Chapter 654 Days UNKNOWN: The First Hunt, Part I
My first hunt after the break started very early. The rest was still asleep when I snuck out and entered a completely new gate, hoping for a quick finding to provide The Great One with a crystal, so he would be able to restore his powers. We needed him to reach the High Queen, as he was the only powerful psionic in our group.
The place I entered was strange. The local star was hanging directly above the city of broad roads, railings climbing the slim, tall buildings, and a lot of green vegetation clearly grown as decoration in the concrete jungle. The wide gaps between the pieces of architecture made it look deserted, weirdly empty.
Occasionally a round drone with a single optical instrument would hover over my head as I started walking through those streets, looking around carefully, hoping to spot a ghost, so I could finally put my powers to use. I wouldn't admit that, but I was watching for some action. I had plenty of it recently, but still, it was different with my abilities back.
I couldn't help myself but really wanted to experience the dynamics of instant relocation, and all the magic or skills I could use. That was the only thing that was filling my mind at that very moment. But you rarely get what you want in the way you want it, and that day was one of those. I even used 'Eyes of the Void' to search around, but there was just nothing.
I have to admit, that after a few hours of intense search, I grew frustrated that there were no ghosts anywhere I looked, so I ended up giving to my emotion and cranked up the speed a little bit. With this, I was able to cover more ground, but I was also making much more noise, which could potentially lure too many enemies. I knew that I could take care of myself, so I took the risk.
To not prolong needlessly, It took me quite a long time, to finally found one roaming the very far outskirts of that massive city. He spotted me first, but when he threw a massive clever at me, with a lot of power behind it, I spotted him too.
Using 'Shadow walk' I avoided the weapon, landing in the middle of the street. The weapon, as it missed me, got immediately retracted through the strange power many of those ghosts possessed, even before it smashed into the ground.
He had some dark rags on. The head was hidden deep under the hood.
When I looked its way properly, the creature was already charging directly at me, rising big amounts of dust behind itself, as it was quite fast. It grabbed its sword, slowing only a little bit, and kept pushing forward. I waited patiently, but when the concrete around me began breaking up under my feet and making space for very sharp stones that pierced through, trying to kill me, I decided it was time to start moving.
I began by 'Shadow walking' to the side, then I used 'Shadow fusion', making the void essence directly flow through me. My body transformed, the veins became black, just like my lips, hair, and nails, then my skin also changed its color to more ash-like. I could feel the incredible strength cursing through my entire person.
It took only a split second, so there was plenty of time to invoke other skills. 'Void domain' made the whole world around me explode with the smoke-like essence, which began making its way through. 'Void winds' stirred them and raised the tall walls of swirling, dense void essence all around me, on the distant horizon.
Then I just leaped forward, charging at my opponent. The mere jump was like an explosion. Shattering the ground under my feet, the shockwave made the nearby building crumble.
Then I punched, and that asshole blocked it somehow with his sword, but the power behind my fist was so immense, that he got thrown into the air like a toy kicked by a child. His flight was almost horizontal, very close to the ground, so he managed to land on it, not losing any balance, while sliding furder, because of the force still pushing him. To lose it, he jammed his sword into the broad street, decimating it.
In my eyes, it only made him slow. I leaped forward, once again utilizing my immense speed, and caught up to him before he even managed to stop. It was easy to grab the handle of this sword and push it deeper into the ground, while still holding the bony hands in place. This made him unable to block, and my right fist came swinging just after. It plowed the air, creating a pressure that was annoying even for me, and I wasn't the one being punched.
When it reached him, the blast was so powerful we both ended up being thrown in opposite ways, but contrary to me, he turned into black smoke, and I still had to figure out a way to stop myself.
Not having my powers for such a long time, a had a moment of brain lag, but as it passed, I 'Shadow walked' again, and landed safely on the ground. Then I went to pick up the crystal left by the ghost with a massive smile on my face.
The fight was short, and very weird because I needed time to get used to all the possibilities I now had. Before, I had to rely on reflexes, speed, and strength. It lasted for so long, that my first thoughts during the battle were far from optimal. I no longer had to rely on conventional methods to lose the kinetic force or avoid attacks, but in the heat of a fight, it wasn't so obvious for me.
I needed some time to regain what I lost. I killed the active skills, making the shadow essence around me slowly disappear, like dark smoke on the wind. Then I 'Shadow walked' once again, landing back in Loistavadvaar.
