Mu Qing quickly checked Shangguan Ning’s vitals.

He frowned, once he saw the results on the screen.

Shangguan Ning had a fever that touched almost 105 degree F. If she had been brought here even half an hour later, her body would have gone into shock. Her organs could have ceased to function. She could have even lost her life.

Mu Qing got her medication ready immediately and injected her without wasting any more time. This would bring down her body temperature and allow it to cool down.

He had examined Shangguan Ning many times, so he had begun to understand how her body reacted to various medicines. With the help of the right medication, her body temperature dropped to 101 degree F and stabilized there.

Seeing her current temperature on the thermometer, Jing Yichenwas still unhappy. “Why is her temperature not falling any further?”

Mu Qing disconnected the device attached to Shangguan Ning’s arms and said in exasperation, “Master Jing, you have no knowledge about medicine. This is not the time for you to advise me. I am the doctor here. I know that you aren’t thinking reasonably but please do not doubt my ability as a doctor. I am doing my best. It would be helpful if you do not teach me how to do my job.”

Mu Qing was an excellent doctor. He may not have been able to match up to Jing Yichen in any other aspect, but when it came to his work, he was the best doctor, the city had.

He explained, “She was suffering from such a high fever when you brought her here, that it was practically impossible to bring it down at one go. It would also have been harmful if her body temperature was to drop instantly. Medically, it is recommended that the temperature be brought down at a gradual pace.”

Jing Yichen nodded. Shangguan Ning’s condition had stabilised and she was out of danger. Soon, she was shifted to the normal ward.

Mu Qing shook his head in amazement. Why wasn’t she brought here sooner? Why did Jing Yichen have wait for things to get to this stage?

Did he also have to be their psychologist and teach them a lesson or two? He knew that falling ill so often wasn’t good for Ning’s mental and physical well being. To add to the pressure of making sure that Ning felt better, there was Jing Yichen, who was watching Mu Qing’s every move, like a hawk.

Sitting by her bedside, Jing Yichen was so upset to see Shangguan Ning lying limp in the hospital bed.

He had been in Australia whilst Shangguan Ning had just returned from Germany three days ago. They hadn’t met for one week and he missed her very much.

To get back home and find her in this condition was beyond worrisome.

Besides, what hurt him even more was that she didn’t seem to reciprocate his feelings. She didn’t miss him and even pushed him away from her, when he tried to touch her.

Jing Yichen thought for a while but still couldn’t come to a conclusion as to what had he done to annoy her to this degree.

Now that the medicine had started to take effect on her, he thought it would be best if he let her rest in silence, devoid of any disturbance. He walked out of the hospital to meet with Lee Duo and his team.

He recollected their conversation when he had spoken with Shangguan Ning, the day prior. She had seemed fine. The problem, whatever it was, has occurred today. To get to the root of it, he would need to ask Lee Duo about where all Shangguan Ning had been and who all she had met with today.

Lee Duo was still awake. He showed Jing Yichen, a brief report he had made, of Shangguan Ning’s schedule.

Shangguan Ning didn’t go anywhere apart from work, the entire week. Her daily commute to work, every morning and then back home, at the end of every day. She hadn’t even visited Liyu Science & Technology. Her schedule was simple and straightforward, so Lee Duo finished his report in a few minutes.

Everything seemed to have happened according to routine, apart from one small event. Tang Yun had met with Shangguan Ning, at Jingsheng Enterprise. What they said to each other was something that Lee Duo wasn’t aware of.

After hearing all that Lee Duo had to say, Jing Yichen instantly understood what was the source of the problem. Tang Yun had visited the enterprise with just one motive. To provoke Shangguan Ning. She would have intended to instigate Shangguan Ning because she knew how important Shangguan Ning was, to Jing YIchen.

Shangguan Ning had never been fond of Tang Yun. In fact, she had even chosen to have a haircut only because Tang Yun sported a hairstyle similar to hers.

As long as Tang Yun was in the picture, Shangguan Ning would never feel completely secure.

Jing Yichen wondered how Tang Yun even had the courage to come to the enterprise. Judging from Tang Yun’s personality, she would have had a no holds barred monologue with Shagguan Ning.

Shangguan Ning was a simple girl. She wouldn’t have been able to handle Tang Yun.

He wasn’t sure what Tang Yun had gone through in the last ten years, but since she had returned to China, she had been behaving weirdly possessive about Jing Yichen. She wasn’t the person she used to be. She was always scheme and plotting. Her recent behaviour was something that Jing Yichen could not come to terms with.

He knew that at heart, she was a gentle soul. He had kept giving her the benefit of the doubt. He did this, not because he loved her but because he felt that he had owed to her.

He loved no one but Shangguan Ning.

Just knowing that Tang Yun could fall to such limits, just to offend Shagguan Ning, made Jing Yichen furious.

He had brought her back to China in order to give her a fresh start in her life. He had not expected her to destroy his stable and happy life. He had worked very hard to get all the good things in his life.

He could tolerate her doing anything else, but he would never tolerate her bullying his wife.

Jing Yichen felt like maybe Tang Yun didn’t understand how much he loved his wife. Maybe Tang Yun had forgotten that if Jing Yichen could bring her back to China, he was also capable of sending her away!

Jing Yichen went back to Shangguan Ning’s room to check on her. To his surprise, Shangguan Ning was missing!

The IV that had been inserted into her arm, was lying on the floor. It had been tossed aside and glucose continued to drip out of it.

He had just stepped out for a mere three minutes and Shangguan Ning had disappeared? This was impossible.

She couldn’t have walked out of there herself, because she had a fever and had no stamina to.

He had been in such close proximity to Ning’s room and he still hadn’t sensed that something was amiss.

Jing Yichen rushed to Mu Qing. He told him what the matter was and they both rushed to check the security cameras that focussed on the ward.

There were scores of camera screens at the hospital. Mu Qing was checking the cameras on the left side whilst Jing Yichen was checking the ones on the right side. Suddenly, he hit the desk with his fists.

Mu Qing, who was sitting right there, was startled at his behaviour. He leaned across to have a closer look at the camera.

He could see two familiar silhouettes on the camera screen. One of them was Shangguan Ning, still unconscious, whilst the other was Jing Yichen’s brother, Jing Yiran.

Shangguan Ning was in Jing Yiran’s arms. He carried her out of her room, into the lobby and then towards the exit. Before he stepped out of the hospital building, he smiled at the camera, as if he had known that they were watching him.
