Chapter 296: Resignation II

The office was so silent that Lu Zhaoyang could hear every clank made by her heels as she sauntered towards the devil with a frozen expression. On the contrary, the devil was smiling with the corners of his lips lifted in fulfillment. She had returned for him at long last.
But the plot twist on his script was the envelope she placed onto the table.
“This is my resignation letter. Please sign it.” The very line killed his bit of smile as it flattened into an unheard fury. His fists were clenched so tightly that he almost wanted to shred the entire envelope into a million pieces.
Facing a conflict with the final boss, Lu Zhaoyang the brave warrior was sweating in anticipation. She could feel the streaming sweats in her holding palms. Every second felt like hours to her, waiting to run when the eruption occurred.
She made up her mind however, that if the devil never approved her request, she would be indefinitely absent from her job.
I just don’t want to be in the same building with this merciless killer! NOT any second longer!
She gulped as her lowered gaze spotted the pen being lifted—a surprising turn of events in her book. The devil picked and spun his pen.
“You sure?” He passed her a glance.
“Yes. Please.” She said it firmly.
He tore one end of the envelope and pulled out the folded annoyance on which the bolded word “RESIGNATION” was printed, glaring at his eyes.
His thumb brushed against the cap of his pen back and forth. At last he raised his hand slightly and dexterously signed the fancy curve that spelled liberation to the woman that was no longer his.
Lu Zhaoyang still could not believe she could see the day happening. She imagined the president giving all sorts of final requests before letting her go. She thought the president would grab her under the table and force her face his pillar or the old-fashioned meal-on-the-sofa scene. But none of those happened.
She nearly had the thought that the real Huo Yunting had been kidnapped, especially when he precisely folded the letter back into the envelope and pushed it towards her with two of his fingers.
Without hesitation, she instantly withdrew the envelope from him and left the room.
Inside the smoky room, he heard the door shut and the familiar sound of heels fading away. He took a deep breath with his cigar and exhaled his soul.
Lu Zhaoyang started packing up. She took her favorite teddy mug and the Barbie mouse pad Lin Yazhi gave, removed the pink stickers on her monitor, poured out the documents Huo Yunting used to decline. She did a CTRL+A and a mouse-drag. Everything important was transferred into her drive before she tossed it into her backpack. She was calm and surprisingly relaxed.
This is the end. I will no longer have a connection with Huo Yunting.
Never, ever again.
A new life awaits.
She had not decided her next move but she was certain that she should break this toxic loop.
“Wait a second?” Huo Li was strolling through the corridor and whistling. He stopped by there watching his brother’s woman packing up.
Okay, what on Earth had just happened?
My brother’s wife is—tidying up? Is it a little too late for spring-cleaning?
Wait, she’s leaving??
Does Brother Ting know this?
“BROTHER TING!” The door to the President’s Office was thrown open, “I just saw your girl packing up! Where does she think she’s going?”
Huo Yunting let off a column of smoke as he leaned against the back of his throne with his eyes closed, “She resigned.”
“Resigned? What? And you’ve approved it?” The plot twist was too overwhelming for the fanboy as his mouth remained as wide as his eyes.
“Uh huh,” responded Huo Yunting with his mouth shut.
“Did you sleep with a tyre pump last night or something?” The fanboy gasped.
“You’re the one being air-headed,” said Yunting, irritated, “How’s her progress?”
“I don’t know. She could leave anytime soon though.” Huo Li still failed to compute what happened before him, “Brother Ting, why do you even allow it to happen?”
The alpha turned his throne to face the boundless bright sky outside, “You’ll lose the kite if you pull on it too tight.”
Huo Li lifted his gaze and looked through the window.
Yeah, you’ll lose the kite if you pull on it too tight but Romeo, if you let go it’ll fly to somebody else’s house instead.
He rolled his eyes.
Well, she might have resigned from Thunderbolt Corp. She still hasn’t resigned as a WIFE from Brother Ting. Please, god, make sure he didn’t lose his mind if she ever passed him the divorce form.
Lu Zhaoyang took a last look at the tall and monstrous building behind her. She sighed in relief as the Uber she called promptly arrived. On her way back to their residence, she was checking out Airbnb along with other sites. In no time she spotted a nice little apartment with an affordable price. She messaged the owner and they had arranged for a meetup in the afternoon.
“Good morning,” greeted the maid, bowing to wish her a happy new year.
“Good morning and a happy new year to you too,” she smiled as she went straight to the bedroom.
