Chapter 579
New place, but the morning looked the same, although moods were a bit better than throughout a couple of last days.
Will, although he started his preparations quite late, was ready very quickly, since he didn't have to put on his equipment at all. He entered the arena activating the skills, and for the second time, we saw the glorious white full plate armor assembling over his body. The gold decorations shined bright in the strong sunlight of the morning.
He then summoned two enormous shields on both his left and right, to finally allow the claymore to drift down from the sky surrounded by a ray of blinding light pouring down from the sky.
Lastly, he summoned the thirteen swords behind himself, which formed an arch.
Then he gave a respectful nod to Ashal Kal Anur, who answered in the same manner, smiling a bit. Zor'xal clearly didn't like it, and he yelled at the people in his entourage. Some of them ran, probably to fulfill the tasks they just got from the emperor.
She clearly came to watch the fight with us.
We had to wait a few minutes, but finally, Will's opponent also entered the arena. It was a rather large creature of the strange physique. Triangle-shaped torso, with broad shoulders and two sets of arms. One was normal, the other was way smaller, and coming from its stomach area. They brought an image of a T-rex to my mind.
The alien's skin was deep brown, and the head was even stranger than the body. It had two eyes. Very big ones, starting around the cheekbones area and going all the way above the forehead. They seemed to be covered in a diamond-shaped net, that had to be a part of the natural physique. The best thing I can compare it to is the eyes of a fly.
There was no hair on the head, just a strange bone structure that kinda looked like scales with skin on top. The creature had no nose, but there was a small mouth with a long upper lip covering it completely.
It was breathing through gills-like holes on the neck.
It had a white uniform with stripes of blue and red. It looked like the alien wasn't carrying any weapon. At least I couldn't see any.
The alien stopped in the middle of his half of the field and tilted it hed slightly looking at Will, who seemed completely relaxed. Such a strange physique wasn't any longer arousing his curiosity. He saw too much strange stuff already, and also, probably, was completely focused on achieving victory.
The gong sound started the fight, and in a split of a second everything changed. The eyes of the creature flashed with red, just as the human lowered himself to charge. The alien flew backward at a very high speed, quickly accelerating.
As Will took the first step a swirling tornado of flames surrounded him completely. A loud roar filled the arena, and the sand around our friend turned into glass, which got twisted because of the air current.
Despite all of that Will emerged from the fire, blasting through the air, and ripping apart the swirling flames. He landed on the ground surrounded by the blades forming loose wings on his back, and he swung widely at the creature
There was an explosion in front of the creature, just when a deep cut appeared at the wall surrounding the arena just behind the alien. It was supposed to block the pressure, sent by the blade. It worked as the mercenary emerged on the opposite side of it twisting the small hands in some strange gestures as the upper lip tensed, revealing two large teeth pointed upwards.
At the same time, a set of hundreds of explosions shook the arena, all of them were placed around Will, who for a moment finished it a still expanding cloud of flames.
- It awfully looks like fire magic user - said Adam.
- Its pyrokinesis - said Katri Xel Avakadaisu. - Many races can use it, but I've never seen it begin this powerful. I only heard stories of some parts of the Ixan army, where the troops apparently were strong enough to set the whole planet on fire, but those were just stories, so I'm not sure there is any truth to that. Maybe the high queen herself could do it.
Just as she said that a ray of light slammed into the ground where Will was supposed to stand, and tore through the flames revealing the human, slowly levitating into the sky, as a pair of white wings made out of light appeared on his back. The loud humming sound overwhelmed even the roar of raging flames and the sounds of explosions.
Alien twisted his hands and sent a ray of blinding energy at him, but that was easily deflected by one of the shields, which quickly materialized itself to protect the paladin.
The creature got even angrier, and the moves became faster. The effect was quite devastating. A sphere of spinning fire assembled around the human, completely covering him despite all of his glory. It was quite large, but tensed quickly, increasing its speed. The sound of humming stopped, and the roar of devastating fire returned.
The sand on the ground was melting into a glass, creating a twister underneath the ball. Alien screamed trying to push his abilities to the limit. It was hard to look like because the light coming out of the sphere became brighter and brighter.
Then adam looked at me for answers, as concern was painted all over his face.
The situation of our friend changed in a span of a few seconds. Now people weren't so sure about Will's victory anymore.
Even Atri peaked at me, following the fire mage's gaze, but I didn't respond.. I had a strong faith in William's skills.
