Chapter 89 - New Life

Sarah Harding opened the door. "Please come inside," she told the guest.

Sir Nicholas went inside to check the house. It was clean but lacking with furniture. He settled himself on the wooden chair.

The boy Nicholas went to his grandfather's side.

Sir Nicholas picked up the boy and placed him on his lap.

Sarah put baby Nikka in a wooden crave.

"How many months you have not paid the rent?" Sir Nicholas asked.

"Two months, Sir," replied Sarah shyly.

Sir Nicholas took out his wallet from the pocket of his trouser and produced paper bills. "Here, pay the two months rent and keep the change," he said.

Sarah accepted the money wide-eyed.

"Where does the owner of this house live?" he asked.

"He's living in the same area, ten houses from here," she replied.

"Okay, leave now and pay the rent and tell the owner, you are going to vacate this place today," he said.

"Huh?" Sarah's eyes widened in surprise. "B-but Sir, the children and I... have no other home to go to..." she protested.

Sir Nicholas sighed, he understood very well the woman's fear. "No need to worry about rent from now on. I will bring you and the kids to one of my properties. You will live there without worrying about the monthly rental. I will provide food and shelter for you and the kids. You don't have to worry about money anymore, all you have to do is take care of my grandchildren, be the best mother to them, and I will take care of the rest. I promise to take care of you and my grandchildren for life, but I can't persuade my son to marry you. Now you have to choose... you will stay here and worry about everything...or stay in my property, and you don't have to worry about a single thing... please choose wisely..." he said.

Sarah was silent for a moment, debating on what to do. Honestly, she was fed up with her life in poverty. It's already hard that she was taking care of two kids, at the same time worrying about finding daily food sustenance for them, and worst the monthly rental for the house is making her crazy. Then if her children got sick, she can't even buy medicine because she has no money!

She tired sick of poverty! She doesn't like to be tortured emotionally and mentally every day. She can't survive like this!

She needs to breathe...

Now that it comes to this...after Cooper abandoned them... he can no longer blame her for taking the initiative to end her misery. After all, it's the future of their children that is at stake for her. She will fight for her children's future! And now that the golden opportunity presented itself in front of her, she would be stupid not to grab it!

"Yes, I will accept your offer, Sir! The children and I are willing to live in your property," Sarah said brightly.

Sir Nicholas was pleased with her decision.

"Good! Now you go to the owner's house and pay the rent. Then return here and pack your things. I will bring you to my property after you are done packing. I will assign two servants to help you around the house. It's a bit bigger than these, it's a two-story bungalow house and has five rooms on the second floor and also has a servants room on the first floor. There is a wide lawn outside the house for the children to play and roam around. I'm sure you will like it there..." he paused for a moment to catch his breath and then continue.

"Because you are willing to follow my order, and for being a good mother to my grandchildren, I will reward you greatly. I will transfer the rights of that property to your name. As for the children, you don't have to worry about their future because they will inherit some of my fortunes and I will send them to the best school, they will carry my family name. Their bright future is already guaranteed the moment you leave this place," he said for good measure.

Sarah was speechless...

Tears of happiness sprang in her eyes. It's hard to believe that her life was forever changed in just a few hours! Now she will become a proud owner of a property under her name. She will live in a big house with a big lawn, accompanied by two servants and she doesn't have to worry about money and her children's future anymore! Oh my, it feels like it's a dream come true!

She was completely blown away by extreme happiness! It's all too much to handle!

She broke down in front of Cooper's father, she began crying hard and then smiled after. She was a jumbled mess of emotion.

Sir Nicholas understood the woman's feelings, she was overwhelmed by the abrupt changes in her life. He stood up carrying the boy in his arms. "Take your time...we will wait outside the house," he said and left.

He joined Graven sitting on the wooden bench under the shade of the tree.

"How it's going, father?" Graven asked curiously.

Sir Nicolas sighed. "I give the poor woman some money to settle the two months delayed rent of this place. I offered her one of my properties, the one I recently bought at the other end of the town. As a gift, I will transfer the property's ownership to her. I will take care of their daily sustenance, provide them servants and take care of the children's education, after all, they are my family. They are my grandchildren..." he explained. He looked at his son's eyes. "Do you think I made the best decision, son?" he asked for his opinion.

Graven smiled. "Father, you did the right thing! I agree with your decision," he said and gave him a thumb up.

Sir Nicholas smiled. He's getting older and he might die anytime, at least he still has a few years left to get to know his grandchildren and enjoyed their presence in his life, then he will die a happy man. As a man who is nearing his end, he just wants to bond with the children as many times as he can while he still has strength left in his body.

Then his face turned serious. "If for some unforeseen reason - I will die anytime..." he paused for a moment. "Son, I want you to secure my grandchildren's future. I can't wait for Cooper to mature. He has no sense of responsibility. Can I count on you regarding this matter?"

"Sure! No problem, Father. I'll take care of them, I will be their loving uncle," Graven promised.

"Good, my mind is already at peace," Sir Nicholas said.

A few seconds of silence passed between them.

Graven cleared his throat. "How about Laura and the wedding? We will hide the truth from her? I think she deserves to know the truth," he expressed his opinion.

Sir Nicholas breathed deeply. "Regarding that issue...I still need to think about that problem thoroughly. I need a few days to figure out the right solution for everything. In the meantime, we will settle Sarah and the children in their new environment, that's our main concern for today. Once everything falls into place, let's discuss Laura and Cooper's problem later," he said.

"Okay, Father," Graven replied.

"Once Sarah and the kids are settled properly into their new home. We will bring Cooper to see his children and discuss what the arrangement will be - then we will continue from there," Sir Nicholas said.

Graven nods his head. "Alright, I agree... we can't solve all problems in one go. Solving one problem at a time is a better way to handle this sensitive issue," Graven said.

A few minutes later.

Sarah left the house and went to pay the rent and informed the owner that she and her children will vacate the place today.

When she returned to the house, Cooper's father was still holding her son protectively. She did the right thing today! Going to the mansion where Cooper lives takes all her guts and courage, it produces a good result though. Because tonight, she was already determined to end her life and her kids, but God finally took pity on her pathetic condition and showed her the light at the end of a dark tunnel.

She entered the house and packed all their meager belongings. It took her just one hour to finish packing everything.

She sipped a glass of water in the tiny kitchen and exited the house. "I'm done packing, Sir!" she said.

Sir Nicholas looked at the driver of the carriage. "Bring all her things inside the carriage. Leave the tables, chairs, and others... we don't need them in the new place," he ordered.

"Yes, Sir!" the driver replied and entered the house.

Fifteen minutes later, the driver had finished putting everything in the carriage.

"Let's go!" Graven said.

Sarah and the kids entered the carriage - followed by Sir Nicholas and Graven.

The carriage starts moving away from the wooden house going to the new property where Sarah and her children will start a new phase of their life.
