Chapter 12: Mysterious Man

Qiu Tong did not take his threat to heart. After successfully chasing him out, the family of four was tired and hungry.

Looking at the time, it was probably too late to cook.

Qiu Tong narrowed her eyes and smiled. “Let’s go. I’m in a good mood today. I’ll bring you guys to eat something good!”

The place they lived in was too remote. It would take them a long time to reach the downtown area.

Fortunately, Qiu Tong was not in a hurry. The four of them leisurely walked along the road.

The three children had always been focused on survival. They never stopped to take a good look at the scenery around them. Nevertheless, they were also at an age where they were full of curiosity. Along the way, they were extremely curious about all kinds of things.

As they passed a remote street, they suddenly heard the chaotic sounds of gunshot.

Two groups of people were fighting on the streets. One side was clearly on the losing end. Unable to hold on any longer, they fired two shots at the pursuing enemy, before hurriedly fleeing away.

The other side immediately gave chase. Qiu Tong shielded the three children and hid to the side in case they were accidentally injured. The three children hid behind her obediently, revealing only six pairs of eyes as they stared nervously and fearfully at the chaotic street.

Seeing that they were very anxious, Qiu Tong comforted them. “It’s alright. I’ll protect you.”

Qiu Xingyuan shot her a quick glance, as if he did not believe her.

Although Qiu Tong had changed recently, Qiu Xingyuan still did not dare to let down his guard. He did not forget that Qiu Tong was still the greatest danger.

When all the chaos finally dispelled, Qiu Tong slowly walked out with her children.

The originally orderly street had become very messy. There was no one on the road, but only a car knocked to the side. There seemed to be a figure in the back seat.

Qiu Tong frowned and decided to circle around the car and leave.

She had three children with her and could not risk meddling in other people’s business. However, when she caught a glimpse of the man’s face in the backseat, Qiu Tong immediately changed her mind.

The man’s facial features were unusually deep-set. He had straight eyebrows and well-defined features. His thick eyelashes cast a shadow on his face. Even though he was unconscious, he still looked cold and aloof.

Qiu Tong stared blankly at his face, a sense of familiarity lingering in her heart.

But she had never seen this man in her memories.

With a glint in her eyes, Qiu Tong asked the three children to hide in a nearby alley. She then moved a nearby bamboo basket and some clothes over to cover them, before saying hurriedly, “Hide here. Don’t move.”

She turned back to the place where the gunfight had taken place, only to find that the group of people who had left earlier had returned. They seemed to be planning to take the man away.

Qiu Tong’s eyes turned cold as she charged over and kicked one of the men away.

With swift and fierce movements cultivated during her post-apocalyptic days, her body was agile and her attacks clean and direct. Every strike was aimed directly at the vital points. In just a short period of time, none of the group, which comprised over a dozen men, were left standing.

“Hey, wake up!”

Qiu Tong patted the man’s face and he opened his eyes, staring at her coldly.

Qiu Tong’s body stiffened, and that sense of familiarity welled up in her heart again.

However, the man lost consciousness again.

Only then did Qiu Tong notice the gunshot wound on his chest. Her eyes flickered as she leaned forward and a faint white light gradually appeared on her palm.

The hideous wound started to heal and Qiu Tong did not notice the flutter of the man’s eyelashes. Still in a blur, his eyes opened just a slit.

Jin Yang didn’t expect the other group to be so bold as to set up a trap and start a gunfight in broad daylight.

He tried his best, but there were too many opponents. In the chaos, he was shot in the chest.

As much endurance as Jin Yang had, he had lost consciousness from the intense pain.

Amidst the haze, someone seemed to be calling out to him.

Jin Yang forced his eyes open, only to meet a pair of limpid eyes.

He wanted to see more clearly, but his consciousness was once again dragged back into the thick black fog.

Vaguely, he could smell a crisp, clear fragrance, which was not too thick. The pain in his chest seemed to have eased a lot.

He kept drifting in and out of consciousness. Jin Yang wanted to open his eyes, but he could only vaguely see a blurry figure, as well as hear her soft and gentle voice.

There also seemed to be three chattering children.

His chest was getting warmer and Jin Yang could subtly feel that his injuries were getting better.

By the time he regained full consciousness, he had been transported to the hospital by his team. The fatal wound on his chest had also recovered.

He could not help touching his chest with his long fingers, as if he still remembered the pain of being shot.

Jin Yang’s eyes darkened. Was he dreaming when he saw that woman?
