Chapter 212 - Firstborn Son
Meanwhile, Kimmy could still see the hint of surprise in her mother's face. She was in a state of shock.
This was a shocking revelation for the Royal Family, so how much more if the whole country would learn about this. No wonder, King Lucas emphasized the importance of today's press conference.
Kimmy held her mother's shoulder and continued, "Mom, this is the reason why I told you this earlier. I don't want you to look surprised and clueless once Uncle Lucas announces the truth to everyone."
After a few seconds, Leila was able to recover from her shock. She exhaled sharply before meeting Kimmy's gaze.
"Alright. I understand. Let's wait for the King's revelation. We will eventually know the story behind this. Thank you for telling me ahead. Hmm, should I feel touched? It seems that my unfilial daughter still cares about me even though she is always avoiding me." Leila started to nag at Kimmy once again.
"Mom?! Here we go again. Are you trying to nag at me again?" Kimmy complained.
"Forget it. I don't have any plans to argue with you today. The Royal Family is facing a difficult situation right now. Your cousin is still missing. Let's just support your Uncle, the King."
Kimmy just nodded her head in agreement.
"By the way, is that all you want to say to me, Kimmy? Nothing more?" Leila asked her expectantly with her hopeful eyes. She was dying to hear Cain's name from her daughter's mouth.
"Nothing, Mom. Why? Are you expecting something more?" Kimmy asked her back, eyeing her mother suspiciously.
Leila just smiled at her sheepishly before shaking her head. Soon, the mother and daughter duo returned to the hall.
When they entered the hall, Leila's eyes peered around the venue, searching for Cain. She spotted him standing alone near the front table.
She grabbed Kimmy's hands, pulling her towards Cain. Kimmy narrowed her eyes, thinking about the hidden motive her mother had for pulling her towards Cain.
But to her surprise, her mother just greeted Cain without saying anything. Then she left them to talk with the other high-ranking officials who had just arrived at the venue.
But Kimmy caught her mother stealing glances at her and Cain. She saw her looking at them several times, darting her gaze between Cain and her.
Kimmy didn't like the way Leila was staring at them. It annoyed her and made her feel uncomfortable. She didn't know what was running in her mother's mind right now.
'Don't tell me she is up to something again?'
Kimmy felt bothered by the kind of smile her mother was giving them right now. She snapped out of her train of thoughts when the royal guard announced the arrival of King Lucas and Prince Cedric.
Everyone glanced at the entrance door of the Palace hall. King Lucas, Prince Cedric, and Brione were being escorted by the royal guards as they proceeded to the front table.
They greeted everyone with a smile while waving at them before they joined the Prime Minister and the other Cabinet members at the front table.
The Prime Minister and his family didn't give the Royal Family a warm welcome. They remained indifferent towards them.
Brione looked at Olivia worriedly. She knew that Olivia and her family were going through a lot because of her brother's death. Gavin could also understand Olivia's feelings. He couldn't blame her for getting mad at his family.
When the Royal Family, the Prime Minister, and other Cabinet members settled down in front of the table, the reporters got ready for the start of the press con.
King Lucas wanted to be direct since he had so many things to reveal today. Without further ado, King Lucas stood up in front of everyone. Microphone and cameras were focused on him. Everyone was anticipating his announcement.
After thanking everyone for attending today, King Lucas proceeded right away to the main point of this Press Con.
"Everyone, I would like to introduce another member of the Royal Family."
The moment King Lucas said those words, the reporters and other people inside the hall glanced at Brione who was sitting beside Gavin. They mistook her as the other member of the Royal Family King Lucas was referring to since she was the only new face among them.
Brione shrunk in her seat upon noticing the attention people were giving her. Gavin chuckled and grabbed her hand under the table and said, "Sweetheart, just relax."
Brione could only bite her lower lip before nodding her head. Soon, King Lucas continued his speech.
"This is the first time I will show him in public and introduce him to you as a member of the Royal Family."
King Lucas turned to Gavin, signaling him to stand up beside him. Gavin nodded his head and obediently obeyed his father. He stood up beside his father.
The Cabinet members and others looked at King Lucas and Gavin confusedly. Almost everyone there already knew Prince Cedric so the King's words didn't make sense to them.
When Gavin was now standing beside King Lucas, he continued introducing Gavin to everyone. He held Gavin's right shoulder.
"Standing before you is Prince Gavin of the Wilhelm Royal Family." King Lucas said with his authoritative voice.
The moment those words escaped his mouth, everyone started murmuring.
"What? Prince Gavin? Not Prince Cedric? What's going on here?"
"Did we hear it wrong?"
"What is the King talking about right now? Introducing another prince? Where's Prince Cedric?"
King Lucas cleared his throat as he could see the confusion in their eyes. The royal guards signaled everyone to stay quiet since the King was still not done with his speech. Everyone fell silent and waited for the King to continue.
"Prince Gavin is my firstborn son, the twin brother of Prince Cedric."
Everyone gasped in surprise after hearing that.
"What? A twin? They are twins? The royal family has twins?!"
