She could hear the wind in the phone, “Wait a minute, you’re at the balcony?!” She sprung out of her blanket. She confirmed her suspicion upon seeing the huge silhouette wandering outside the window panel.
Seriously, can you get anymore pretentious? You’ve never been this needy when we were at the city? I mean, have you not been sleeping alone for the past few months?
She started believing that it was a big mistake the moment she slept in this room.
“The princess’s here...” Huo Yunting proudly smiled and mumbled as he swung his phone when he saw his woman coming for him. Lu Zhaoyang hung up the call, gave him a serious glare and pulled the panel open as the bitter wind swarmed upon her. She shuddered, not sure it was because of the frigidity or the fear of what was coming after her. She ran to her bed as Huo Yunting shut the window, pulled the curtain and followed her promptly.
“Yikes!” Zhaoyang whimpered as she felt two strands of iceberg surrounding her waists, “How long have you been there? Why is your body so cold?”
“Right after you’ve returned to your room.” An obvious lie told by the man who actually came over a couple minutes ago. He would be frozen to death in a season like this, especially when it was merely 5 degrees Celsius that night.
“For real?” Astonished, the little naive Zhaoyang really believed the blatant lie.
“Yeah, feeling sorry for me now?” He whispered into her ears.
“Good night.” She wrapped herself up as both of them blended with each other in the blanket.
“I’ll sleep better with you.” And Huo Yunting closed his eyes.
Lu Zhaoyang thought she might not be able to sleep after the fiasco that night. But she was wrong. Soon she fell asleep and before she noticed, the morning sun had arrived. She immediately turned to the other side, only to see an empty bed. Huo Yunting had left perhaps. It was helpfully clever for him. “At least he has some conscience.” She muttered as she changed out of her pajamas and went downstairs.
Madam Xue was not around, surprisingly, considering how she always wanted to be part of Huo’s home. On the other hand, Mr. I-want-to-leave-tonight remained at the living room, playing chess with the old lady.
“Good morning, madam,” greeted Lu Zhaoyang.
The old lady instantly withdrew her laughter, snorted upon glimpsing at that precious thing too good for the young lady’s wrist. Huo Yunting could feel the fury coming from his granny as he stood up pointing at the dining table, “Go, have your breakfast.”
“Alright then. Please excuse me.” She got to be thankful to Huo Yunting for the escape path he created. She then scurried to the dining hall and had her breakfast.
When she finished her breakfast and returned to the living room, Huo Yunting was nowhere to be found, while the elderly was sitting there sipping her hot tea. Her breath sounded like a bomb ticking to Lu Zhaoyang’s ears as she tiptoed carefully behind her.
“Come here.” The old lady was more sensitive than Lu imagined.
Gosh...
Thought Zhaoyang as she closed her eyes and breathed deeply before walking to the old lady, accepting her fate.
“The weather’s fine today. It’ll be new year soon. We have a bunch of firecrackers at the storage. Go help out at the storage. I want you to dry them under the sun.”
?
When and how did Huo family manage to store bunches of firecrackers for the new year? Do they even have to stockpile them beforehand when they could simply call someone to send them right on the new year’s eve? And why do the firecrackers need to be dried in the sun?
Lu Zhaoyang knew the old lady did it on purpose.
“Yes, ma’am.”
Well, not like I have anything better to do...
There was nobody else when she arrived by the storage and Lu Zhaoyang nearly got into an avalanche when she entered the storeroom. It was a storeroom filled with all sorts of items coated in ancient dust.
Now, where in the capital could I find some firecrackers?
And that was how she spent the next hour, digging through furnitures, torn dolls and ropes. She even found Chen’s old uniforms when he was at a lower rank but there was no sight of firecrackers at all.
