Chapter 1457: I am more capable at other things; do you want to try?
Pei Ge’s next statement scared him.
“You might be unaware of this, but I was the person you ran over.”
Hong Qiang instantly looked up, and the veins in his temples bulged. It was as though he would attack at any moment.
“I know it’s you so speak. What do you want to know from me?”
“I’m not here today to listen to you say anything, but I want you to listen to me.” The sincerity in this woman’s eyes baffled him for a split-second. He understood the fickleness of the world when he went around trying to pool money for his daughter’s surgery. He also knew that truly influential people did not appear as ‘approachable’ as they tried to make themselves out.
The true apathy of human beings was when they felt that it did not concern them when others were in trouble, even if it was a matter of life and death. They had ten thousand reasons to reject helping.
Who was this woman? He had been at the police station for so long, and everyone was trying to get the truth out of his mouth, but he would only say those few lines.
“Don’t worry; nothing is really wrong with me. According to the law, your license will at most be revoked for DUI-ing and they won’t press charges for your civil responsibility. You won’t stay here for too long.”
“You...” He did not dare to believe his ears.
On the second day when he turned himself in, someone told him that he had to go to prison and pay for civil charges, but the moment he thought of his daughter’s health condition, he resolutely signed the agreement with that person. As long as he claimed that he was the one who had hit this lady with a car, his daughter would receive the best treatment for her condition.
“You don’t have to say anything; just listen to me.” Pei Ge appeared composed as she spoke.
“Your daughter is presently doing well at the hospital and is on her road to recovery. Also, the hospital waived all medical fees. You do know this, but the Ji family’s hospital is one of the best in the country. Your girl requires much manpower, money, and effort for her to make a speedy recovery...” As she spoke softly, Hong Qiang remained mum. The cup of hot tea was cooling slowly.
When the tea cooled completely, she stood up and said, “I’m done here. I’ll be back to tell you more in a few days’ time.”
Just as she reached the door, the man spoke, “Miss Pei, thank you.”
Her hand, which was holding the door handle, paused, but neither did she turn around to say anything. She had achieved her goal for today, and all that was left was for time to work its magic.
Her head slammed into a muscular chest just as she exited the interrogation room. As she exclaimed softly in pain, someone hugged her gently. “It’s great that you’re fine.”
Ji Ziming hugged his woman and she smiled sillily at him. “Dummy, I told you that I’ll be fine. Let go of me fast; we’re at the police station.”
“What are you afraid of?” He refused to let her go. The man could tell how dangerous the earlier situation was even when he was separated from her by a mirror. His eyes were fixed on Hong Qiang, and he did not let his guard down even for a second.
After giving them some space to talk for a bit, Zhao Jingcheng walked toward them with two other police officers.
“Ma’am, your actions inside were eye-opening. No matter how many times we asked, that guy never spoke a word.”
The superintendent tried currying favor.
“No, I’m not as capable as what you made me appear.” Pei Ge shot the slightly unhappy man next to her a glance and curled her lips slightly into a smile. “At the very least, I’m not as capable as this CEO beside me.”
Ji Ziming’s dark eyes deepened as he looked at his woman and said, “My wife is quite humble.”
The superintendent only realized then that it was not that the man was incapable of smiling; it was just that his smiles were only for his woman.
“Then, does ma’am intent to continue... or...”
“Keep him locked up. Let him out the next time I come.”
“Alright. I’ll listen to ýou.”
On the way back to the hospital, the man looked at the woman in the passenger seat and asked in his alluring voice, “I’m more capable at other things; do you want to try?”
Pei Ge was baffled for a second but quickly understood what he meant. She pretended to look tired. “I’m feeling tired, so I’ll take a nap. Just wake me up once we reach the hospital.”
“You’re feigning sleepiness.” Ji Ziming hit the nail on the head.
“Nonsense. I’m really tired. You have no idea how afraid and nervous I was when confronting that person. I was scared that he—”
“If he dared do anything to you then, I’d take revenge on him in the same way.” The harshness in his voice made her eyes fly open instantly.
“He wouldn’t dare.” She defended Hong Qiang.
“Thankfully, he didn’t, or else, I’d really make him experience hell...” whispered the man, almost to himself.
She looked at him. He always gave her way too many surprises and touching moments. This man was so dashing and manly even when saying that he would ‘take revenge’ for her.
“Ziming.” She called his name.
“What’s wrong?” The man kept driving without turning his head over to her.
“Nothing. I just feel very blissful right now.” She turned to look outside the window.
The man’s deep-set eyes began to fill with joy. She was blissful, and so was he.
The hospital director, who was standing at the entrance, saw their car when it stopped at the entrance. He quickly told Pei Ge, “Ma’am, quickly take a look at that girl with a heart ailment. She refuses to eat anything unless she sees you.”
“What’s wrong with Niu Niu? Why did that happen?” The director opened the door for her in his haste.
“I don’t know, either. While I was working earlier, the doctor came to my office to report this; he said that if the girl continues to refuse food, she’ll make her condition worse. She insists on seeing you before she eats. I have no other solution but to look for you.”
“Say no more; I’ll go to her now.” She shot an anxious glance at her man. “Ziming, I’ll go ahead first.”
“Wait a while; I’ll accompany you there.” The man threw the keys to the security guard at the entrance. “Park the car and send the keys to the nurse station at the VVIP ward.”
“Yes, sir!” The security guard bowed.
The director hurriedly brought the couple to the girl’s ward. Niu Niu was fast asleep, with her softly sobbing mother by her bed, when they got there. The woman looked up when she caught sight of shadows at the door and was delighted to find out that one belonged to Pei Ge.
She quickly walked over to her. “Ma’am, please persuade my daughter for me. She hasn’t eaten anything today, and if this continues, her body will be unable to handle it.”
“What’s wrong with her; wasn’t she fine just last night?” Pei Ge could not fathom why the girl would suddenly become like this just after her short trip to the police station.
