Chapter 660: Voodoo Set
Lu Li’s death caused a bit of a havoc, but no one was too concerned about it.
Dawn really focused on keeping a balance between all players, so anyone had the chance to die. The only players who hadn’t died yet were either newbies in the beginner’s village or trade skill players.
Plant seeds weren’t easy to find, and most players weren’t interested in them at the current stage.
There was still a long time until guild basements would be built anyway. Without another one or two years of progress, Dawn wouldn’t develop to that stage yet.
Lu Li took back his equipment and items and carefully placed the World Tree seed in his personal storage. This wasn’t something he could bring around with him; it would be sad if he died and lost it.
He then proceeded to the mailbox to collect some items.
The Voodoo Set that March Rain had made for him had finally been completed.
He now had the Voodoo Chestplate, Voodoo Shoulderplate, Voodoo Mask and Voodoo Cape. The Voodoo Chestplate came from a chest, while the others were all from the Zul’farrk dungeon.
For a dungeon with a moderate difficulty, Zul’farrk’s items were truly quite good.
The Voodoo Set was a very popular equipment for Thieves at their current stage. Even though it was a Silver set, the four items combined were better than most average Gold grade equips.
Among Lu Li’s four items, the Chestplate was Fine grade, with the Shoulderplates and Cape both being Superior. It couldn’t be helped – there was no guarantee that every equipment could be made with the best attributes.
The Voodoo Mask was an exquisite item that was only a step away from Perfect grade.
This was the first time March Rain had crafted an exquisite item, which demonstrated how useful the Cryptic Tome of Tailoring was. Square Root 3 had already assigned a few trustworthy players to complete the quest in an attempt to loot more copies. Tailoring was one of the mainstream trade skills; there were an abundance of players who had learned Tailoring in the guild.
Voodoo Shoulderplate (Fine Gold): Armor 35, Agility +28, Strength +14, Fire Resistance +10%. Special Effect 1: Parry, perform an extra movement. Special Effect 2: Backhand Backstab damage increased by 20%. Equipment level requirement 40, Durability 82/82.
Under the last line of the equipment description, there was a row of text that said, "Voodoo Set, from the Ancient Trolls."
The Attributes were good, while the fire resistance would be useful against some Fire Mages and Warlock skills. It was even more useful in PVE situations, as many monsters and Bosses liked to use fire-type spells.
The first special effect was called Parry. There wasn’t a lot of text to explain it, as it was only a simple bonus action.
As someone who had reincarnated, Lu Li knew about this special effect.
In Dawn, the outcome of a physical attack would be one of the following – Hit, Miss, Dodged, Blocked, Critical Strike and Parry. There were a few other results, but these were the major ones.
A Parry occurred when a player reduced the damage they took by making certain actions (movements) when an attack lands.
In simple terms, it just meant that an attack had landed on the wrong spot and was therefore unable to deal its maximum damage. The amount of damage reduced could vary – on the lower end, it could only be 3-5 points, while on the higher end, more than a hundred points of damage could be blocked.
In other words, this effect wasn’t particularly effective on single attacks. However, if damage was reduced on every single hit, it would definitely add up over time.
Lu Li’s original Shoulderpads were a level 15 Silver grade, but they were an exquisite item. If it wasn’t for the fact that their level was too low, Lu Li would not even want to change them.
Slayer’s Shoulderpads (Silver): Defence 18, Agility +10, Strength +6. Effect 1: Attack Speed +10%. Effect 2: Backhand Backstab Skill +1. Equipment Requirement level 15, Durability 42/42.
This item added another skill level to Backhand Backstab.
It was rare to find an equip that increased a skill level. An equip that increased the skill level of an Ultimate skill was even rarer.
Backhand Backstab skill +1 or Backhand Backstab damage +20% - which one was better?
Lu Li couldn’t really decide either. An additional skill level wouldn’t allow it to deal as much damage as an extra 20%, but increasing a skill’s level affected more than just its damage. It also affected the other special effects that came with the skill.
With a high completion level, Backhand Backstab also paralyzed the opponent.
The paralysis time of a level six Backhand Backstab was guaranteed to be better than a level five Backhand Backstab. The damage increase wasn’t as high as 20% though – it was only around 7%.
For the effect of the set and the overall improvement of his strength, Lu Li had to replace his shoulder piece. Even though his current Shoulderpads were only level 15, there would still be plenty of players willing to borrow or exchange for it with their tokens if he placed it in the storage.
Voodoo Cape (Fine Gold): Armor 45, Agility +30, Strength +16, Movement Speed +6%. Special Effect 1: Stealth effect increased by 18%. Special Effect 2: Shadow Dash. Rush towards target with a 40% movement speed buff, lasts for 3 seconds. The first attack skill on the target is increased by 30%, cooldown 2 minutes. Level Requirement 40, Durability 115/115.
There wasn’t much to say about this item. It was similar to Lu Li’s previous equip and provided a movement speed buff with an extra Stealth effect. The last line of the second effect was a pleasant surprise for Lu Li.
This Shadow Dash was a skill for chasing; it only gave the player a speed buff after a target had been selected.
Of course, if someone else was chasing you, this effect wouldn’t be useful.
Voodoo Chestplate (Superior Gold): Armor 50, Agility +28, Constitution +15, Critical Strike +12%. Special Effect 1: Certain chance to transform 20% of damage taken into health. Special Effect 2: Strengthened Skin. Damage taken reduced by half, lasts for 6 seconds. Cooldown 2 hours. Level Requirement 40, Durability 120/120.
It was quite common for chest equips to come with a damage reduction effect – the two effects on Lu Li’s chest gear were both related to damage reduction. The first one transformed damage taken into health, while the second was a very powerful damage reduction skill. The six-second duration was an important reason why this Chestplate was classed as Superior grade. Its Attributes weren’t that high and it didn’t provide a lot of Critical Strike either.
Others might have been happy that it came with such a strong damage reduction effect, but Lu Li was different – he wanted more damage.
Only the second special effect was useful; the first wasn’t meaningful to him. Lu Li already had enough Vampirism to sustain himself when he fought monsters. As long as he wasn’t caught in a mob, he wouldn’t lose too much health. If he ran into a Boss, then this small amount of transformed-health wouldn’t really save him either.
Fortunately, there was still a Voodoo Mask. This helmet came with a powerful damage effect, which perfectly complimented Lu Li’s playstyle.
