Chapter 151: Rejection

Chapter 151: Rejection

A better suitor? She had never thought about the possibility of this matter before. After all, Chaoyan was once divorced, so as far as she knew, no one would want to make a proposal to her. If not for Jiashu who was willing to marry her, Mrs. Lin personally was not happy to accept her into the family.

When hearing that there was a better candidate, Mrs. Lin was still not convinced.

Who could beat Jiashu?

“Impossible.” Mrs Lin denied directly. “Who can be better than my son?”

“The son of the officer of the Ministry of Revenue! Of course he is better than your son. Don’t you ever forget that you are just a business family, and there is a huge gap between the son of the officer of the Ministry of Revenue. I suggest you not fantasize about the possibility any more,” Madame Gu said with a smile. She was very pleased with the arranged marriage.

Mrs. Lin’s face changed. She turned to this divorced girl with an unexpected look on the face. So the officer of the Ministry of Revenue was here making a marriage proposal with this woman?

If that was the case she had to give it up, but if the marriage did not work, she still needed her to help Jiashu. “Chaoyan, if that is the case, we can drop the marriage matter. But please help Jiashu with his job.”

Madame Gu turned a sharp look at Gu Chaoyan.

Madame Gu was very unwilling to let the Lin Family get something profitable out of the Gu Mansion.

Gu Chaoyan shook her head. “I can’t, sorry.”

Madame Gu let out a sigh of relief.

“Why?! Chaoyan, I am willing to marry you!” Lin Jiashu snapped anxiously, fearing that she turned him down because of some misunderstanding.

Gu Chaoyan rolled her eyes.

It seemed that Lin Jiashu had been sick physically and mentally for years. She was not helping them... Not because of what Madame Gu was thinking, but because she was not going to bother Zhou Huaijin with such a trivial matter. Zhou Huaijin was the Lord Huai, but he could not possibly be out there for everyone and everything.

“If you want to get a job, go for the imperial examinations. If you are able to pass the examination, there will be jobs for you.” Gu Chaoyan said calmly.

The words had just been spoken when she shot a long look at the Old Master.

The Old Master lowered his head out of guilt. He also felt that asking Chaoyan for help was not proper, but Mrs. Lin had talked him into doing so with some potential benefits. Plus, Jiashu was their son and he expected the best out of him. That was why he eventually decided to join them.

Now that Chaoyan was not willing to help, Old Master was not cheeky enough to keep asking Gu Chaoyan about it. So he stepped forward and said, “Just forget about it, Jiashu, Chaoyan is right. If you want a job, take the imperial examinations.”

Mrs. Lin was still unconvinced. “But, Chaoyan, it is not a hard thing for you!”

“Shut up!” The Old Master bellowed at Mrs. Lin.

Lin Jiashu stepped forward. “Mom, stop it, I will take the imperial examination. I am sure I can make it.”

Lin Jiashu sneaked a look at Gu Chaoyan.

If he passed the examination, and Chaoyan’s marriage with the officer of the Ministry of Revenue did not work out, he could come to her and make another proposal. By that time, she would approve of him.

The Lin Family left in a hurry.

Gu Chaoyan let out a sigh and was about to leave.

Seeing the scene, Madame Gu reminded her. “Chaoyan, are you heading for the stores again? You have never run any business before, so you have to take it slowly. Don’t cause trouble.”

“I am not going to the stores.”

“Then where are you going?” Madame Gu looked confused. Madame Gu truly had no idea where else she could go.
