to suddenly rush forward, straight at Aaden, which surprised him a bit. Then Leonel swung his shield, but the other guy had a clever way to react. He leaned back, using his spear to support himself, then stepped on the shield, and kicked off it as it was about to slam into him, then went flying through the air, to land with grace over a dozen meters further.
A cherry on top was a cheeky chuckle.
My son made mistake. He allowed this taunt to get to him, and swing his sword. The wind blade created by his attack plowed through the air, reaching Aaden, who blocked it. This stopped his laughter, but he definitely recognized that Leonel wasn't on top of his game.
- Calm down - I hissed at the TV.
There was no way he could hear it, so he continued with a stupid attack. He went to one knee and jammed his sword into the ground. The red dragon left his body, diving into the ground.
Aaden knew this attack already quite well. Actually better than I was willing to give him credit for. He immediately started running, so he escaped before the spirit emerged from the ground to bite the air in the place he stood a moment before.
He laughed loudly before, to my surprise, summoning his own spirit. A blue armor assembled around him, it was very much Japanese style, with a traditionally looking mask for a face. Two curved fangs were sticking out of the fake mouth.
With this reinforcement, he trusted his spear, making the spirit do the same, and from the end of his weapon, a ball of swirling blue energy shot out.
Leonel immediately used his shield to block it. The projectile hit him, and spread around like a flame, licking his shoulders, before disappearing in the air.
Since I was observing the fight from a distance, for me it was obvious that this attack was only a distraction, but for Leonel, it was much harder to notice, since he practically blocked his vision for a moment to block the attack.
This gave his opponent room for a charge. He ran at full speed, then jumped into the air. My son peaked from behind his protection and noticed him. He raised the shield at the last moment before the spear fell down on him.
The powerful slam shook the arena, spraying the sand around, and spiritual fire licked the shield again, but Leonel withstood it. The defense was something he was definitely not lacking.
He swing with the shield, throwing away the spear, then trusted up, setting the spirit to follow his strike. Aaden twisted his body, avoiding the blade and the dragon's toothy maw by a single hair.
It actually brushed against his armor, pushing him further away. Obviously, my son noticed, so he responded by puking a cloud of fire, that poured down on the sand, enveloping his opponent completely. He escaped from it by tumbling, but he definitely got hit. A bit of his hair was burned off, leaving places where the skin was peeking out.
Not to mention his angry face. He ended up sliding on the sand to lose the kinetic energy, and the fight slowed down once again. This time, Leonel was the one smiling, but he didn't go further than that.
"I need to teach him how to fuck with your opponent. How to taunt them, and throw them off your game, because this kid really is clueless", I thought to myself, then sighed.
- What? - Celestine asked immediately.
I noticed that she was so nervous that she was biting on her nails.
- Nothing. Don't do that, please - I said to her, and grabbed her hand.
She pulled it back, as she realized what she was doing.
Then I focused once again on the TV screen, where both Aaden and Leonel were slowly moving, trying to circle around one another, which couldn't work. They were carefully watching, looking for an opening while thinking about their strategy.
My son decided to move first after a few seconds. He slammed the edge of the shield into the ground, then hit its side with the side of his sword, and brought it down a little, so the sword reached the middle, striking sparks as it went down.
A burst of shimmering energy came out of his body. It was gold, and glowing with power. A smirk appeared on my face, as I quickly glanced at everybody else in the room. Their eyes were wide open, as they have never seen him use this skill before.
