Chapter 153 - At Stake
Very well, it seemed you are team Long Jie as well," Sam said in a grumbling tone and stomped on his feet like a kid.
Ryuu shrugged and walked forward. "Sit down or you want me to arrange another bed for you beside her?"
Sam pressed his lips in a thin line. "I'm fine now."
"Well, it didn't appear to me," Ryuu said as he moved a chair ahead and gestured to Sam to sit down. "Since the team of doctors is here, I might as well order them to get your full body checkup."
"No need." Sam jerked up. " You are even worse to have as a caretaker than your sister. My doctor said I will be discharged in a few days."
"Oh really?" Ryuu raised his brows. " Is it why you, the great Sam Qin, ran from the hospital?"
Sam suppressed a shiver as he heard Ryuu's chilling voice. He glanced at Ryuu again, though his legs were almost wobbly he managed to appear neutral.
The angel on his left shoulder appeared and said,' Isn't he just a human, why are you afraid of him?'
The bored devil appeared on his other shoulder and said while heaving out a yawn, ' Don't listen to her! Do you forget that this man can put even me to shame? If not, at least remember his great sword skills.'
Sam took a deep breath and decided to go with the innocent angel. 'What's there to be afraid of him!'
"Don't be sarcastic, devil," said Sam rolling his eyes as he glanced at Ryuu. "You know I can't keep up with you these days."
"Call me brother, little Sam," Ryuu commanded. Terror thundered upon Sam as he heard him. "You know quite well about my fondness for nicknames, especially the one you just called me."
Sam stood straighter. "I get it, brother."
"Why did you run from the hospital? And who added to help you?" Ryuu asked in the same authoritative voice.
"I couldn't stay there when I learned she was in an accident so, I ran away because your minions *cough* bodyguards won't let me discharge myself. And for the second question who help me…no one did. I am quite capable myself."
"Of course you're," Ryuu said sarcastically.
"I learned from the best," Sam said cheekily.
"Seemed like you didn't lose your charm in hospital. "
" Next time try not to disappear on your mom. She worries about you too much."
"Well, isn't it like the pot calling the kettle back, big bro? Don't you think so? "
" I agree I disappear sometimes." Sam said and as Ryuu's gaze dawned upon him he quickly added," Okay often ….but I am still better than anyone else I know."
"What do you mean?" Ryuu narrowed his eyes.
"If I didn't know any better, I would say you have a wife or dozen of illegitimate kids hidden somewhere as you disappear every two days and don't come back for months..."
Ryuu looked at him and chuckled. "You have a very vivid imagination, Sam, but surprisingly it didn't surprise me anymore."
Sam pursed his lips and didn't speak for another few minutes. His gaze again settled on Zhenyi's face and kept staring at her. They were supposed to be meeting for lunch that day when the accident occurred. If she had not canceled it, perhaps it wouldn't have transpired to her. But who could change the fate?
At least not humans...
"When are you getting discharged?" The question came from Ryuu.
"After two days if u send me back to the hospital," answered Sam his eyes still fixed on Zhenyi. " And after that a few weeks of physiotherapy. Then I am all set."
"Hmmm…"
" You will be leaving tomorrow, Sam," Ryuu said after a pause.
"Wait what?"Sam turned around and gaped at him. What did he mean by him? " You are not sending me back to the hospital?"
Ryuu scoffed. "If you can run away from the hospital it clearly means you are fine. And your doctor will accompany you wherever I am sending you!"
"Is it a new mission, devil *Cough* brother?"
Ryuu nodded. "A very important one or I must say equally confidential too. You are the only one I can trust at this time. Moreover, you are closest to me as a younger brother. "
Sam placed his hand on his heart. "I think my heart is attacking…wait, no… I mean I am getting a heart attack."
The doctors peered at him and came to check on him but he just glared at them and they all took a step back.
"Sam!" Ryuu voice boom.
"Come one, bro. Don't give me heart attacks with all this emotional sermon. Tell me what I have to do, I will do what you say!"
"Good! No mistake, Sam. When I say it is important, you can't fathom its intensity."
"I have to…" Sam makes a slash-the-throat sign.
"No, if it was such a simple matter I'd have sent my assistant. He is more capable than anyone else I know, but I am not sending him."
"Well… if your assistant is more capable than me, why don't u send him?" Sam asked.
Since Ryuu didn't offer him any information about this 'mission', Sam didn't ask either because he could guess the magnitude of the matter. Little did Sam knew he would be getting the biggest shock, well more like a heart attack of his life when he would know what the mission exactly was. The foundation of relations would be shaken, the core of friendship would be at stake and the mysteries of Xin and Long Clan would come forward one by one. And Zhenyi hadn't ever imagined that her best friend would be the key to solve many major mysteries and one of them being the Ryuu himself.
"And start a world war III?" Ryuu asked as he glanced at him. " Nah... I still like a peaceful world."
"Fine! Fine! Fine! I'm very curious now but I know you won't share any information as you don't completely trust me yet. But you know I can do any job for you, you have taught me everything I know."
"Many lives are at stake, Sam. It will change the history of many clans. It's time to end what I started fifteen years ago," said Ryuu as he looked out of the window.
It was indeed the time to lock the traps he had been laying down for years now. He was tired of this secret life, not that he would ever announce himself as the son of this clan but many things were at stake.
