Chapter 99: Even When Things Fall Apart, There’s a Strategy for Everything Part 2
「Ah, Sanraku-san! Back so soon?」
「Hi there, Emul. So? Any progress?」
「Edward-onii-chan said that he would like some time to think the matter through, so he asked us to wait until tomorrow! And I got a call from Break-onee-chan!」
「Right, so let’s get it over with. First, we’ll go to Break.」
I pick Emul up and throw him over my head. And since Emul was so familiar with sitting on my back so much, he corrected his posture in an instant and made himself comfortable. I was also getting really used to this feeling of having him on my back.
「Sanraku-san, for some reason you seem to be awfully fired up about something?」
「You can tell? I might have formed a guild with my buddies, but I still have my own individual goals to achieve, so I was going to make some preparation for them. One must always be prepared to be stabbed in the back by one’s allies.」
「I think you should really apologize to every friend out there who is getting along with his buddies.」
「Oh come on now. Besides, we are going to visit a different kind of friend of mine. You see, they are really shy, staying motionless for most of the time, only beginning to move when they want to kill you……」
「Could you really consider someone like that to be a friend?」
Now, now, the Crystal Scorpions and I are best friends! Besties! Anyways, just thinking about the visit we were about to make was enough to fill my chest with that strange kind of gentle warmth…… We were going to have a nice long talk, although most of the communication would be done via physical violence. Lots of violence.
「That’s not exactly what I would call a little preparation…… If anyone asked me, which I know no one is going to do.」
Arriving at Break’s place I entered with Emul still riding on my back.
「Ooh, so you’ve come, huh?」
「How’s it going?」
Break greets us while wearing some kind of strange goggles on her head, which looked like a very advanced piece of Sci-Fi tech to me.
「My job just entered its final stage. Soon, I will be able to give you a Legacy Weapon you deserve.」
「Sure thing.」
As a result of consultation with the other two, we decided that if we were to choose from the weapon or a mobile frame, for now we would choose a weapon. Because even if we were to share it, its value would still be better that way.
「You can do whatever it is you want with it. I’ll leave that to you.」
「Ooh, ooh…… Then maybe we could go to the Ancient Ruins tomorrow? We could see just how large this place is and maybe find something useful in there while we’re at it.」
「I’ll keep that in mind.」
It would be nice to be able to use things like robots, power armors and Sci-Fi weaponry.
I tilted my head and was about to leave the workshop, when,
「Now hol’ on just a minute, there’s something I need to talk to you about.」
「Hm?」
As I turned myself around I saw that Break removed her goggles and was now looking at me, so I turned towards her.
「I would also like to make a request…… Could you allow me to try and make a legacy weapon utilizing the crystal materials that you gathered?」
「Eh? I don’t really mind it all that much, but can something like that be done in the first place……?」
I always thought that “Grandmaster” was a profession solely focused on repairing broken items.
「Technically it can be built just like any other normal weapon, but that would include failing many times in the process. You could possibly waste a whole lot of materials……」
「Don’t mind, don’t mind, there’s nothing wrong with doing trial and error as much as you need to in order to achieve the desired result.」
「Much appreciated……! Incidentally, would it be possible to create double swords that way?」
To that question I received a negative response. The best thing that could be done for me right about now would be to reinforce the weapons I was already holding, or to make something completely different so that I have more diverse combat tactics.
「If you could make one……」
After that I visited a few more places to finish my preparations for making our grand operation successful…… And then we proceeded to go to the Valley of the Dead.
「Why are we going here again?」
「The Ancient Ruins are really tempting when it comes to EXP, but the mobs there are too much of a drag to deal with. So we’ll just have to make do with what we have here. It’s safer that way.」
Additionally, as a countermeasure for Humming Rich in this dungeon I’ve bought a bunch of Holy Water, brought a Dullahan Blade in here with me and bought a Tome of Magic for Emul so that he could learn a new spell or two.
「I’d estimate that the average level here is about…… eighty? Think we’ll be able to wipe all of the undead in here clean?」
「With the use of my new spells we shall rip them all a new one!」
Regrettably enough, most of the new spells that Emul learned were not the offensive ones but rather support ones.
