The distance to the rooftop was short. It didn’t take a long time for the two of them to reach the room. Looking at the night view, Shiro smiled lightly. He always liked the night, filled with stars yet the surroundings were completely dark. It was the best time for him and his friends to make their move because no one would be able to watch them.
No, to be exact, it was hard to find them when they were surrounded in the darkness.
"Would you like to set up your gun?" Shieli asked.
"Yes. You can stand at the back."
"Ok."
Watching Shiro setting up his gun, Shieli was silent. The storage room had a flat room above. It was a perfect spot for Shiro because he could set his gun on top of the thick railings made of cement that Kevin had built there. It would also provide protection for his body in case they realized that he was sitting here.
Shiro placed the stands then placed his gun with the tip on the railings. He positioned himself with the back side of the gun on his shoulder and his other hand held the trigger, ready to shoot whenever it was necessary.
At this time, Shieli didn’t dare to move.
Shiro touched his ear and spoke, "Shin is ready in position."
"Oro is ready in position."
’Oro?’
Shiro furrowed his brows when he thought of his friends. From what he knew, Jason was too busy with his business to be able to care about this matter. However, he tried not to think too much and stayed still in his position while observing the situation.
Kevin was also in his position. He was welcoming the people he wanted to have discussion with.
"Rei is in position."
Shiro used his lenses to figure out Kanae’s position. It didn’t take long for him to see her location not far from the building. She was not staying with Kevin because this would be a negotiation that he did alone. Her role was to protect them from any potential danger.
Mike stood near the door while Kevin began his discussion with the businessmen.
Time passed like a turtle.
It was so slow that the minutes felt like hours and the hours felt like decades. They were all staying focused in their place without attracting any attention in the slightest bit.
"Neo, eight O’clock direction. Some people are coming closer."
When Kanae’s voice appeared in their communication line, Neo quickly shifted his attention to the group of men. They didn’t look any different than any ordinary people, but he knew that Kanae was the closest to them. She might have noticed something wrong.
’Four men with ordinary civilian clothing,’ Neo thought to himself.
Just as they were getting closer to the door, the first men suddenly took out a gun followed by his friends.
"Neo!"
Bang!
The bullet came out of the barrel and hit the first man directly before he could shoot his gun to the guards there. By this time, Kanae had arrived and her light sword swung directly to the group of men.
Her silhouette couldn’t be seen as she finished them off in a matter of seconds. The group of men fell on the ground within seconds.
"Mike."
"Roger."
Kanae scanned the crowd and gave her next order, "Shin, 2 O’clock. There are people approaching."
Shiro had just moved his line of sight when he noticed that the men were taking out their guns aiming at Kanae. The first group of men must be the decoys to bring Kanae out of her position.
He frowned and immediately shot his gun.
Bang!
The bullet flew and hit the first man who had just taken out his gun. They must have not been prepared for two snipers in different positions because they were only standing behind buildings that would cover them from Neo but not Shiro.
Shiro’s eyes narrowed when he saw the men react fast. He shifted his position and shot another one of his bullets.
Bang!
"Shieli!"
Shieli swiftly stepped forward and wheeled Shiro to the back with full force. She had to make sure that he would not be wounded in the slightest bit. The distance that they picked was not that far from the location of the meeting, so Shiro couldn’t stay here for a long time.
They would be able to find him out and be prepared to receive him.
Worse, they might even fire bullets to his direction if he was not careful enough.
Shiro couldn’t move by himself, so it was Shieli’s task to wheel him back efficiently and pull the gun back. They still needed to use this position for future work, so he couldn’t be found out.
"Thanks," Shiro murmured and waited. He could faintly hear the sound of gun shooting for a while then everything went silent. "Rei, situation?"
"All clear."
The cold tone that Kanae used implied that there must be a lot of people who were trying to sabotage this meeting. However, they had to make sure that nothing went wrong with their arrangement.
At this time, a low voice sounded in their communication device. "Shin, Neo, you can return. The meeting is over."
"Good."
Shiro sighed in relief. When the order was given by Kevin, it meant that the situation was truly clear and there was nothing that they needed to worry about. Because of that, he could relax a bit.
"How long until my legs can recover, Shieli?"
"It’ll still take a few more months at the earliest," Shieli replied. She looked at his legs with a frown. "Also, you’re not allowed to strain yourself."
"I won’t."
"Good."
"With you watching over me like a hawk, how can I push myself too hard?" Shiro asked back with a smile.
Shieli arched her eyebrows. She smiled lightly. "I’ll not always stay by your side, Shiro."
"I know, but for the next few months, you will be."
Shieli giggled. "Alright. Time to return back."
"Ah wait, I need to clean up my equipment."
"I’ll wait."
"Thank you."
Shiro wheeled to his equipment and began to put it back in place. He glanced out from the railings and smiled a bit at the sight of Kanae and Kevin walking side by side.
One day, he would be able to walk again.
And he wouldn’t be alone anymore.
