Chapter 112
“Dad!” Lin Yuwen stood up in agitation, momentarily forgetting about her tummy. Her little bump scraped the side of the table slightly. It did not seem too serious.
However, Lin Yuwen immediately covered her tummy protectively while pointing her fingers at Lin Chu’s nose. “Are you allowing her to show off in front of us? Isn’t this matter clear? She was the one behind all of these. She wanted us to lower our heads to her and apologize. Wasn’t she the mastermind behind Ziming’s news today?”
Lin Zhenghe pressed his lip and glared fiercely. No one was sure if the glare was for Lin Chu or was it for Lin Yuwen.
Cheng Ziming quickly held on to Lin Yuwen’s arms, “Yuwen, let’s leave. Last night was my fault for allowing someone to get something against me.”
Lin Yuwen shook Cheng Ziming’s hand away and pointed at Lin Chu, “I’m not leaving, stop pulling me! This has all been a trap set by Lin Chu for us! How could it be a coincidence that the room had a camera that recorded everything we said? Ziming went looking for you last night to ask for your help. If you were willing to stand up for us and say that everything was nothing but a rumor, no one would have said anything and it will be the end of the situation. We won’t be embarrassed by this. But you insisted on exposing Ziming, who went looking for you, and now you’re acting all high and mighty, like you are unwilling to be on the same side as us. Aren’t you disgusting?!”
“We may not have treated you as part of the Lin family. I may not have treated you like a sister. But this is all within reason. You were an outsider, to begin with. Other than that, our family did bring you up and supported you through school. You should at least be grateful for that! Would it be that difficult for you to stand up and clarify that this was all a misunderstanding?”
Lin Zhenghe did not say anything and did not push Cheng Ziming to take Yuwen away. He wanted to know Lin Chu’s attitude towards all these.
It was true. If Lin Chu was willing to do this, it would solve all their problems.
Lin Chu glanced at Lin Yuwen’s tummy lightly and replied coldly. “That would be difficult. Number one, I did not do this, and if you don’t believe it, there’s nothing much I can do. Number two, the expose about Ziming was the truth. Why would I make myself feel bad and tell lies? I will pay you back in the future for all the money you spent on me. I will never take revenge for all the torture I’ve suffered before. We do not owe each other anything.”
Lin Chu placed the speech opposite her. “What I’ve said just now was considered personal matters. Now let’s talk business. I hope President Lin and Miss Lin will be able to look past the relationship between us and discuss this as working partners. It would be very unprofessional to be emotional about this and take it personally.”
Lin Zhenghe gave Lin Chu a death stare, which made Lin Chu felt like she was being watched by a poisonous snake. It made her very uncomfortable.
“Take her outside,” Lin Zhenghe said to Cheng Ziming with a grim face.
With much effort, Cheng Ziming finally got Lin Yuwen out of there, which made work become much easier. Lin Zhenghe did not say anything more. All he did was get his secretary to mark down the important points he needed to pay attention to tomorrow.
...
Lin Yuwen got pulled back into her office by Cheng Ziming. She was not about to give in easily and vented her anger on Cheng Ziming instead.
Lin Yuwen thrashed the pen holder, files and even the keyboard on the table. Everything was thrown to the floor.
She was so consumed with anger that her hair made her look like a crazy lady and she was breathing wildly.
“Yuwen, calm down. You are pregnant. This would affect our child’s health,” Cheng Ziming tried to calm her down. He frowned at Lin Yuwen’s crazy act. His patience was about to come to a stop.
Lin Yuwen picked a blue folder and threw it at Cheng Ziming’s head. Cheng Ziming moved to the side but not in time. The hard backbone of the folder hit him on the corner of his forehead. It did not bleed but it scratched out a red line on his forehead. Cheng Ziming frowned in pain.
Lin Yuwen was not happy with the impatient look on Cheng Ziming’s face, “What expression are you showing me right now?! Ever since I was pregnant, all you and your mum ever talk about is the baby. When have any of you ever been concerned about me? In your eyes, all I am is the pregnancy. What about me? It’s so annoying to hear all of you nag daily!”
Cheng Ziming tried to control his temper, “That’s because we are concerned about you. Lower down your voice, the employees outside can hear you.”
“Oh, now you think I’m embarrassing! You have everything you’ve ever wanted since you married me, so there’s no point in coaxing me anymore, right?!” Lin Yuwen pointed at Cheng Ziming’s nose. She looked behind and found the table empty. There was nothing left to throw except for a monitor.
“Yuwen, that’s enough!” Cheng Ziming could not take it anymore and said in a low voice.
Lin Yuwen gave a wave of her hand furiously, “It’s enough? Why don’t you just say that you are incapable? You couldn’t find Lin Chu last night and ended up in big trouble. If it wasn’t for you, would we have rushed to Lin Yi to solve this? We’ve just rejected them yesterday and ended up getting back today, how embarrassing is that?! Now you’re blaming me?”
Cheng Ziming could not take it anymore and raised his voice without caring if the employees outside heard him, “Lin Yuwen! How can you not know how I feel about you? Now you’re placing all the blame on me? Are you asking me to take full responsibility for everything? This was caused by you and yet you wanted me to beg Lin Chu for help. I ended up being humiliated by them. Why don’t you spare a thought for me? I’m really angry about all this and yet you don’t understand how I feel and think that I am useless.”
“When did I just care about the baby? When you got pregnant and wanted to stay at your home, I accompanied you there. You said that no one was celebrating the Lunar New Year with your parents and that they were all alone, that Lin Chu had no filial piety and would never go home. So I accompanied you home to spend the Lunar New Year with them, leaving my own parents alone at home. What did I tell my parents? Nothing. I understood you, indulge in you and still, you are talking about us this way? Who could be as lucky as you, to be able to have a considerate mother-in-law who never chastises you?”
“Isn’t this chastising me? You’ve been complaining behind my back, haven’t you? All you have always been unhappy with me, am I right? That’s why you can’t help but say these words now! This is the way I am! Ever since your family knew that we were together and were getting married, they should already be aware. There is far too much difference between our families. You would, of course, keep close to my family. Your parents may look understanding on the surface but they complain to you behind my back, what does that mean? Haven’t you thought about this before? Aren’t your parents happy that you’ve married a wealthy young lady who could bring you a bright future? You want a good wife, a bright future and for the wife to obey your parent’s every whim. How could they have everything? If you regret this, go back to Lin Chu!” Lin Yuwen said furiously.
“So that’s what you’ve always thought about me. You’ve always looked down on me,” Cheng Ziming’s face turned green. There was disappointment in his eyes, it looked sad.
Lin Yuwen was taken aback and could only watch as Cheng Ziming ran out of the room in disappointment.
Lin Yuwen got even angrier. She wished she could flip that table. She thought that everything happened because of Lin Chu. If it was not for Lin Chu, there would not be so much trouble.
She breathed heavily. No one knew what she was thinking. She later ran out in a furious huff.
The employees who were listening in on the argument in the office quickly lowered their heads to pretend to be busy.
Lin Yuwen took the elevator to the basement carpark. As she was wearing flats due to her pregnancy, she was able to walk very quickly.
There were still five or six meters away when she took out her car keys. The car lights brightened twice and there was the sound of the car opening.
Lin Yuwen sat in the car, not knowing where she should go. All she knew was that, she did not want to be in the same place as Lin Chu.
Suddenly, she saw Lu Lixin walked out with Lin Chu and Zheng Yuntong toward Lu Lixin’s car.
Lin Yuwen’s eyes narrowed. Her anger had evolved into a great hatred. She could only see fire in her eyes as she started her car’s engine madly, stepping viciously on the accelerator.
The car honked wildly as it went straight towards Lin Chu. The honk echoed loudly as the sound bounced off the basement walls, sounding like a roar from the bloody mouth of a terrible monster.
As she was pregnant for more than four months, her tummy was already bulging. The compartment of a sports car was never comfortable, to begin with, so she hand changed it to a normal sedan, a BMW 7 Series.
Lin Chu and the others heard a fierce honking coming from behind and felt something was wrong with it. They turned back to look and saw the BMW coming towards them crazily, like it had lost control.
They watched as the car came towards them. Not only did it not turn to another direction, but it also turned towards where Lin Chu was, like it wanted to knock Lin Chu down.
The three of them were not walking in a line, they had some distance between them with Lin Chu at the furthest outside.
Lu Lixin and Zheng Yuntong went white in the face with fear. They immediately ran over to pull Lin Chu back. They were so nervous that their knees went weak.
They heard a bang, Lin Chu’s wrists hit the side mirror at the side of the car.
The car was speeding so fast that this hit had hurt Lin Chu very badly. It was so painful that she was crying.
Lu Lixin and Zheng Yuntong pulled Lin Chu back from both sides. They pulled her in so quickly that they lost their balance and all three of them fell onto the hard cement floor.
Lin Yuwen’s eyes were red with craziness, she was not able to slow down in time and had focused all her attention on Lin Chu that she did not notice she was on the opposite side of the lane. She was about to crash into the car right in front of her. It was honking continuously at her.
At that moment, the distance between both cars was very near, she was at maximum speed and it was too late to brake her car.
Lin Yuwen did not think much. She stepped hard on her brakes multiple times while turning the steering wheel in order to avoid the car coming towards here. However, the car’s inertia could not be stopped, even her attempts to turn the steering wheel were useless.
There was a thick cement pillar right in front of her, if she did not manage to make a turn, her car would crash into it.
Lin Yuwen kept turning the steering wheel, but it could not do anything for the car inertia. The tires screeched sharply on the floor as it crashed on the side swinging back and forth.
In the end, the door of the backseat hit the cement pillar hard. The forceful impact from the crash created a huge dent there, which hit Lin Yuwen on the side. The car mirror was completely smashed and rained on Lin Yuwen’s head like hail.
The car shook violently. All Lin Yuwen felt was the powerful tremor from the car. It felt like it could have made her bones fall apart. The side of her body hurt badly.
Her body was flung to the side of the door because of the inertia and her head hit the cement pillar from the window. Then, she was flung to the other side, onto the passenger seat.
Lin Yuwen could feel something hard hit against the side of her tummy, a sharp pain could be felt moving up from her tummy. Her hands and feet went cold and there was a terrible pain in her head.
She could feel the pain in her tummy getting worse, she did not care for the pain in her hands and shakily covered her tummy with them, crying weakly, “It’s really painful... Help... Help!”
Lin Chu and the others could not hear her. Lin Yuwen’s voice was too weak and small and could not travel their way.
Besides, the car crash had put all three into great shock, they still have not recovered from it.
Lu Lixin was the first to get himself together and stood up. He said to Lin Chu and Zheng Yuntong, “How are both of you doing?”
Lin Chu shook her head. Zheng Yuntong said, “I’m a little painful from the fall. Otherwise, everything is fine.”
She forced herself up and rubbed her painful butt.
The two of them helped Lin Chu up. When Lu Lixin touched Lin Chu’s wrist, it hurt Lin Chu so much that she called out in pain.
Lu Lixin and Zheng Yuntong looked at it. Lin Chu’s wrist was terribly swollen.
Lu Lixin finally remembered that crazy car after pulling Lin Chu up. The car that Lin Yuwen had nearly crashed into was also parked nearby. The driver had got out of the car to find out what happened.
He ran over this way while mumbling, “Who was the one driving? Was that person crazy? It’s guaranteed to have an accident at that speed.”
Lu Lixin and the car owner reached the crashed car almost the same time. The passengers’ seat window was too darkly tinted. They could not see anything, so they had to move to the other side.
The glass on the window of this side was gone. When they looked into it, they saw Lin Yuwen lying across the driver’s seat and the passenger’s seat. Her hand was covering her tummy as she cried while calling out for help. Her voice was small and could not really be heard.
The car window had been smashed to bits and was all over Lin Yuwen. She looked particularly disheveled and it was hard to help her out.
Lin Yuwen had obviously targeted Lin Chu. She only wanted to do bad to her, even to the point of killing Lin Chu with her car.
Or maybe, she did not really want to kill Lin Chu. She could have only wanted to teach her a lesson by hurting her. No one really knew what was she thinking. The only thing she did not think of was what would result from her actions.
Not only did she not manage to knock Lin Chu down, but she had also implicated herself in an accident.
Even though Lin Yuwen had bad intentions, Lu Lixin was not about to leave her in the lurch and called 120.
He hung up and the car owner next to him grabbed Lu Lixin on the arms, “You saw the whole thing. This is not my responsibility. She was speeding in opposite directions and crashed her car by trying to avoid me.”
“Don’t worry. We saw everything. Besides, there’s also a security camera. You don’t need to worry,” Lu Lixin nodded at him to comfort him and pointed upwards.
The car driver breathed a sigh of relief, “Then I guess I should get going?”
Lu Lixin stopped him, “Don’t. This is a car accident. This lady had attempted a hit and run. We don’t know if she was aiming to kill or hurt. We still need to make a police report. I’m guessing you would need to record your statement too.”
Zheng Yuntong and Lin Chu walked over. The car owner looked upset. It looked like he could not leave.
Lu Lixin called the police.
The ambulance and the police arrived at the same time. The paramedics rushed over and carefully got Lin Yuwen out of the car and into the ambulance.
Zheng Yuntong told them Lin Chu had been hit by the car, so they let Lin Chu up the ambulance as well.
Zheng Yuntong, Lu Lixin and the car owner stayed back to answer the police’s questioning.
Lin Yuwen was crying miserably in the ambulance.
Lin Chu watched as Lin Yuwen’s lower body bled profusely, dying the white cloth on her stretcher red.
“It hurts! It really hurts!” Lin Yunwen covered her tummy as she cried profusely.
She refused to open her eyes and kept them close. No one was sure if it was because of the pain or she could not face the truth. Her tears flowed freely.
Actually, Lin Yuwen could feel the condition of her body. She felt the blood flowing continuously out of her, her tummy slowly emptying bit by bit.
Lin Chu did not like Lin Yuwen, but she did not hate her either.
Whatever Lin Yuwen had done, Lin Chu had already got her taste of revenge. She had not kept those wrongdoings to heart and torture herself over them. Besides, she had never thought of Lin Yuwen as an enemy.
This was someone who was not essential to her life, what hatred could be found there?
She was never jealous of Lin Yuwen. Naturally, she harbored no hate for her.
This was why it had never crossed her mind to do Lin Yuwen any harm, much less cursed the baby in her tummy.
The baby was innocent. It was a life. It had already taken shape after more than four months in her tummy. No matter how mean Lin Yuwen was, there was no need to curse the little life in her tummy to death.
She did not expect for Lin Yuwen to take the matter so lightly and killed her child by her own hands.
Lin Chu looked at her, hateful yet full of pity.
“Help, help me!” Lin Yuwen cried.
The paramedic at her side could only console her. It was obvious that the baby was gone.
At the hospital, Lin Yuwen was brought out of the ambulance. She suddenly opened her eyes and looked at Lin Chu, she lifted her head to shout crazily, “Lin Chu, this was because of you! This was all because of you! If anything happens to my child, it’s your fault!”
Lin Chu frowned. She really wanted to tell Lin Yuwen that she had a mental problem. She was blamed for every single thing.
Lin Chu was brought to the Orthopaedics Department and take an X-ray. While the nurse was helping her with the bandage, Shao Huai called her.
“Miss Lin, I’m at your company’s entrance. I’ve just asked your colleagues, they told me that everyone had got off work. Why didn’t I see you?” Shao Huai asked. There was some panic in his voice, he was worried that something had happened to her.
Lin Chu’s bandage was almost done. She could leave soon after dealing with the paperwork. It won’t take much time, so she told Shao Huai the hospital’s address, “I’m at the hospital. Don’t worry about it, it’s nothing serious. It’s just...”
Before Lin Chu could finish, the clinic’s room was opened and a policeman came in, “Are you Miss Lin? There are a few questions I need to go over with you over this car accident.”
Lin Chu remembered that she was still on the phone, “Okay, let me finish my call first.”
The policeman nodded, so Lin Chu continued, “Shao Huai, I...”
She had just said three words when she realized that there was no longer any sound coming from the other end.
Lin Chu looked curiously at the screen and realized that Shao Huai had already hung up.
...
Yan Beicheng was on the way to Sheng Yue. Shao Huai was sent to pick up Lin Chu, so Zuo Qiu was his driver today.
He saw Shao Huai’s call come in. Yan Beicheng wondered what had happened with Lin Chu and picked up the phone, “What’s going on?”
“Master Yan, Miss Lin was in an accident and is now in the hospital. I was at her office just now...” Shao Huai did not have time to tell the whole story, he decided to provide the highlights of the matter and tell the full story later.
“Which hospital?” Yan Beicheng went deadly pale at the news of Lin Chu being in a car accident. There was cold sweat all over him.
He was not aware that his voice was trembling and his hands and feet had turned cold.
Shao Huai told him the name of the hospital and noticed something wrong with Yan Beicheng’s tone. He did not want him to worry and said, “Miss Lin said...”
Yan Beicheng could not continue listening anymore and hung up. He told Zuo Qiu the name of the hospital and instructed, “Head to the hospital and give the client a call. Push back the schedule. I’ll give you more details once I see Lin Chu. I will personally make an apology later.”
