Chapter 209 - Out of Danger
After Jing Yichen was shot, Jing Zhongxiu started to flex his power. Apart from the hospital visit, he spent the remaining time in the study. Many people kept coming in and out of that room.
Jing Yiran had met and heard of some of them earlier. But few were absolute strangers to him.
But these people looked powerful and sharp. It could easily be discerned that these were some moguls from different fields.
Amongst them, one woman left a deep impression on him.
It was not only because she was the only woman visitor, or because she was extremely good-looking, but because she had a pair of startling eyes. Looking into those, he felt as if he had looked at death.
Cold sweat trickled down Jing Yiran. He immediately understood who she was.
She must be the top professional Killer Angel, most wanted in the world. She occupied the second rank in the Global Killer List and the only woman in the Top 10!
She never missed a bullet and she didn’t have any bottom-line for morality. It was said that even her parents were killed by her and she had just been fourteen years old at the time.
She was a killing machine who didn’t possess any emotions. She was able to complete the mission without being affected, no matter how difficult the mission was.
Someone said that she was mentally disturbed, perfectly suited to be a killer.
But the woman Jing Yiran met today didn’t seem to be mentally disturbed at all. He didn’t know her real face. Rumor said that she was extremely beautiful and it must have been true.
So even the killer at rank 2 was here! Jing Yiran couldn’t imagine who the rest of those visitors were and were not known to him! It seemed that Jing Zhongxiu was totally pissed because Jing Yichen was injured.
He always knew that the most powerful man at this family or even in the entire A City was not the old lord Jing Tianyuan. Nor was he the mysterious or distant Jing Yichen. It was his father Jing Zhongxiu, who looked mild and did nothing except for fishing and playing chess every single day.
He was an extremely powerful man who possessed a lot of power in his hands. He was also a man who was very responsible. He always bore the burden, no matter how much he hated or detested it.
Jing Yiran clearly understood that the reason why he was still alive was because Jing Zhongxiu had been defending him all this while.
His relationship with Jing Zhongxiu was quite complicated. He admired and worshipped him, but felt distant and fearful of him. What was more, he hated him as well.
Because in Jing Zhongxiu’s heart, Jing Yichen was always his only son. Even the name of Jing Yiran had been given by the old lady rather than him.
How pathetic it must have been for not being even named by his own father. His father had never hugged him or asked him about anything after he was born. He barely even scolded or beat him – he only scolded Jing Yichen.
When the study’s door opened again, Jing Zhongxiu walked out. He had been in there the entire night.
He hadn’t slept the entire night, but was still dressed well and looked formidable and distant. The face that resembled Jing Yichen so much, didn’t show any emotion. But his eyes that were full of exhaustion and anger.
He walked downstairs and the Butler asked the servants to lay out the breakfast so that he could eat after freshening up.
Jing Zhongxiu looked at Jing Yiran who was standing there and said calmly, “Don’t go out in the near future. If you must, take some more men with you.”
Having said the words, he turned around and went to wash himself up before Jing Yiran could respond.
Seeing his tall figure, Jing Yiran didn’t feel warmth in him. He answered in a low voice that could only be heard by himself. “Yes, father.”
...
At Family Mu’s Hospital, the light finally shut outside the emergency room.
It meant that the operation was finally over.
Shangguan Ning had been staring at the operation room throughout the night. She immediately stood up. She was dying to look at the man who had risked his own life for her.
She had spent the night worrying and blaming herself. She was bracing herself for some bad news.
She had wanted to call out to him but was also worried that it would disturb the doctors’ concentration. So she had to stop herself from going any further and stood outside the room without moving an inch.
Seeing that operation was over, she wanted to hear the doctor come out and tell her that he was fine.
But probably she had been in a position for too long so that her legs all got numb. She suddenly got up and nearly collapsed.
Tiger and Lee Duo supported her and shouted at the same time. “Watch out, lady!”
Shangguan Ning adjusted herself and answered with a phrase –”I am alright” and then staggered towards the Emergency room, one step after another. Tiger and Lee Duo followed her behind. They didn’t enter the room with her but stood outside the door as guards.
Shangguan Ning could smell blood and that broke her heart. That smell seemed to take her back to the moment when Jing Yichen was shot and when his warm blood had splattered over her face.
In the emergency room, Mu Qing was not the only one there. The top-notch surgeons of Family Mu’s Hospital were also there. Mu Qing gestured to the other surgeons that they should go out when he caught sight of her.
Shangguan Ning didn’t have eyes for anyone else at this moment. She was totally focused upon the man on the operation table who was breathing feebly and looked pale.
She walked to his side and saw that the wound on his chest had been wrapped with gauze. Then she saw the bloody bullet that had been taken out of his chest and placed on the steel plate. She burst into tears and took his cold hand into her own.
Mu Qing removed the mask and the white rubber gloves and patted Shangguan Ning’s back softly. He said to her in a most consoling tone, “Don’t cry, Sister. The bullet didn’t hit on any critical place. Master Jing is fine except that he has lost too much blood. But he should wake up by tomorrow. He needs you to take care of him, so don’t tire yourself out.”
What he said was quite useful.
Shangguan Ning wiped her tears and looked up with her swollen eyes. She saw Mu Qing’s tired eyes which must have been because of the intensive operation that lasted for the entire night and said gratefully, “You have worked hard, Doctor Mu, thank you so much to have brought him back.”
