Chapter 254 - The Acrimonious in Her Eyes Flashed and Disappeared Very Quickly, But Yan Beicheng Caught on to It

“Only the both of us will always be with each other. You are the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. I’m sorry, I’m sorry to make you worry, it’s not that I don’t care about you.”

“I know,” Yan Beicheng repeated.

This time, Lin Chu saw Yan Beicheng’s expression clearly and knew that he was really not angry anymore. She was assured but still felt bad in her heart for losing her state of mind over a message and made him so worried.

She nursed her grievance by rubbing her face against his chest. It was fortunate that she did not put on any makeup, otherwise, she would have dirtied his clothes. For now, it was just wet from her tears.

Seeing how was acting like Chu Xi, Yan Beicheng found it both funny and annoying at the same time seeing how she was acting like Chu Xi. He tousled her hair and said, “You are taking after Chu Xi. People generally train dogs but when it comes to you, you learned from the dog.”

Lin Chu paused and thought of Chu Xi when it was gaining affection by acting in a cutesy manner. It had already grown up to be huge, but it was still a young pup and thought itself to be a little kid. Every time it created trouble, it would always show an “I’m still a baby” expression to her.

Lin Chu could not help laughing as she thought about it. She looked down at her huge belly, which hindered her and Yan Beicheng to hug each other comfortably. She wished for her son to come out faster.

Lin Chu said softly, “You looked scary when you were so fierce just now.”

After admitting her fault and was aware that she did wrong, Lin Chu started to nurse her grievance by sulking.

“I was very angry just now and couldn’t control my temper,” Yan Beicheng admitted. “But if I don’t do so, you would not understand how serious the matter was.”

Lin Chu pouted and stammered, “I did wrong, and I cannot ask you not to be angry at me. But can’t you categorize your level of angriness to me based on what level of wrong I did? You should...should bear with me. If it was really serious, then you can be really angry. Like how you were angry with me today...that should be minimized whenever possible.”

Yan Beicheng laughed despite being annoyed with her. She made a mistake yet still could negotiate with him.

However, his heart was tickled with how she looked when she negotiated. He wanted to smack her and pinch her, but he could not bear to do so and finally, clenched his teeth and pinched her slightly chubby cheek.

“I am not usually angry like this with you, and to-date, it was only this once. You don’t have to worry as I will only be like this when I’m very, very angry. In fact, I will tell you nicely, but I was afraid that you would not remember if I do that often,” Yan Beicheng explained as he pinched her cheek.

It left a mark on her cheek despite it being a gentle pinch.

Lin Chu could not stand it and mumbled, “You are treating me like a kid.”

“How old are you emotionally?” Yan Beicheng laughed. “When you tried to act cute, aren’t you behaving like a little kid?”

Lin Chu pouted, not expressing if she agreed with what he said or not.

Her back was starting to ache as she had been bending too long. Coupled with the fact that her stomach was heavy, it was starting to get very uncomfortable.

Lin Chu wriggled to let Yan Beicheng release her, and she sat back in her seat massaging and squeezing her back waist.

“Is your back aching?” Yan Beicheng asked.

He was angry at her just now, and despite it was for her good he still made her cried and he was feeling guilty. Seeing what Lin Chu was doing now, he felt that it was his time to perform again.

Lin Chu was trying to be good as she made Yan Beicheng angry just now. Hearing his question, she nodded her head obediently and said, “I was in the same position just now, so it aches a little.”

Yan Beicheng immediately grabbed the opportunity and reached out to massage Lin Chu’s waist.

As her stomach was getting bigger, her backaches were getting more frequent and Yan Beicheng had always helped to massage her back. He even read up on the techniques and was very experienced.

His strength was just nice, and Lin Chu’s backache was relieved in no time.

Lin Chu also felt apologetic and quickly said that she felt better to stop Yan Beicheng.

Just then, a traffic police on a motorcycle stopped by the roadside. He held a pen and started to issue traffic tickets to the cars along the road.

Lin Chu urged, “Let’s leave quickly.”

Yan Beicheng nodded. He did not want to create trouble, seeing that Lin Chu was all right he started to drive and leave.

...

The car stopped in front of the orphanage. Yan Beicheng was about to get out of the car when Lin Chu switched on the light in the car.

“What’s the matter?” Yan Beicheng turned to look at her.

Lin Chu replied in embarrassment, “I cried just now, so I wanted to see how I look otherwise people might misunderstand.”

She opened the visor mirror and went near it to look at her eyes.

It was not obvious as she did not cry too hard just now.

Seeing how she looked at herself in the mirror, Yan Beicheng assured, “All of their attention is on Mo Jinxi now, and they might not look at you in detail. Even if they do notice and ask you, just say that you were happy for Mo Jinxi and cried.”

Lin Chu thought that it made sense, but she felt something was not quite right with Yan Beicheng’s reasoning and glared at him.

Yan Beicheng released her seatbelt and laughed saying, “It’s all my fault, I made you cried. If they do ask just say that I bullied you.”

Lin Chu could not bring herself to say that, as she was the one who did wrong in the first place.

Since Yan Beicheng said so, Lin Chu stopped glaring at him and said to him with a red face, “I don’t think they will notice it.”

The Principal was old with dim eyesight, Teacher Wang and Teacher Yuan were not as close as she was to the Principal and would be shy to ask. The Mo Family would not ask too.

They got out of the car and saw Teacher Yuan waiting for them in the courtyard looking through the metal fence.

She saw their car stopped but was finding it odd that nobody alighted from the car.

She finally saw them getting out of the car and coming over, and quickly opened the gate and said, “It happened so suddenly so we quickly called you to come over. We are all waiting for you both.”

“How is Jinxi?” Lin Chu asked.

“He’s shocked, but the other kids are fine. Jinxi is such a blessed boy, we are all very happy for him,” Teacher Yuan replied with a smile.

When they entered the living room, they noted that the other children were not there. There were only the old Principal, Teacher Wang and Jinxi sitting on the couch; a middle-aged couple and Mo Jingsheng sat on the opposite side.

Mo Jinxi was hugging the old Principal’s arm tightly. He did not look calm, his curious eyes looking at the middle-aged couple.

Lin Chu presumed that the middle-aged couple to be Mo Jingsheng’s parents.

The legendary Police Chief Mo looked to be older than on the television. Lin Chu could not help thinking that nowadays photoshop seemed to be the norm when a leader goes live on television or take a photograph.

It was just like how one would see him in the television news, Police Chief Mo’s hair was dyed black, and combed at a 7-to-3 parting with hair gel. His hair was so impeccably styled that not a single strand of hair fell.

He wore a fitting and well-ironed suit and did not unbutton his jacket even when sitting down. He sat so upright as if he was being photographed.

Madam Mo, who was sitting by his side, wore a casual and loose cream-colored wool blouse, black cropped pants and high heel shoes. Her hair was styled in a bun. A cashmere coat was draped on the side of the couch.

Police Chief Mo brought his wife out to official functions sometimes. However, she did not appear in the public often so if nobody were to mention, Lin Chu might not recognize her.

Now that she recognized her, she felt that her poise was more approachable in person. She looked decorous on television, as she had to always look her best in front of the camera. Even though she portrayed a good image, but it seemed to be a chore to the general public.

Madam Mo still looked decorous in person, but she seemed to be livelier; her makeup was not as exquisite and perfect as it looked on screen and was much more natural and fresh looking.

Liang Xiulin was staring at Mo Jinxi intently, her eyes not blinking one bit as if she was afraid that Mo Jinxi would disappear if she were to blink.

Her expression was gentle, and by the looks of it, she seemed like she could not wait to give everything to Mo Jinxi.

Even Police Chief Mo who was always dressed in his military uniform and always looked so stern had on a kindly expression. It might be he was so used to being serious even to his wife that when he tried to show a kindly expression, he looked stiffened like a carved rock.

Mo Jinxi looked at them with a nervous and curious expression. His black eyes looked as if he was a lion cub which got separated from its mother, confused yet defensive when meeting a human being. Liang Xiulin felt her heart ached.

Mo Jingsheng was the first to notice Yan Beicheng and Lin Chu’s arrival and stood up to greet them.

He was still wearing his police uniform, looking righteous in it.

Yan Beicheng brought Lin Chu to the front and greeted, “Uncle, Aunty.”

Lin Chu followed suit.

Police Chief Mo and Liang Xiulin stood up to greet them. Police Chief Mo nodded at them, his stern face showing a tinge of laugh line.

Liang Xiulin was much more enthusiastic as she greeted, “This is the first time I’m meeting Lin Chu. We came here in a hurry today and did not bring any gift.”

Yan Beicheng and Lin Chu’s wedding ceremony have not held their wedding ceremony yet, hence a lot of people had heard of Lin Chu but had not met her yet.

“It’s alright, this should be prepared by us juniors,” Lin Chu replied with a smile.

Hearing her humble words and seeing that she did not flatter or fawn over them despite knowing their identity and treating them with respect just like any other elders, Liang Xiulin’s impression of Lin Chu was better.

She had heard of Lin Chu growing up in this orphanage. Even though her status was not on par with Yan Beicheng, her bearing matched up with Yan Beicheng.

She thought of how when they came over just now. The orphanage was not aware of them coming over to visit, and all the children were there. Even though the children were curious, they were still polite and were not noisy and greeted them ‘grandfather’ and ‘grandmother’.

When Teacher Yuan and Teacher Wang asked the children to go to bed, the older children would lead the younger ones to brush their teeth and change into their pajamas on their own before going to bed in an orderly manner.

Mo Jinxi was also very polite. When they received the paternity test report and saw the results, she had heard of Mo Jingsheng speaking about Mo Jinxi on the way here.

Mo Jingsheng and Mo Jinxi were not close to each other too. He explained what happened yesterday in detail to Police Chief Mo and Liang Xiulin.

Coupled with what she had heard about Lin Chu, Liang Xiulin felt that her grandchild was a good boy overall.

After the formality greetings, all of them sat down. Yan Beicheng was attentive to let Lin Chu sat beside Mo Jinxi.

Mo Jinxi immediately raised his head to look at Lin Chu. She smiled at him and fondled his head to assure him.

“Our visit was very abrupt and sudden as we could not wait any longer. We asked you to join us as a witness,” Liang Xiulin explained.

Lin Chu’s expression turned serious. The old Principal picked up the report on the coffee table and passed it to Lin Chu.

As the matter was already mentioned through the phone, Lin Chu only glanced at the report and passed it to Yan Beicheng.

“We want to bring Jinxi back. He is our grandchild. We have been looking for him since his disappearance. Thank you for taking care of him and nurturing him these years,” Liang Xiulin said. She looked at Mo Jinxi and said, “Jinxi, I’m your grandmother.”

Mo Jinxi, however, looked at Mo Jingsheng and asked, “When you spoke of your brother’s matter yesterday, you were referring to my parents?”

Mo Jingsheng nodded and replied, “It was because I was very sure that you are their child, hence I spoke about it.”

Because of what happened to Lin Chu before, the old Principal could not trust people with status anymore and hence called for Lin Chu and Yan Beicheng to come.

She had heard from them that Yan Beicheng knew them.

That said, Mo Jinxi was still a part child of the Mo Family. There was no reason to let the child continue staying in the orphanage if he had a family.

“Jinxi, can you call me Grandmother?” Liang Xiulin looked at Mo Jinxi, her eyes were wet with tears.

Police Chief Mo suddenly coughed by the side. Liang Xiulin added, “And call Grandfather.”

Mo Jinxi looked at Liang Xiulin, then at Police Chief Mo. He had felt a sense of familiarity and closeness with Mo Jingsheng yesterday and was willing to be close to him.

Looking at Police Chief Mo and Liang Xiulin, he did not feel distant from them.

His mouth moved and said, “Grandfather, Grandmother.”

He was used to greeting as such to the surrounding elderly neighbors.

However, the real meaning of grandfather and grandmother was very different than what he had always said. Now that he said it, it felt strange yet warm and he could feel a lump in his throat.

Mo Jinxi twitched his mouth. He was delighted to finally have his own family, but at the same time, he also felt uneasy, not knowing how his future would be due to this sudden change.

Mo Jinxi hugged the old Principal’s arm tightly, and said, “But...but I cannot bear to leave here. The old Principal is here, and I have lots of brothers and sisters.”

When Lin Chu wanted to adopt him, he was worried about Shi Tou and Tian Tian but he was not afraid as he knew that he could still come back often and visit even when he was with Lin Chu.

Now that he has a family, would they still allow him to return and visit the old Principal and his friends?

“Silly boy, you can still come to visit. Grandmother is very grateful to the old Principal for taking care of you and teaching you well. If you don’t come, we will also visit and to see how we can help the orphanage,” Liang Xiulin said.

Mo Jinxi looked at the old Principal. She fondled his head and looked at Yan Beicheng.

Yan Beicheng nodded and said, “Jingsheng and I are good friends, don’t worry.”

He was assuring her that the Mo Family would treat Mo Jinxi well.

The old Principal finally nodded and said, “We will follow the right procedures then, after we register the household account for Jinxi, then...”

The old Principal felt a lump in her throat. She felt sad knowing that Mo Jinxi would be leaving soon.

After all, she had taken care of the child for seven years. This was akin to her giving her little grandchild to somebody.

Even though Liang Xiulin said she would bring Mo Jinxi back to visit often, the old Principal felt otherwise.

Liang Xiulin might have said it sincerely, but when the old Principal looked at Liang Xiulin’s eyes, she could feel that she was very particular with family status. She might help the orphanage, but it would be done condescendingly unlike the Yan Family who treated them sincerely as equals.

She was afraid that Liang Xiulin would not let Mo Jinxi come visit anymore.

“Then can he follow us back to stay for a night? Just for one day first?” Liang Xiulin asked. She was conspiring to say as such for the time being. When Mo Jinxi went back with them, they would dictate when he could come back.

Even if they were to drag until the procedure has been completed, the old Principal could not do anything also.

The old Principal sighed. She was happy for Mo Jinxi to have a family who was concerned for him. The child would need to leave and it made no difference if it happened sooner or later.

“Jinxi, what do you think?” The old Principal asked Mo Jinxi.

Liang Xiulin was opening her mouth to say something when Police Chief Mo nudged her on the side to stop her.

Liang Xiulin had wanted to say that they could decide on such matters, why must they ask for Mo Jinxi’s opinion? What would a child know?

She felt that the old Principal did not want to let Mo Jinxi return to his family and was not happy in her heart.

Mo Jinxi was hesitant to reply. Suddenly two children ran in fast like bullets and stopped by Mo Jinxi’s side. It was Tian Tian and Shi Tou.

“Brother Jinxi, are you leaving?” Tian Tian hugged Mo Jinxi’s arm and asked with tears in her eyes.

“I...” Mo Jinxi could not say anything.

Shi Tou was stout and shorter than Mo Jinxi. He was chubbier than Mo Jinxi but was as stout and thick like a rock.

“Brother Jinxi, it’s so hard for us to say goodbye,” Shi Tou said with his eyes red.

He was older than Tian Tian and understood more.

He had always acted strong and tough and did not like to cry in front of others, but now he was sobbing with tears streaming down his face.

“Are you leaving today and not coming back anymore? The younger brothers and sisters still don’t know, they have all gone to bed and didn’t know that you would be leaving,” Shi Tou said. He could not bear it anymore, his nose was blocked and he was sobbing in a trembling voice.

Mo Jinxi said, “I...it’s very difficult for me to say goodbye to you all too.”

Liang Xiulin’s expression stiffened a bit. She glanced at Shi Tou and Tian Tian and did not express anything, but Lin Chu knew that she was unhappy.

She sighed in her heart, she could understand Liang Xiulin’s feelings.

She had been searching for her grandchild for seven years, and when she finally found him, it made sense for her to want to immediately bring him home to take care of him. Lin Chu could understand the pressing feeling.

However, Lin Chu felt a bit unpleasant at heart with it.

Tian Tian turned around to beg Liang Xiulin, “Grandmother, can you let Brother Jinxi stay for a few more days? We would not be able to see him every day like now after that. I beg you, please.”

Liang Xiulin was not happy from the bottom of her heart. How could little children comment when the adults were speaking?

The acrimonious in her eyes flashed and disappeared very quickly, but Yan Beicheng caught on to it.

“Jinxi, what do you think?” The old Principal asked.
