Chapter 255 - Heartwarming Scene
Chapter 255 - Heartwarming Scene
Everyone under the canopy was stunned by what they had witnessed that it left them dazed for a few seconds after the two children had stopped moving.
*Claps*
The sound of the clapping of hands brought them back to their senses as they turned towards the source of the applause.
At the corner of the canopy, they found the old maid who took care of the daughter of the St. Claire's family clapped her hands in celebration of the victory of her Miss.
Feeling the multiple pairs of eyes aimed at her, Mrs. Jacinth realized what she had done and stopped clapping as she lowered her head in apology for acting out of turn.
'I was overjoyed to see Young Miss' victory that I forgot all rules of propriety.' She cursed her eager heart for committing this offense in the presence of not only the Earl and Countess but also the other noblemen.
Howard, Rutheford, and Raylene were not annoyed with her out of turn behavior, instead, the Countess smiled and nodded in approval of her actions.
Mrs. Jacinth breathed a sigh of relief and bowed in gratitude to her Madam.
The next round of applause was initiated by Butler Limo and soon, everyone who had awakened from their stupor began clapping along with him.
'What the hell just happened!?' Marquess Samed stared wide-eyed at the training grounds as he tried to comprehend what had just taken place.
The people around him had begun rising from their seats and walking towards the two children in the center of the ground which prompted him to follow them as well.
Yvonne stepped away from her brother who was frozen in the same spot and looked up when she noticed many people walking towards their position.
The first face she noticed in the crowd was the man who had trained her which had helped her succeed today.
"Did you see what I did there!?" She questioned with an excited chirp in her voice.
How could the Captain not notice the tricks she had played to confuse her brother and thus win this trial?
He had watched her keenly and had witnessed how she had used his lesser powerful side to aim her attack which brought her the win.
Hence, he nodded his head with a tinge of pride apparent in his eyes as he stepped towards her.
"You did well." He acknowledged the efforts she had put into her preparations for this event.
His hand which was about to reach her head to give her an appreciative pat, halted when he felt a heated gaze falling on him.
'Overprotective.' He sneered at his old friend who was glaring at him with vicious eyes.
'Get your filthy hands away from my Vonna!' The Earl's thoughts were evident on his face.
Yvonne did not bother with this as she too would have been annoyed at getting head pats from the Captain.
Turning around, she faced her elder brother who stood at the same spot as earlier.
Earlier, she had sneak attacked him and declared that she had won due to the conditions that he had placed for the final trial.
'You win if one of these two situations arises.' Howard had informed her before they began their sparring match.
The first condition was if she could withstand the attacks and complete the duration of ten minutes of the final trial.
While the second condition was that the trial would end once the vital targets of the participant were attacked by the opposition.
Yvonne had won the trial by using the second condition as she had aimed her sword and pressed it down on his neck which was considered to be a vital and lethal target.
'Neck, chest, and stomach.' She recalled the three spots he had mentioned before the trial.
However, Howard had never expected that she would actually be able to attack any one of his vital areas.
He was under the impression that if she ever won the trial it would be due to the first condition, continuing the trial for the entire duration that had been decided.
Now he stood before her, defeated by the second condition which was a surprise to him as well.
'He needs to declare the results.' She stared at him, awaiting his words that would decide her fate.
Howard snapped out of his reverie when he found that everybody was looking at him and in return, his eyes fixed on his little sister.
"You fooled me with that last attack." He spoke without letting any fluctuations appear in his tone.
Yvonne had indeed tricked him by acting out of the usual course of action that should have been taken in that situation.
"Your opponent won't declare where he will attack next. Keep your eyes open for sudden attacks." She quoted her trainer and looked in the Captain's direction.
Captain Desmo nodded in acknowledgment of what she had said.
"What is your answer, Howard?" Rutherford inquired after Desmo nodded.
In response, Howard alternated his gaze between the trainer and trainee before focusing his sights on the little girl who had been his opponent for the day.
"Yvonne St. Claire has won the last trial after fulfilling the second condition." He announced in a loud voice.
Not only did he nod in appreciation, but he also raised his hand and patted her head affectionately.
The pain she was feeling all over her body seemed to have vanished at that moment when she felt his first-ever kind gesture he had shown towards her.
'Ever since I came to this world, he had always been guarded and distant towards me.' She recalled as her eyes widened in surprise.
Looking at her wide eyes which stared at him unblinkingly and her jaw which had dropped due to his unexpected actions, the young boy let out a soft chuckle.
"So cute…" His mutters further surprised the people around them.
The parents had expressions of joy on their faces when they saw their children's interactions.
Taylor wiped his imaginary tears as he gazed at this heartwarming scene before his eyes.
'My boy is finally growing up!' He rejoiced like an old grandmother as he watched the siblings' awkward yet sweet behavior.
He knew that his friend did not hate his sister, he only had a strange grudge against her which Taylor could not comprehend where and why it had originated.
Though now it appeared to have lessened by a considerable amount as Howard had taken the first step towards her which was a reason for him to rejoice.
While this touching moment was taking place between the siblings of the St. Claire family, there was someone who was itching to speak up.
"Miss St. Claire did not win by fulfilling the second condition!" Marquess Sullivan Samed blurted out when he could no longer keep this information inside his stomach.
Yvonne, who was enjoying the pats she was receiving, almost fell to the ground when she heard her tutor's hasty words.
'What did he just say about me!?' She glowered and turned to face the man who was ruining her moment.
Marquess Samed gulped when he caught sight of the ferocious glares of multiple people.
Almost everyone present there was glaring at him with the only exception of Damien who stood without any expression on his face.
'You two are my nephew so why are you glaring at me!?' Sullivan scoffed at the Tanner boys who had similar expressions of anger on their faces.
