Chapter 1156 - A Clear Conscience
Chapter 1156: A Clear Conscience
Gu Qingcheng knew that Fu Huai’an would agree to his request. Fu Huai’an would agree to whatever requests Cen Mo had… just to help Gu Qingcheng out of that abyss.
Gu Qingcheng wanted to refuse for the sake of their original intentions in setting up that huge organization back then!
But the moment Gu Qingcheng thought about Yun Liuli’s naive yet brilliant smile, he found that he couldn’t bring himself to open his mouth…
Cen Mo was going to stay over for dinner later that night. After they came to an agreement, he left the study to allow Fu Huai’an, Gu Qingcheng, and Tang Zheng to discuss things among themselves.
After Cen Mo left, Gu Qingcheng looked at Fu Huai’an, who was calmly pouring water into his cup, and said, “Old Fu…”
“I know what you’re going to say!” Fu Huai’an put down the teapot in his hand and looked up. “Back then, we decided that we wouldn’t involve ourselves in drugs, prostitution, or human trafficking, but this doesn’t prove that we’re good people! In reality, our goal in the beginning… was just to get what we wanted! I’ve never labeled myself as a good person, and I don’t only have to do the things that good people do. It doesn’t matter so long as I have a clear conscience.”
A clear conscience…
Right now, Fu Huai’an just wanted to get Gu Qingcheng out of there, and so, he was working towards that.
…
Downstairs, Lin Nuan had already prepared lunch. The sprightly Little Candy ran to the study and asked Fu Huai’an, Gu Qingcheng, and Tang Zheng to go downstairs to eat.
At the dining room table, Tang Zheng originally wanted to call Lu Jinnan and ask him about his injuries since he was worried about him. But after hearing from You Nainai that it could be a chance for Bai Xiaonian and Lu Jinnan to make up, he dropped the idea, as he didn’t want to disturb them.
Gu Qingcheng didn’t stay for lunch and took Yun Liuli home. He had something on his mind.
The ride home was silent, as Gu Qingcheng and Yun Liuli both had things on their minds.
They reached the Cloud Top Condominium, and when Gu Qingcheng stepped out of the elevator, he unbuttoned his suit jacket. Before he got the chance to take it off, he was hugged by the young lady from behind.
“Slow down, and be careful with your arm!” Gu Qingcheng frowned and gently pulled away the young lady’s arms, which were wrapped around his waist.
“You’re going to step down from that position, right?” Yun Liuli asked. “Because of me?”
Before Gu Qingcheng could think of how to bring this matter up to Yun Liuli, the young lady asked in a hushed tone, “Has Fu Huai’an found someone to replace you? After you step down… can that person guarantee your safety? Will he suddenly collude with someone and backstab you? You’ve offended many people over the years…”
“Liuli, I’m going to get away by faking my death!” Gu Qingcheng turned around and looked down at the young lady in his arms whose eyes were red. “It’s the most efficient way and has the least future troubles. But… I’ll have to take on a different identity, and I may not even be able to step into a large city. Are you willing to leave with me?”
When Yun Liuli heard Gu Qingcheng’s question, she nodded without giving it a second thought.
However, after she nodded her head, she thought about it again and asked, “Will it be dangerous to fake your death?”
“This will involve a lot of planning. It definitely has its risks, but they aren’t huge…” Gu Qingcheng reached out to rub Yun Liuli’s head. “And it won’t happen overnight. There’s a lot of things to arrange. Since you want to go back to school, you’ll go back to school starting from tomorrow. As for me… after I’ve settled down, I’ll have to go overseas for a while to prepare things, and after that… I may have to disappear for a while! You’ll have to take good care of yourself then!”
Yun Liuli’s heart quickly leaped to her throat the moment Gu Qingcheng said that he might have to disappear for a while.
“But you haven’t heard my answer yet!” Yun Liuli anxiously hugged Gu Qingcheng’s narrow waist. “Why are you so anxious to go overseas?”
Did Gu Qingcheng still need to hear Yun Liuli’s answer?
Wasn’t Gu Qingcheng preparing for his future with Yun Liuli right now?
Gu Qingcheng knew very well what that answer was…
Gu Qingcheng knew what Yun Liuli asked Lin Nuan about!
Since he knew that the young lady had made up her mind, it was only right for him to do something to respond to that determination.
Seeing that the young lady was still frowning, Gu Qingcheng couldn’t help but rub the area between her eyebrows. “You have to study hard! You never know, you might need to provide for Uncle Qingcheng in the future!”
It was clearly a joke, but Yun Liuli took it seriously and hugged Gu Qingcheng even tighter. “I can provide for you!”
This was the most determined Gu Qingcheng had ever seen the young lady act. He reached out to rub her head and chuckled. “I’m a very difficult person to provide for. I’m very picky about the things I use!”
“I can do it!” replied the young lady in a stubborn and firm tone.
Yun Liuli’s heart ached after expressing how she felt. She looked up at Gu Qingcheng and began to choke up. “Then… will you disappear for a long time?”
Gu Qingcheng didn’t reply. Instead, he tucked the young lady’s short hair behind her ear and said softly, “Maybe I’ll come back when your hair reaches your waist!”
The young lady’s nose began to sting, and tears rolled down her cheeks.
“I should have known not to cut my hair!” replied Yun Liuli. She then couldn’t help but bury her head in Gu Qingcheng’s chest and cry.
“Yun Liuli, I want to be together with you… for the rest of my life!” This was the first time Gu Qingcheng had said something so affectionate. He gently hugged her and continued from the top of her head, “I want to lead a peaceful life with you and… have a child that’s as beautiful as you. So there are some things that I have to do!”
It wasn’t right for his dark and dangerous life to mix with Yun Liuli’s life.
Gu Qingcheng was already like this. He wanted to give the girl he loved a warm and peaceful life.
Hearing Gu Qingcheng’s words, Yun Liuli broke down and buried her head in Gu Qingcheng’s arms as she cried hysterically.
Yun Liuli cried for so long that she got hungry. She sniffed and said in a very nasal voice, “I’m hungry…”
Just as Gu Qingcheng was about to say something, Yun Liuli choked up and cried again. “I want to eat your plain noodles! In the future… I won’t get to eat them… for a very… very long time!”
As she said this, Yun Liuli began to cry her eyes out again.
Yun Liuli was an emotionally reserved child, and she rarely broke down crying like this. Gu Qingcheng’s heart ached upon seeing her like this.
“Okay! Okay…” Gu Qingcheng gently rubbed Yun Liuli’s back. “It’s not like I’m leaving now!”
Yun Liuli looked up at him with tears rolling down her cheeks. “But… but, after you leave, I’ll only get to see you again when my hair is long!”
Yun Liuli hugged Gu Qingcheng and wailed. She was even crying while eating noodles.
Yun Liuli calmed down slightly after she finished eating the noodles. She sniffed and looked up at Gu Qingcheng. “Does it count if… I wear a wig that has waist-length hair?”
Gu Qingcheng was speechless.
Yun Liuli knew she had said something stupid and looked down.
