Chapter 69 - Protecting Mom

Chapter 69 - Protecting Mom

"Mr.Lu?"

Xiu Mei attempted to raise her hand to wave it in front of Lu Chen’s face but miserably failed. She puzzledly looked at Lu Chen who seemed to be dozing off, while watching her face which was actually quite uncomfortable on her part.

Somehow, she grew conscious of his stare and worriedly thought whether there was something on her face or what. Her anxiety grew when a thought hit her.

Okay, along with her head injury, did she also hurt her face?

Oh my gawd! Not the face. Please not the face. Won’t all the skincare she did before will all go to waste if her face got injured? And wounds take a long time to heal! Ugh!

"Mr.Lu?" She called out to him once again but never got any response.

She tilted her head a little bit towards the hand of Lu Chen to get his attention and luckily, he did wake up from his reverie.

"Are you alright?" Her brows furrowed in concern. It’s not really like Lu Chen to be so out of it.

"Nothing, just thinking about something."

Lu Chen responded as he realized that he shouldn’t be showing anything that might worry Xiu Mei right now. She should focus solely on recovering, and just leave all her problems to him to solve it.

"Mmm, work?"

"Sort of."

Xiu Mei observed the changes in Lu Chen’s expression as if she was trying to figure out his true thoughts. A few seconds later, she hesitantly nodded like she believed him. She didn’t.

Even though Xiu Mei clearly knew that Lu Chen wasn’t being honest to her at all, she didn’t push him at all for answers.

The hospital wasn’t exactly the best place to ask about something so crucial, especially that Lu Qiang was in the room. Kidnapping, not exactly a good bedtime story for kids.

"Dad, stop touching Mom."

Lu Qiang, who was watching the two on the sidelines, finally reminded them of his presence. The two turned their heads towards the little kid that was now glaring like a cub to his Dad. Seeing that cute expression of his, Xiu Mei and Lu Qiang chuckled while Lu Chen moved his hand away from Xiu Mei’s head.

"Take a rest first, Mom. So we can play together again." Lu Qiang expressed his thoughts, as he did his best to pull his mom’s blanket up to her shoulders.

Xiu Mei gently smiled at Lu Qiang, letting him do what he wanted. She gave Lu Chen a knowing look before Lu Chen finally nodded.

"Lu Qiang."

Lu Chen’s indifferent look returned on his face as he called his son’s name.

Little Qiang looked up in response to his Dad waiting for what his Dad was going to say.

"It’s late. You have to go home."

"NO!"

Lu Qiang quickly became agitated as he retorted to his Dad’s statements. He grabbed onto the Xiu Mei’s blankets instead of Xiu Mei’s as he was scared that he would hurt her Mom accidentally if he wasn’t careful.

Hearing his Dad telling him to go home, he immediately went against it.

Why did he have to go home? He didn’t wanna go back when her Mom’s still in the hospital!

He quickly shook his head, showing his opposition to his Dad.

He will stay here where Mom is.

He’ll take care of her until she’s up and fine.

Dad didn’t do a good job protecting Mom so he’s the one who’s going to protect Mom from now on.

If Lu Chen was able to hear Lu Qiang’s thoughts, he would’ve surely smacked down the little kid’s head for his ridiculous thoughts. He would surely think that his wife is being snatched away by his son.

But that’s an another story for the future.

"Lu Qiang." Lu Chen sternly spoke Lu Qiang’s name as he frowned at the sudden disobedience of Lu Qiang.

"I don’t want to." The little kid held his ground as he fiercely glared back at his Dad.

Lu Chen deeply inhaled, as he held back the growing frustration in him. He patiently convinced his son to go home so that he could take ample rest but the little kid was actually talking back to him!

The father-son duo continued to argue while Xiu Mei was still lying in between the two of them. She awkwardly stayed silent throughout the whole ordeal as she really didn’t know if she should side with Lu Chen since she understood why he was telling Lu Qiang to go home.

Or should she side with Little Qiang who seemed so pitiful like he was being bullied by his father?

Xiu Mei was still contemplating which one should she side with when the door of her room opened. She saw her Dad entering the room, when he heard him speak.

"It’s fine. He can stay here."
