When she returned to the VIP ward, she saw two beautiful nurses in pink uniforms, but her mother was nowhere to be seen.
Just as she was wondering where her mother was, she saw her walk out of the adjoining washroom in a light green hospital gown.
“Ge Ge, why are you back so fast?” Zhang Manhua was slightly surprised to see her daughter back so quickly.
“Yes, I sent CEO Ji downstairs and came straight back up,” Pei Ge said while walking toward her mother.
Her mother did not continue questioning her on this.
Meanwhile, the two nurses’ eyes shone when they heard her say ‘CEO Ji’.
“Auntie Zhang, is this your daughter?”
“She doesn’t look like Auntie Zhang at all.”
Her mother merely laughed off their comments.
“She indeed doesn’t look like me.”
Pei Ge’s looks did not resemble her mother’s or her father’s. Of course, even when she was skinny, she did not resemble either of her parents.
She only nodded in greeting at the two nurses.
“Miss Pei, what is your relationship with CEO Ji?”
“Yes, what is your relationship?”
The two nurses looked at her with eyes full of curiosity.
Amused by the two nurses’ curiosity, she smiled and replied detachedly, “A superior-subordinate relationship. CEO Ji is my boss.”
“Wow! CEO Ji is such a nice person; he’s a really compassionate boss...”
The two did not doubt her words and even proceeded to gossip at the side.
From their gossip, she learned that Ji Ziming was actually a ‘famous person’ in this hospital.
Amid their chatter and laughter, the two nurses measured Zhang Manhua’s body temperature and told her of the things she needed to take note of. They then left the mother-daughter pair by themselves in the ward.
“Mom, are you hungry? I’ll go out to buy some food if you are.” She helped tuck her mother into bed.
Zhang Manhua shook her head. “I’m not hungry; I ate a little at home. You should, though. You’ve been busy, so you probably haven’t eaten dinner yet.”
“I’m not hungry, too.” She smiled at her mother.
“You still have to eat something even if you’re not hungry.” Frowning, she tried to persuade her daughter.
“Mom, I’m really not hungry. It’s just perfect, since I can lose some weight.” She sat at the bedside as she laughed.
“You lass talking about losing weight, no one will believe you.” Zhang Manhua knocked her on the head in amusement.
Chatting with her mother for a little while, her thoughts soon drifted to her best friend, Tang Xiaoyu.
She sighed softly halfway through her speech.
“Sigh...”
“What’s wrong? Why are you suddenly sighing?” Her mother looked at her curiously.
“I’m just thinking about why I haven’t been able to contact Tang Xiaoyu for almost a week.” She shared her worries to her mother.
Her mother also became morose at this.
“That child... Why is she suddenly unreachable?”
“That’s right. I’m really worried to death about her. Luckily, there’s been no news of a plane crashing recently,” she softly commented in a voice brimming with concern.
However, even if there were no reports about planes meeting mishap in the air, there was still no way of knowing if anything else happened elsewhere.
Sigh... Why did I neglect asking for her parent’s contact details before?
She once more sighed inwardly, her eyes filling with helplessness.
Zhang Manhua patted her shoulder comfortingly. “Don’t worry too much. I’m sure, Xiaoyu, that child, is doing fine. Maybe, she just misplaced her phone.”
She nodded her head at her mother’s comforting words. All she could currently do was hope, anyway.
She sat and chatted with her mother inside the ward for a bit before returning home to pack the leftover essentials.
Once that was done, she retired to her bedroom and powered on her computer.
As she waited for the computer to power up, she reached for her phone and redialed her best friend’s number.
Alas, even this time, her call was still unable to get through.
“Sigh... Xiaoyu, what exactly happened to you...” she mumbled. She got busy with the computer and left a message on her best friend’s social-media account.
Done doing that, she surfed the net for information about gastric cancer.
She read online articles about the illness for a while before switching off the computer. With her mother’s essentials in hand, she made her way back to the hospital.
That night, she accompanied her mother at her first ever stay in the hospital.
It was a night of restlessness and insomnia for some people.
The next day, the mother-daughter pair woke up at daybreak.
Just as they finished washing up, the two nurses from yesterday walked in.
“Auntie Zhang, don’t eat anything yet. We’ll bring you for a full-body checkup now.”
With that, the two nurses brought the mother and daughter out of the ward.
A long time passed before the series of tests was concluded.
By the time everything was over, it was already noon.
“Mom, let’s go have lunch.” Escorting her mother to the VIP ward, she suggested this with a smile.
Zhang Manhua nodded. “Alright. Let’s go have lunch first. We can eat while waiting for the health report.”
“Alright, then. Mom, wait here a little. I’ll go get us some food.” She grinned and moved to go buy some food.
However, before she could reach the door, a number of strangers wearing uniforms barged into the room.
“You guys are...” She looked at the few men in shock. They seemed to be balancing plates of food in their hands.
“Hello, Miss Pei. We are here to deliver Madam Zhang’s and your lunch.”
She was instantly dumbfounded.
However, the moment the lid of a dish plate was opened, she already had an inkling of who had ordered this lunch to be sent over.
