Chapter 613 - Performing The Operation
Chapter 613: Performing The Operation
Zheng Ren took a look at the number. It was a mess. He did not recognize it so he hung up immediately.
“Oh my, a harassing call came so soon?” Su Yun laughed as he looked at his phone. His fingers were so fast that they were practically an afterimage as he browsed through all his messages.
It was really a coincidence. Zheng Ren was also very helpless.
His phone could not handle the torrent of messages and calls. There were too many messages. He could not open WeChat at all.
It was so slow that it was like an ancient machine. The phone could stop working at any time.
Ten seconds later, the phone rang again. Zheng Ren glanced at it and it was still the same strange number. Zheng Ren hung up again but the LCD touch screen was already slow to a certain extent, and his reaction was delayed.
The ringtone kept ringing. Su Yun stuck his head out to take a look and sneered, “Boss, didn’t you look at the number?”
“Huh?”
“It’s from Germany. It must be Lil Fugui,” Su Yun said.
Zheng Ren then noticed that the address under the unfamiliar number was from Germany.
F*ck...
He clicked to answer the call but the phone didn’t respond.
Zheng Ren was also helpless and could only wait quietly.
“Boss, Lil Fugui might want to talk to you about the donation of thirty million USD but you’re using a thousand-dollar phone and refusing to answer without hesitation. Doesn’t it feel ridiculous?” Su Yun teased and asked.
Zheng Ren did not care. He just wanted his phone to fix itself so that he could contact Xie Yiren.
He was hesitating whether to call first or read his messages beforehand.
His phone was stuck for a full minute before Zheng Ren opened the WeChat profile picture of Xie Yiren.
Before he could look at the WeChat content, that strange number called again.
Was It really Lil Fugui? Zheng Ren was a little convinced so just answered the call without hesitation.
“Hello. Hello, Boss, is that you? Can you hear me?” Professor Rudolf Wagner’s voice came from the phone as if he was right beside Zheng Ren’s ear and shouting.
Zheng Ren frowned, moved the phone away, and said, “Lil Fugui, it’s me.”
“Boss! You’ve finally appeared!” Professor Rudolf Wagner was so excited that he almost cried with joy.
In his heart, Zheng Ren wished that the person on the other end of the phone was Xie Yiren and not Professor Rudolf Wagner.
Zheng Ren was a little annoyed and his voice became a little stiff. “Say something.”
“Boss, I missed you so much. Please come over to where I am...” Zheng Ren hung up before the professor could finish his sentence and immediately called Xie Yiren.
The ringtone rang. A few seconds later, Xie Yiren picked up the phone.
In an instant, Zheng Ren’s heart rate jumped to 150. It was as if he had received emergency treatment.
“Yiren...” Zheng Ren only called her name before he lost his voice. In an instant, his mind went blank. When he was free, he thought of countless sweet words before disappearing. He could not remember a single word.
“Zheng Ren, you’re out!” Xie Yiren was also very excited. Her voice was very loud and made Department Chief Kong laugh.
“Why is she saying it like you were in prison? You’re even out,” Department Chief Kong muttered softly.
However, Zheng Ren did not hear Department Chief Kong’s words. In his world, there was only Xie Yiren.
The two of them were silent at the same time. Only the sound of heavy breathing came from the phone receiver.
“You...”
“You...”
A few seconds later, the two of them spoke at the same time but also stopped right there and then.
On the phone, the beeping sound continued to ring, making Zheng Ren a little annoyed.
The professor was simply too annoying. Disturbing him right then was simply an unpardonable crime!
“I’m in the Imperial Capital and Chang Yue will be there. The work procedures have been completed. When will you be back? I’ll pick you up,” Xie Yiren sorted out her emotions and said gently.
Zheng Ren glanced at Department Chief Kong and asked, “Department Chief Kong, when is our flight?”
“At 3.15pm.”
“Yiren, my flight is at 3.15pm.”
“Well, what do you want to eat tonight? I’ll make it for you.” Xie Yiren’s brain was obviously not online. She actually asked about Zheng Ren’s meal.
“Hehe.” Zheng Ren was also like a fool. He did not know what to say at all as he just laughed foolishly.
Su Yun’s eyes were filled with disdain as he glared at Zheng Ren through his fringe.
The beeping sound of missed calls continued to ring, reminding Zheng Ren just how anxious he was.
Zheng Ren ignored the professor’s call and chatted with Xie Yiren on the phone for more than ten minutes. It was not until Xie Yiren realized that she did not have enough time to prepare dinner and pick up Zheng Ren that she reluctantly hung up.
The moment he hung up the call, the professor rang again.
Zheng Ren sighed and picked up the phone.
Without waiting for the professor to say anything, Zheng Ren immediately said in a deep voice, “Lil Fugui, if you have something to say, hurry up and say it. I’m about to board the plane.”
“You’re nice to the opposite sex but have no humanity.” Su Yun’s words flew over lightly.
“Boss, about that, I performed the surgery.” Professor Rudolf Wagner could tell that something was wrong from Zheng Ren’s tone. He did not continue to beat around the bush.
“Surgery?”
“The prostate interventional embolization for Dr. Mehar...” The professor’s depressed voice traveled over.
“So what if the surgery was performed? Who can perform the surgery with a hundred percent success?” Zheng Ren said perfunctorily.
“Boss! It’s not like that!” Professor Rudolf Wagner almost shouted, “It’s the Nobel Prize in Medicine. If the surgery fails, the Nobel Prize will be gone!”
His voice was so loud that Department Chief Kong who was sitting next to Zheng Ren could hear it clearly.
Department Chief Kong’s expression suddenly became serious.
During that period of time with the help of the relevant departments, Department Chief Kong had a corresponding understanding of the progress of this year’s Nobel Prize in Medicine.
Rudolf Wagner had successfully received Dr. Mehar’s recommendation to participate in the evaluation of the Nobel Prize in Medicine before January 31st using a new surgical technique for TIPS to treat late-stage portal hypertension and ascites.
The current Zheng Ren could be said to be a candidate for the Nobel Prize.
There were many candidates, but he was still thousands of miles away from winning the Nobel Prize.
Although Zheng Ren did not care, he was thinking about how he could teach other people how to perform TIPS surgery. No matter how awesome he was, he could only perform surgeries 24 hours a day. There were only a total of 800 surgeries that he could complete in a year.
To the huge number of hepatitis-B patients in the country, it was just a drop in the bucket.
Furthermore, winning the Nobel Prize...was completely meaningless to Zheng Ren. Well, from the perspective of personal honor, it was meaningful.
It was not even a few decades afterward that the situation was completely different after just a few years.
Back then in the early days of the country’s founding, the artificial synthesis of insulin could result in winning the Nobel Prize. At that time, the entire country’s strength could not withstand the malicious slander toward the end.
Teacher To Youyou could only get the Nobel Prize after many decades had passed.
Now, just like the Olympic champion, the country no longer needed this kind of honor to unite people.
Of course, it would be best if he could but it was not required.
From a personal and national point of view, there was no urgency so Zheng Ren did not care much about the Nobel Prize.
Just performing surgery was more in line with his worldview.
