Chapter 1559 - An unknown person angered Ji Ziming.
Chapter 1559: An unknown person angered Ji Ziming.
She eyed the man, whose gaze had turned dark, and shook her head.
“If no one is speaking, I will be hanging up.”
She spoke one last time, for this silence on the other end was starting to scare her.
“Are you Pei Ge?”
A low and hoarse voice finally came through. It seemed to be coming from far away, as though the person had not spoken in a long time. The mechanical whirring and the sound of wind reminded her of a familiar scene.
“Who are you? Who are you exactly?” she quickly asked. Standing beside her, Ji Ziming took the phone from her and coldly asked the person she was talking to. “What is your motive for finding her?”
“You must be Ji Ziming. What motive would I have for finding her? Don’t think of me as a bad person.”
The stranger suddenly laughed. Through the receiver, the laughter sounded frightening.
He hurriedly whipped out his phone. Just as he moved to tap on the ‘record’ icon, the person on the other end spoke again. “Why? Are you thinking of recording my voice and of having your subordinates match it to a person? Perhaps you want to jot down my number to check where it is coming from?”
He stared coldly at this stranger’s number. It had apparently been altered.
A normal phone number had eleven digits; this one only had nine. This person’s voice also did not sound as if it belonged to a man. The person must be using a voice-changer. It was possible for the caller to be a woman or a child.
The motive achieved would be the same.
“Why? Are you afraid now?”
The person’s laughter and mocking came through once more. This voice seemed to belong to a ghost in a quiet ward.
He fixed his cold gaze on this foreign number. The stranger seemed capable of seeing through his thoughts. This was his first time feeling so much vexation in his life.
“What is your motive for calling Pei Ge?”
His voice was icy-cold. Through the phone screen, the stranger could feel that he had truly angered the famous CEO.
“Nothing much. It’s just that she’s been living in bliss recently, so I wanna remind her to visit her father more often.”
The stranger hung up after saying that.
The atmosphere in the ward turned tense, as though ten thousand arrows were ready to be fired at them any time. Suddenly, the woman could not find the words to explain to the man about her father’s death many years ago.
“Hey, I want to tell you—”
“You don’t need to say anything; I know.”
He turned to look at her with a cold and dark gaze. “You said that your father’s death had something to do with your second uncle.”
“Mhm.”
She nodded, startled by the cold and hostile air around him. The man was unexpectedly more agitated than she was.
“Okay. This call must be related to your second uncle. Let’s go meet him when we have time. We shall see what he has been hiding. The evidence that you have been unable to find is the most crucial.”
“Are you suspecting my second uncle?”
She frowned, her eyes twinkling with uncertainty toward her second uncle.
“Could it be anyone else other than him?”
His eyes remained cold and dark. When his gaze landed on her, it slowly turned warm. “Ge Ge, trust me; I will help you to find this person. No matter whether that person is a man or a woman—human or ghost, I will help you find him and let my father-in-law finally have rest.”
“Mhm. I trust you.”
She nodded. This man was hers.
The man who would do anything for her at any cost.
“Shall we pay your second uncle in prison a visit this afternoon?”
“Okay. I’ll listen to you.”
The afternoon sun was very different from the morning sunlight, especially in the penitentiary. The place was gloomy and drab, affecting a person’s mood.
A beam of light streamed into the prison cells. This visit to her second uncle was different from the last. The last time she came here, she was filled with hatred and desire for vengeance. Now, she had Ji Ziming with her; the man could make the whole capital tremble with just a stomp of his feet.
“What will you say later when we meet my uncle?”
Pei Ge eyed the prisoners lying in moldy beds along the way and felt nauseous. The last time she came, the woman was too focused on investigating her father’s death that she had actually not taken notice of her surroundings.
Her second uncle could be considered paying for his due sins.
“Sir, ma’am, this way please.”
The officer with them pointed at a certain cell. The iron-gray tiles had clearly seen history. Standing by the window inside, Pei Zhenghui heard the door opening but did not turn around.
“Pei Zhenghui, Pei Ge and I are here to see you.”
Ji Ziming stood at the door. His dark and cold eyes sharp like an eagle’s as he focused on the man in blue prison outfit, whose back was still facing them.
“You guys are here.”
The older man spoke slowly as though he was expecting them.
“Did you know that we would come?”
She took two steps forward while still staring at the back of her uncle’s head. She could not help but ask, “Do you know who my father’s real murderer is?”
This was when Pei Zhenghui turned around. “How would I know?”
“If you know, then quickly tell me. That’s my father—your brother. Can you really bear to work with an outsider to snare him, making him unable to rest in peace even after death?”
“I already said that I don’t know. I already told you everything you needed to know last time. What else do you want from me?”
Her lips curled up into a cold smile. Her icy and emotionless gaze made the older man’s spine shiver. “I already told you what you wanted to know. I have nothing else to tell you.”
“No, you do.”
Ji Ziming stepped forward, pulled the woman behind him, and continued in a cold and dense voice. “Do you know that you could’ve been convicted to death for your crime? Pei Ge decided to let you live on the account of your blood ties, but what did you do? You cooperated with an outsider to deceive and threaten her. Simply with your crimes, you could be executed! Your daughter and your wife will not get a kind end, too!”
“What are you going to do to them?”
Upon hearing that this young chap planned to touch his daughter and wife, the older man became timid. “You can’t touch them. I’m begging you; please don’t, CEO Ji. I will tell you everything you and Pei Ge want to know. Just don’t touch my family, please.”
