Expeditionary Talisman (Special): Congratulations on becoming an Expeditionary soldier. Damage done to Burning Legion units is increased by 1% (Upgradable), and you will gain healing and buffs from NPC teammates. Effective for 2 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds.
Lu Li only had three days, so he rushed to battle without delay.
He did not expect to be able to fight with the NPCs and had originally thought that he would be slowly levelling off to the side.
The Fel Soldiers’ levels ranged from 60 to 70. They didn’t have very high defense, but they had very high attack. This made their group charge even more formidable. Fortunately, the NPCs had various occupations that could resist them.
The real headache was the combination of Wrath Masters and Infernal Siegebreakers that were summoned by the Pit Commander.
The Infernal Siegebreaker’s defense was almost unbreakable and he was covered in green flames that caused tremendous damage to units close to him. With Lu Li’s fragile body, he simply did not dare to approach that monster.
The Wrath Master’s strongest skill was a Fear, which made its target run around aimlessly. Lu Li saw an Orc infantryman affected by this Fear, which caused him run to into some Fel Soldiers. His teammates couldn’t rescue him in time and he was soon cut down.
Lu Li had to opportunistically pick out his targets. All the monsters that had been attacked by other NPCs and had reached low HP were the ones Lu Li attacked. Lu Li managed to kill the first Fel Soldier with just two normal attacks and quickly developed a taste for stealing the monster kills.
The EXP he received was quite worthwhile. Lu Li actually only received a small portion of the full EXP as he only killed the monster at the very end.
The Expeditionary Talisman was slowly improving. As Lu Li slowly farmed the first wave of monsters, the damage bonus on the talisman increased to 1.37%, which provided a noticeable difference in his attacks. Lu Li felt like this was a valuable item and didn’t really want to have to return it.
The Burning Legion were coming from quite a few different portals, so they would usually take some time to consolidate their troops before launching an attack.
In this wave, the Pit Commander was the boss. Unfortunately, Lu Li didn’t manage to get the last hit as he couldn’t deal enough damage, so he didn’t receive any drops from it. However, he did manage to collect some drops from the other monsters and the Wrath Masters.
Unfortunately, this equipment was usually just level 60 Gold or Steel grade. Since Lu Li was now at level 60, it simply wasn’t worth picking up.
The attributes of these items were mediocre in comparison to what he currently had, and their special effects were far worse. Moreover, if a level 65 player was wearing level 60 equipment, the attributes would be reduced by at least 50%.
In other words, a level 65 Gold equip with average attributes was generally better than a level 60 Epic equip.
For example, if a level 60 Epic equipment added 200 points, but was reduced by 50%, then it would only add 100 points. There was a similar effect for the special effects. This meant that if a player received higher level equipment, they wouldn’t bother with the lower levelled ones.
Lu Li organized the equipment that he did pick up and handed them over the Quartermaster Drake.
Drake gave Lu Li some EXP and Reputation, but not much more than that. The Expeditionary Army’s supplies just weren’t enough. They had to make do with a lack of food rations and staying warm enough. They had to rely on their own healing abilities or a healer. Only serious injuries could warrant the use of a potion or bandages.
However, the EXP and Reputation amounts were quite high, and Lu Li felt that if he stayed here for 3 days, he would definitely level up.
Lu Li also went to the place where the wounded were resting, and received a quest from an Orgrimmar Shaman. He also gained quite a bit of EXP and Reputation from that.
The second wave of monsters soon arrived and the soldiers of the Expeditionary Army had almost no time to repair their equipment.
They dragged their tired bodies into battle once again. Occasionally, a warrior would fall, but there was no way to revive them. It was no wonder that the forces were diminishing every day and the time that each team needed to set up defences was increasing.
Lu Li’s attacks dealt some damage, but he was only one person and could only play a limited role.
After a few waves, Lu Li’s Expeditionary Talisman damage buff increased to over 2%.
“Boss, we are about to come over. Is there anything we should keep an eye out for?” Drifting Rain asked.
Drifting Rain was a special member of Ruling Sword. He was part of Ruling Sword’s Night Watchmen Corps, which was famous throughout the game. With Lu Li’s support, they had formed a Mercenary Group under the name of the Night Watchmen. There were about 700 to 800 players within the group.
The condition for joining the group was both simple and difficult – they had to join the Night Watchmen camp.
“That was quick, but you guys should be able to open a portal,” Lu Li said, then suddenly blurted out, “We? You aren’t coming alone?”
“We have over 800 people, and we’re all coming. Boss, quickly tell us what we need to bring. We don’t have much time!” Drifting Rain said urgently.
“800!”
Surely that was excessive; Lu Li was dumbfounded.
Originally, he felt quite impressive for being the first person to venture into the Outland, but this was insignificant in comparison to the number of people the Night Watchmen were bringing.
However, he also knew that the timing was tight and they really were in a hurry. As such, he quickly found the Quartermaster and came up with a list of all the things that were needed – potions, food, clothing and anything else.
The items that these 800 players brought might not solve all the problems of this Expeditionary Army, but they would bring some temporary relief.
Upon hearing that there were 800 adventurers coming over, Lieutenant General Orion almost burst into tears.
Soon, there was a battalion of Paladins charging out of the Dark Portal in the face of the imposing Burning Legion.
The charge was quite the sight, and it actually gave Lu Li a fright.
“Pay attention to the big guy; don’t go close to him. Also, don’t go near the spawning portals, or you’ll be dead before you even start,” Lu Li reminded them quickly. The Fel Reavers had been specifically tasked with protecting the portals. If Drifting Rain and the others impulsively decided to attack them, then it would be all over for them.
“Boss, you can relax. That big guy doesn’t look that easy to fight anyway,” Drifting Rain responded.
He had used their hot-bloodedness to charge in, but it didn’t mean that they were going straight into battle. This was the reason why Lu Li felt like he could leave him in charge. Even though Her Tears was Ruling Sword’s number one Paladin, he wasn’t suitable to lead the Night Watchmen because he lacked this quality.
