Chapter 151 - The Arrival Of Sam
Sam!"
Ming Jia's gaze fell on the new approaching figure. It had been more than a month since she had seen her son's face and there was nothing she could do instead of waiting for him to come home or occasional grumbling. But here he was, walking towards her as if he hadn't caused her worries about his sudden disappearance.
"Maa!"
Sam grinned as he walked two steps at a time and picked his mom up in the air as he reached her. Feeling pain in his back and abdomen, he lowered her slowly back on the ground.
"Ah, don't pick me up! Don't! Don't! I'm not a kid!"
"But you are still my young and beautiful Maa," said Sam as he gave her a sheepish grin.
"Oh, really? I thought you were of the view that your mom died, that's why you never bothered to come home and visit your old parents," said Ming Jia as she folded her arms over her chest and looked at her son. Her eyes flashed with displeasure.
"Mom! Don't talk about death so casually!"
He hugged her mom, trying to soothe her anger. "I'm sorry, Maa. I never wished to hurt you."
"I'm never forgiving you, Sam. You were not here for Zhenyi's wedding. You were always sticking together since you were in diapers. You both are closer than any siblings, how come you were not present on her big day? You are like a brother to her, do you know?" Ming Jia was not planning on forgiving him soon this time. Which mother wanted their kids to flee from their lives without any prior notice?
Aria did the same this time and it was because of Sam that she chose such a big step. Although she and Aria were on speaking terms these days, it still didn't mean she forgave her either.
Sam pursed his lips. "I know, Maa, I should have been there on her big day, but I couldn't come due to some reasons, but it didn't change the fact that I would not have supported her decision of marrying that man. She knows that I do not like him and I have no intention of liking him in the future."
"Your views about her husband don't matter to anyone and he is a good and honorable man," said Ming Jia. " And most of all, he is good to her, so Sam, please don't upset her by talking ill about her husband."
He was quite aware of the fact that his views about her husband didn't matter to him and she made him quite familiar with it in the hospital. Though she said he was a means to an end in the beginning, after that he could see that she was struggling to understand her feelings about her so-called husband. He scoffed at the word husband. He and Long Jie would always be against each other no matter how much Zhenyi would try to minimize the distance and hatred between them.
"Is she awake?" Sam cautiously asked after some time.
Her smile faltered and a sad expression entered her eyes. "Nah."
He hugged her again. "Don't worry, Maa. She will be alright soon. Heaven and hell don't want her so they send her back to us again to make our lives hell on earth."
She slapped his back loudly. "Talk nonsense about her health, I will spank your ass with my slipper. You are not too big for my spanking."
"Ouch! It hurts, Maa." Sam groaned in pain.
His mother harrumphed.
It was true her hit really hurt him. He was not discharged from the hospital and he was not allowed to walk either but when he heard about Zhenyi's accident, he ran from the hospital. His plan of fleeing from the hospital was childish and silly but he didn't care. He just couldn't stay there especially after learning about her health. And in front of his mother, he was pretending to be strong and like his normal self which was quite difficult for him today.
His mouth curved. "I missed you, Maa."
He didn't know he would ever be able to see his mom again when he was shot but seeing her worrying about him filled him with gratitude and something fluffy in his chest. Truly, no one loves you like your family does.
"But you are not back for your mother. So, stop buttering me, I am not naive enough to fall for your sweet talks," Ming Jia said with a deadpan expression.
Sam pressed his lips in a thin line.
"Maa-"
"Don't you Maa me!"
" You little brat. Do you even know how worried I was for you? No calls, nothing for weeks, and when you finally remembered you have an old mother waiting for you at home, you didn't even bother to tell me where you are and how you are." Her voice cracked as she spoke and tears trickled down her cheeks. Even strong and powerful Ming Jia had her weakness. "God forbid Sam if one day something really happened to you, how would we even know. For years I will be thinking that my Sam will come but…"
"Mom, please don't cry now." Her allegations were really piercing his heart and her tears, they were working like acid on his heart. She was right in what she was telling him. He really deserved her beating but his mother always forgave him no matter how big of a mess he created, but he couldn't tell her about the nature of his job. They only knew that he works individually and had no knowledge of the calamity that had struck her son.
