The extortion ability that Milo just unlocked allowed him to wield two abilities at once. This was a massive boost to his power as he could combine abilities on the fly. He could picture many different things in his head, the one he thought could be coolest involved him wielding fire and ice at the same time like some sort of half and half type user. When thinking of how it applied to him, Milo could now use his newest ability, Hunter's Eye, to view the weak points of opponents while using ice spears to strike at them, or even keep his body reinforced at all times while wielding his Ice, making him more strong and durable than he already was without the ability.
Milo wanted to test the new skill but would have to sneak somewhere else to test it. It also seemed that unlike his Fusion skill, which only had one level and was already maxed, his new Extortion skill said it was level one, which made Milo wonder what increasing its level would do.
His new extortion skill also caused new description boxes to pop up next to the skills. It labeled his first two skills as active skills, most likely meaning that he had to activate them voluntarily like he had in the past. Extortion was instead labeled as a passive skill, from this Milo could only guess that this meant he could always activate two abilities at once without having to think about activating a separate skill first. There was also no cooldown on the skill.
Not able to wait anymore, Milo snuck out of his room while his roommates slept and went up to the roof of his dorm building. Once he got there, Milo checked to make sure no one had followed him up there, once he determined that he was in the clear, Milo began to activate his reinforce ability, he could feel the magical power reinforcing his muscles and making him stronger, he then attempted to form an ice spear, it took a bit longer than usual to form the ice into the shape he wanted, but he successfully used both the reinforce ability, as well as the ice ability simultaneously.
"Hah, hahah, it actually worked," he said.
There was definitely a learning curve with using two abilities at once, it required much more concentration than before, but being able to use both abilities simultaneously would prove to be a massive increase to his power. After trying a few more times to increase the formation speed of his ice ability while using another ability, Milo made great strides increasing the speed but was still a long way off from if he was using the ice ability on its own.
With his experimenting done, Milo made his way back down to his room and got into bed, while he was excited about his new skill, he had to make sure he had enough rest for his practical exam in the morning. After a few minutes Milo nodded off.
Waking up the next morning, Milo met up with Zach and Waki and made their way down to the practical training room. After changing they went out to the main practice room where the exam would be taking place. Once all the X ranked students arrived, Ms. Teller arrived and informed all the students of who their opponents would be, unlike in the past, Zach would be taking part today, due to the exam taking both combat and ability use into account, due to Waki's young age however, Zach chose to let him watch the exams take place.
Waki had become quite a popular little guy since his first appearance in class, and thanks to that Zach wasn't dealing with as much bullying as before. For the exam he had already found a place to watch and funnily enough it was on Mikael's shoulder who would be acting a judge. It was quite the awkward sight, seeing Mikael, who everyone knew as a force to be reckoned with and even beasts feared being so buddy buddy with the little bird.
Milo's opponent was luckily no one he had been teamed up with for the in field experience, it also wasn't anyone he had heard of before. Due to this, he was unsure what the student looked like. His opponent's first name was Tyler but their ability hadn't been revealed to make it as raw of a battle as possible.
Searching through the different students with his inspect skill, Milo was searching trying to find out what his opponent looked like as well as what their ability would be. Eventually he had found the student, he was a smaller student who was holding a spear, and had a few pieces of armor that his family had probably given him.
Milo hadn't noticed the student before, he was quite small and scrawny, with a mop of dark hair on his head. After opening the inspect screen he took a look at his information:
[Tyler Abbot]
Ability: Density
Status: Healthy
Relationship: Classmate
Target is currently thinking about who his opponent is
[clear]
When seeing his ability, Milo drew a blank on what the ability did, he used the system to gather more information about it, and seeing what it did was interesting. Density allowed the user to change their own density, making them heavier or lighter and in turn it would also make them more durable. Due to this, Milo could see Tyler having a high defense. He wasn't sure if there were any uses offensively for the ability, but he still decided to be cautious going into this match up, just in case Tyler had something up his sleeve.
Zach's opponent was a student with the telekinesis ability, this would make it an annoying match for Zach, but he was sure he could pull something out. After finding out who their opponents would be, Milo and the rest of the students made their way off to the side to allow for the matches to begin. Ms. Teller would be refereeing and the judges included Mikael and two other instructors at the school. Mikael seemed gitty about watching the matches, he had always been a bit eccentric and seeing him excited to watch the matches made Milo chuckle, as it fit Milo's opinion of Mikael to a tee.
A few minutes later, once everything was set, the exams began, seeing the matches going on, Milo was impressed to see how the different students of the X ranked class fought while using their abilities, he knew how most of the students were based on the practical class and combat class, but this would be the first time he would see people using them in tandem.
As the matches went on he was able to pick up on some things he hadn't noticed before when watching his teammates from the in field experience. This was the first time he had really gotten to examine how Luke fought, as he was in a support role during their expedition into a gate a rarely got into the action. He used a one handed sword and was quite skilled in it. Along with this, due to the practically invisible barriers he could form, his opponent was unable to use an normal attacks to get hits in, as if they did it would clash off the invisible shield he'd place to protect himself. Along with this, whenever an attack got blocked he'd get a free counterattack due to his opponent staggering from their attacks being blocked.
Chloe used a similar strategy to she did when closing the gate and would teleport short distances to avoid her opponents ranged attacks, while also taking shots with her crossbow at random angles to try and keep them from reacting in time. Zach's opponent was a user that used telekinesis and a bow, Zach was able to close the distance fairly quickly and blocked majority of the shots taken at him with the shield side of his weapon, which allowed him to come out on top. Maria was skilled as always and used twin daggers with her lighting ability, throwing out bolts of electricity to distract her opponent as she closed the distance and ended the battle quickly in close combat.
That left Milo as the last member of his group to take the exam and he was still racking his brain as to come up with a strategy to break through his opponents defense.
