Chapter 150: Surprise in the Middle of Preparation
Soldiers moved everywhere, sharpening weapons and making final adjustments to their gear. The air was thick with the scent of metal and sweat, mingling with the cool desert breeze.
Rain was deep in thought, organizing the final details of their strategy, when a sudden commotion erupted from the direction of the food rations.
The sounds of shouting and the clatter of metal drew his attention, pulling him away from his preparations. He moved quickly, pushing through the crowd of soldiers, his heart pounding of what might be happening.
As he reached the source of the disturbance, Rain\'s eyes widened in disbelief.
There, in the midst of the chaos, stood #4, Pup, and Hana, looking more than a little out of place. They had somehow managed to sneak into the camp inside the food rations and were now surrounded by soldiers, their faces horrified and embarrassed.
"This is not what you think. There\'s a good explanation on why we\'re inside the food storage. Quiet funny actually." Hana was trying to explain their presence, her voice earnest and filled with concern. "Please, listen! We just wanted to help. I can heal the soldiers and provide support.
They\'re exhausted, and I—"
Before she could finish, Pup glared at the soldiers surrounding them and growled fiercely. He wasn\'t going to sit around in the village doing nothing while everyone else was out here fighting. He\'s got his own strength to contribute!
Rain couldn\'t help but feel a rush of frustration mixed with relief. He had been so focused on their imminent battle that he hadn\'t considered that his friends might try to follow him.
He had explicitly instructed them not to join the mission, warning them that it was far too dangerous for non-combat troops. Yet here they were, having snuck into his ranks despite the risks. As much as he wanted to be angry, he couldn\'t entirely fault them for their willingness to help.
Seeing them here, especially in the midst of such an important and dangerous time, was both a surprise and a source of concern.
#4 stood quietly beside them, his expression unreadable. His usual silence spoke volumes; he was clearly unperturbed by the situation, even as the soldiers\' murmurs grew louder.
Rain stepped forward, addressing his friends with a mixture of exasperation and concern. "What in the world are you three doing here? How did you even manage to get past the guards?"
Hana looked up at him with a pleading expression. "Rain, don\'t get mad at them! It\'s my idea. We knew you\'d be in danger, and we couldn\'t just stay behind. I can offer my healing abilities to the soldiers, and Pup—"
\'—Pup decided he wasn\'t going to laze around while you were out risking your life,\' #4 chirp. "We wanted to be here, to fight and help however we can."
Rain\'s gaze shifted to #4 and Pup. It was clear that #4 was resolute in his decision to be there, his quiet defiance speaking for itself.
Rain ran a hand through his hair, trying to keep his composure. "And you brought my statue with you? You know how important that is, right? It\'s not just a piece of decoration — it\'s a connection of my soul. It\'s not supposed to be here."
#4 lowered his eyes. \'I feel like it wouldn\'t be safe back in the village with me here. I want to help and guard the statue at the same time!\' Chapter Explore:
Rain could only sigh. With a fierce and determined face like that how could he turn them away now?
Hana\'s tried to make a plea. "I\'m sorry, Rain. We didn\'t mean to cause any trouble. We just wanted to be useful, to support you in any way we could."
Pup stepped forward, his expression earnest. \'We understand the risks. We\'ve seen what\'s coming, and we want to be a part of it. If there\'s anything we can do, we\'ll do it.\'
Rain took a deep breath, trying to manage his frustration. He knew that their intentions were good, and that they were driven by a desire to help. But the timing and the manner of their arrival added a layer of complexity to an already fraught situation.
"Alright," Rain said finally, his tone softening. "I appreciate your determination and your willingness to help. But you need to understand that this is a dangerous situation. The battlefield isn\'t a place for everyone, and you have to be prepared for what\'s ahead."
Hana nodded, her expression resolute. "We are prepared. I can support the soldiers with my healing, and Pup can help with—"
\'—Pup will help with whatever\'s needed," Pup finished, his bark firm. \'We\'re not just here to stand around.\'
Rain fixed his gaze on #4, who had remained silent amidst the commotion. "You know how important that statue is," Rain said, his tone firm. "I need you to hide it somewhere safe, where no one would ever think to look. If that statue is broken, it could be the end of me — my soul tied to its very essence. Do you understand?"
#4 nodded with conviction, his eyes sharp with understanding.
Rain wasn\'t one to easily mistrust those around him, but when it came to something this critical, it was better to be cautious than to regret it later.
"Alright," Rain repeated, giving a resigned nod. "You can stay and assist where needed. But you need to stay out of direct combat. Focus on supporting the soldiers and keeping yourself safe."
Hana, #4, and Pup exchanged a look their happiness radiating.
The soldiers, who had been watching the exchange with a mixture of curiosity and wariness, began to relax as Rain\'s decision became clear. The tension eased, and the focus shifted back to the preparations for battle.
