Chapter 179 - Two Months Later
Two months later.
"Have you seen Zhenyi?" asked Xin Yichen as he just came out of her room. He had been looking for her since the morning but couldn\'t find her and so he was quite restless.
These days he usually gets anxious for no reason at all, especially when it involves his daughter.
"Master, Young Miss has been strolling in the garden. She asked us to tell you not to worry about her." the servant informed him, but it did nothing to ease his anxiousness.
How could he not be worried when he had all of more reasons to be worried about her?
Xin Yichen ignored the servants and headed towards the garden where Zhenyi was supposed to be, but on the way, he met a worried Long Jie.
"Bà, have you seen Zhenyi?" questioned Long Jie concernedly. He had been looking for his wife for an hour now but couldn\'t find her. She was too good at hiding.
Xin Yichen rolled his eyes. " No. But, she sent the message and asked us not to worry about her."
"Who is worried about her?" Long Jie scoffed. Clearly, he was not worried about her, right?
"She is in the garden," Xin Yichen told Long Jie. In these two months, the pair of father and son-in-law seemed to have grown closer to each other. Sometimes, it felt like they were an actual father and son duo.
"Again?" Long Jie furrowed his brows in predicament. "She has been spending too much time in the garden these days. She spends the majority of her day looking blankly at the garden."
In these two months, many things have changed. The Qin family decided to settle down in China permanently. Aria seemed to have moved on from the scum from the Chen family and seeing somebody new. Sam went to the mission Ryuu had assigned him to but he didn\'t forget to call and harass Zhenyi twice a day. Grandma Mian had been coming to Xin residence frequently to meet Zhenyi.
And Ryuu being Ryuu went missing again and it didn\'t surprise Xin Yichen anymore but he too had been frequently coming to meet her. Zhenyi had decided to step down from her position in Xin Cooperation and the outfit for a while as she said that she needed time to herself but both Xin Yichen and Long Jie knew that it was nothing but an excuse.
If one had to ask what was troubling both of them about her the most, it had to be her acting normal because they knew that she was anything but fine. She had not been like her normal self lately.
Since the day she woke up, she has been focussing on getting better or maybe it was what she was trying to show them. They were not ignorant to not notice her suspicious behaviour but they were behaving as if everything was alright when it clearly was not.
She was polite and easy to talk to these days yet it felt she was so far from them. She would always reply with a smile but Long Jie didn\'t know why but it never reached her eyes. It was not like her signature sarcastic or mocking smile but rather it looked like a painful grimace.
In short, it looked so ugly on her face.
Long Jie saw Zhenyi sitting on the perimeter of the vast fountain that stood in the middle of the large garden of Xin mansion. She was staring at the falling water and her hand was trying to catch the bubbles of water. One look at her and he knew, she was lost somewhere, but no matter what, he couldn\'t get where?
It was as if all his questions were meant to be unanswered. She was not completely healed yet, but she was making rapid progress oddly enough. The burns on her skin had healed but the brown scars were yet to fade and it didn\'t trouble Zhenyi at all.
Sometimes, she would spend the day staring at her scarred hands. And other times, she would just look at him, but she was not exactly looking at him. It seemed that she was trying to see someone else in him and it pained him to no end, but he loved her too much and couldn\'t bear to see her in pain, so he would do anything in his hands to entice her.
To have a one genuine smile on her face, he was willing to do anything.
To have his Zhenyi back, he was doing everything he thought he should.
But no matter what he did, it just was not enough.
She was lost and he needed to bring her back to him.
"Go ahead," said Xin Yichen as he patted Long Jie\'s shoulder.
Others may not notice but he was Zhenyi\'s father, he could see he was affecting her daughter these days. She would be alright in front of everyone else, but whenever she would face him, she would just blink at him as if she was blinking her tears away, and it was hurting Xin Yichen so much but he would just try to hide his pain beneath his charming smile. He didn\'t know what he did to make his daughter so nervous in his presence.
She would look at him with those guilty eyes of hers as if she had committed a crime but it was the other way round. Hiding about her miscarriage was taking a toll on his body and mind but he was pretending to be better for her sake.
They were doing better, weren\'t they? His daughter was physically well and healthier than before, what else did he need? Everything was going well now.
He had been chanting this mantra for a few months now.
